Sweet story
Movi3DO29 June 2021
Ok my friends, the title of this show is a doozy.

Another series this Spring season that dealt with the controversial age gap topic. The title itself is a synopsis of the show.

While Koikimo: It's Too Sick to Call This Love took a romcom approach, Higehiro took a more serious and dramatic one.

Our main girl, Sayu, ran away from home and as the show progressed, we learned more about her troubled past. It was very depressing and traumatic, and I couldn't blame her for escaping from her home. I'll probably do the same thing if that happened to me.

Our main guy, Yoshida, was probably the most ideal gentleman. Given that our runaway high school student was very cute, our man overcame all the testosterone stimulation and temptation, and instead became more of a father figure. Many would say that his character was too idealistic, and I agreed, even though I think there might be people getting close to him.

The relationship between these two main characters were very sweet. They were both lonely and sad people, and they made each other happier. Also, towards the end, Sayu grew and moved on from her trauma. It was heartbreaking and satisfying to see the ending.

Since the show dealt with a controversial issue, it was inevitable that there would be controversy. However, for me, I actually had a problem with the action from the brother character, who was introduced later in the show. That's my only problem with the show.

Overall, a sweet and heartbreaking show that got me invested. Also a very fitting ending. 8/10.

Nice anime, but could be focused on an adult audience
thomasmorus8 April 2022
This anime has a nice message, though you might be put off by the first episodes, it's nice at the end. It's a simple story about caring, honesty and valor, really simple, but still nice to watch. A man takes in a teenager to live with him and then life lessons are taught.

What I think is a let down and I really hope anime story writers could fix this, is that there are few good slice of life animes about adult life, this one still isn't fully in the adult spectrum. I wish it could at least have taken an approach closer to Usagi Drop and Barakamon, which are similar. Animes have the "fan service" thing and I really wish they could cut the hentai crap out. There's definitely a market for animes which are heartwarming and focused on adult themes, with very little supply.

Debatable
Nonomemes7 January 2022
So let's start from the easy part, the certification:

Unfortunately I did not find any significant flooring (e.g. R/X/Etc.), this is definitively not suitable for minors. Although for adult can be educative (please note I use this term instead of "instructive", as many adults still needs plenty of education), for teenagers it is not fine, 1st because of "what is shown", 2nd because it could lead some to emulation.

So now the difficult part, this is a slippery ground:

You know in some cultures teenagers can be "promised" to other people just because "The parents are fine with it", so any kind of bound is created. In other cultures minors cannot even "think" about adults. Many will complain that this series ends 1hour (story time) too soon, so it is a bit open for "interpretation": as I cannot be sure 100% of it I will give a rating considering this topic neutral (no judgment).

From a strictly analytical point of view we can say Sayu did 1 very big mistake at the summer festival (but can't be more specific to avoid spoiler, who watch will understand, a matter of a few seconds): she does not know it because she probably never experienced a "normal" dating behavior, and the guy who should be the "experienced one" (Yoshida) is too naïve to understand what it's happening.

Good anime but didn't like the ending
shopnil-5046125 July 2023
The concept of the anime was simple and had some strong messages. The episodes had the charm to attract the audience and watch it till the end.

The anime depicts the relationship between an adult and a teenager, more like a mentor-learner way than lovers. The story is about a teenage girl going astray and she is being motivated and helped to come back to the right track. The mentorship motivates her to confront her past mistakes and look forward to future. The side characters really add up to the romance spice.

But everything was fine which was ruined by the ending. The story would have been much better if the relationship between Sayu and Yoshida would have been kept as helping and adult and helped teenager rather as couple at the end of the series. Despite developing mutual feelings for each other, the relationship could be a pure bond developing from helping each other.

Would have rated higher if the last 2 minutes of the series didn't exist.

Overall a good anime but the ending ruined the chance of it becoming a very great anime.

rezasoban5 May 2021
I binged first five episodes.......four times.........on the same day.........for the first time .Yes I'm watching Vivy, Fumetsu no... ,nagatoro and other too but this one is Truly underrated piece of work, huge respected to the writer, director, va, everyone involved in the production or in any way. The dialogues, the precision with which the scenes are written, the amount of feelings and heartfelt love put is incredible. Sayu is best girl, must be protected at all costs, Yoshida has great voice, personality, everything, I love his character. Looking forward to everything.

Really emotional
bdnahian26 November 2021
At first I want to say I'm only giving this rating because of the ending. If they make a season 2 or an ova explaining the ending I'll change my rating. Now about the anime. I was really didn't want ed to watch. Because sayu is not a virgin. Even though it's not her fault fully still she sold her body of her own accord. But one day I gathered my courage and watched it. It was really a bittersweat journey for me. I also kinda pissed at the ending. But it still was worth it. So,I'll recommend it to watch.

Really Wholesome
shanejonathan26 April 2021
Well Higehiro is my favorite anime of this season. It is undoubtedly Worth watching even if slice of life is not your thing mainly due to the unique and amazing character of the protagonist Yoshida. His kind-hearted, caring soul and his selflessness are features we can even greater appreciate due to the fragile with a tragic past co-protaginist Sayu. Overall it is a as the title states a wholesome story.

Relationships between people of different ages
Mysterygeneration13 January 2024
Relationships between people of different ages are a contentious social issue that are frequently criticized for their brief marriages and mockery. Nonetheless, some people have been able to find contentment in their partnerships, as demonstrated by Sayu and Yoshida's "parent-child" household. Sayu's background is filled with sadness as a result of her unfulfilled sexual favors and natural beauty. She is an easily susceptible girl. Her careless demeanor and attitude, which included becoming depressed, caused her to lose her virginity and fall from grace as a teenager. As an adult, Yoshida is starting to develop a romantic connection with a coworker and his junior in a love triangle. He hopes to win her over as he matures.

Quality slice of life!
aleksi-berkan26 May 2021
In the first episode, I really thought this would be another throw-away fan service series. Oh how wrong I was!

This is a really good anime, touching on some serious themes that are usually brushed over in other series. And it does it well! It's emotional and heartwarming, has interesting characters and the music and animation is stellar. It's an all around pleasure to watch, and a must watch for any slice of life fan.

Higehiro: After being rejected I shaved and took in a high school runaway
Tweekums6 July 2021
This anime series opens with salaryman Yoshida being rejected when he finally manages to tell a woman how he feels about her. He gets drunk and as he returns home he finds a teenage girl named Sayu sitting by the side of the road. She offers to sleep with him in return for a place to spend the night. He rejects that offer but does take her home and looks after her. He later learns that many men had accepted that offer since she ran away from her home in Hokkaido six months previously. He makes her a different offer; she can stay at his place if she does the housework and cooking. Soon a platonic friendship develops but inevitably there are some problems; society is unlikely to believe their relationship is innocent and one day somebody will come looking for her.

I enjoyed this series even more than I expected; it could so easily have turned into something sleazy but instead, thanks to Yoshida's moral behaviour, it has a purity that is heart-warming and uplifting. Our two protagonists are both likeable and fun to spend time with. Other characters are interesting too although inevitably some are less likeable; most obviously a man she had previously stayed with. The character designs may be fairly generic but they look good and suit the series. Overall I'd certainly recommend this to anime fans; I hope at some point we get to find out what happens next for Yoshida and Sayu.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

Interesting but it might not be everyone's cup of tea
kwesib-3217925 June 2021
The plot basically revolves around the very healthy relationship between a salary man and a teen on run from home. This series caused a controversy in some countries because the love pairing involved an elder and a teen. Rest assured, there is no sexual abominations in show, at least for now.

The story is not really complicated. It is simple but yet complex. I liked the show for its maturity when it comes to the relationship between its characters. This is something that is sadly missing in modern slice and life anime and I really appreciated this from the show. All the characters are fleshed out and well developed. The main male protagonist is not your generic main character who is oblivious and naive with all the girls mysteriously falling for him. No. He is a salaryman, neatly thirty and acts his age perfectly. The female protagonist may look cliche from the first and second episode but she receives the most tremendous character development. She has an actual goal and a well written back story. She therefore does not scream "look at my chest" at all like you see in other absurd slice and life anime. The side characters although few are interesting. The side love interests experiencing unrequited love are not brash and hot headed but very realistic. As a result, the story is unpredictable and it does not bow down to anime stereotypes and clichés. Basically, the show is a mature show that deals perfectly with mature issues and topics we can relate with. Now as to why I said it is not everyone's cup of tea; not everyone will like such realistic and mature dramas especially people seeking light toned harems with an unnecessary amount of fan service as well as fantasies between an adult and a teen. However, this show is very much worth a try and a brilliant work well done.

Hard hitting and refreshing
wwwtruckworthy1 July 2021
I thoroughly enjoyed Higehiro from start to finish its a very unique show with realistic setting and characters. The show mainly focuses on a high school girl who runs away from her home and how she meets a man in his late 20s who gives her shelter and from there how their relationship proceeds . Some people may find it a bit controversial and it is to an extent but it's handled quite well in my opinion. Overall a great show imo.

First of all the title is misleading. Do not expect some cultured stuff here. This is a very heartwarming story about an adult man who takes in a teen girl with a complicated past. He acts as an amazing father figure to this girl who had run away from home. Note that this is a mature and a slightly disturbing story. The characters here are great and very well done which itself would make you love it. I personally loved the portrayal of the male MC as a Japanese salary man. Good show dealing with serious issues - would definitely recommend.

Side-note: Just love the way how light is reflected from the hair of the characters.

So good
hoangthien-3877116 February 2024
Warning: Spoilers
With the fascinating plot above, After Shaving My Tail, I Picked Up the Girl Home (Hige Wo Soru Soshite Joshikousei Wo Hirou) is an anime for all audiences regardless of gender or age. However, this work is not for animation fans. Therefore, if just because the name sounds very cartoonish, I honestly advise you not to waste time watching this anime. No matter what the reality is, no matter how hateful, we should not rush to judge a person based on their appearance, but better understand why they do what they do, from there we can sympathize. Forgive those mistakes. Because it is a spiritual medicine to lift them up from the brink of despair like Yoshida did."

Season 2
hampus-7950822 October 2022
That series is very good and I recommend watching it, I saw it a few days ago and fell in love with this series and I hope there will be a season 2, does anyone know? It's not very highly rated, but it's one of the best romance anime I've seen, they have a very funny and good personality, it's like 13 episodes, and if there's anyone reading this and wants to watch it, I recommend watching it on sub it is much better I saw it myself on sub and have heard dub but god so much better sub is,It can be found on crunchyroll and probably some other places but not as far as I know, It's about a man who works and takes care of a high school girl who ran away from home.

The animation is nothing superb, but still enjoyable. The opening & credit scene are great. I would recommend this just for the premise. The dynamic that the main protagonist have with the other character is pretty interesting.
