Suspenseful and intriguing drama/thriller with big-name cast giving nice interpretation
ma-cortes3 February 2022
Pretty good thriller series with big-name creative talent , unstopped intrigue , emotion , mayhem and suspense . This ¨Todos Mienten¨ or "They All Lie" or ¨You Shall Not Lie¨ (World-wide, English title) is a thriller with a lot of twists and turns. The series is set in Belmonte , a posh little town on a coastal location , where everyone knows too much of everyone else's business . Things get especially heated when a video is seen by everyone on the internet . As the peaceful life of the residents of the coastal urbanization of Belmonte changes radically the day a sex video of Macarena (Irene Arcos) , a school teacher, and (Iván Lucas Nabor) , one of her young students, appearing strong images uploaded on the internet . This event shakes the lives of all of them, especially Macarena, the woman who ends up involved into a complex plot , who becomes suddenly isolated , including his family and Ana (Natalia Verbeke) and Diego (Ernesto Alterio) , her best friends and Iván's parents . Things go wrong when a body appears next to the coast . Along the way , Macarena becomes involved in most intrigues and conflicts.... Whose body is it? Does this death have something to do with the sex video of the teacher and the student? . A Secret Has Many Guilty Parties

Top-notch , tense television series in which step by step the suspense and mystery stars to be unfolded until a moving finale with no rest . This is a compelling thriller series , and it unspools within a tight-knit community of friends and colleagues , being formed by 6 episodes with plenty of tension , intrigue , shocks , plot twists and known actors providing terrific acting . Dealing with some twisted love scenes uploaded on the networks , but even things in the town get even more complicated when the lifeless body of one of Belmonte's inhabitants shows up on the cliff . Well paced series with a lot of surprises that will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish . It is a highly cerebral and mysterious thriller filled with cliffhangers , plot twists and unexpected denouement un its ending part . The original as well as entertaining premise is overspread throughout the movie , adding some brief convencional pitfalls . This stunning series is frankly fine , though sometimes confusing and repetitive, as well as adequate runtime , as six long episodes turn out to be enough . Main and secondary cast are pretty good , giving over-the-top acting . Stars Irene Arcos as a school teacher who is repudiated by her family and neighbors . Remaining cast are awesome , such as : Leonardo Sbaraglia as cuckold and bewildered husband , Ernesto Alterio as father of the missing teen , Natalia Verbeke as the desperate mother , Juán Diego Botto as a sly advocate , the latter married to Miren Ibarguren as a cop woman , Eva Santolaria , her hubby played by Jorge Bosch and Lucas Nabor as Iván , among others .

It displays a luxurious and colorful cinematography by Julián Elizalde , shot on location in Tarragona, Barcelona, Tarragona, Girona , Catalonia, Spain. As well as moving and atmospheric musical score by Arnau Bataller , including some songs sung by Marisol and Mari Trini . Being well finaced by Filmax and Movistar Plus , it recently premiered at Vitoria Festival and will feature in this year's Beta Film Mipcom lineup as a market screening before airing on Television. The series was well written , produced and directed by Pau Freixas , as it marks the latest offering from this great creator , one of Spanish TV's most prolific creators now working as a showrunner. Freixas is a good Spanish TV director who has written , produced and directed important series , such as : Días de Navidad , Citas , La Fuga , Pulseras Rojas, Los Misterios de Laura , Hermanos y Detectives , Ris Cientifica and the successful Se Quién Eres "I know who you are". And occassionally for cinema , such as : Heroes , Cámara Oscura , and Cactus . Rating 7/10 . Better than average . Well worth watching .

Whoever ?

....wrote that long winded positive review must have been paid.

This is extremely trite lightweight tripe and an insult to abuse and imbalance of power issues.

Did I read black humour? No it's clumsy humour that backfires delivered by ridiculous characters saying and doing improbable things, the only credible one so far is Mac's husband.

And it's time to stop women slapping men because they're angry in tv shows and movies. If this were reversed it would cause the male to be identified as an violent scumbag.

I think overall this shows the Spanish culture has a lot of catching up to do.

Boring, useless, stupid, superficial, ridiculous TV series.

Horrible! The show is also well shot, and the editing, with the classic flashback method, isn't bad either, technically nothing to complain about. The problem is the script, ridiculous and bordering on shameful, with characters that are absolutely not credible or, worse, completely insipid, they all seem like 15-year-olds in heat. Difficult to find the dumbest character in this show, I think they compete for the worst human being on planet earth or at least the most stupid. If 15-year-olds had shot it, it would have been more believable, unwatchable, but more believable! Boring, useless, stupid, superficial, ridiculous TV series. 4 only for cinematic technique. Annoying!

... what they're doing is not as easy as they make it appear ... yet they each do it all so well

... sometimes you are better off not knowing anything about a production before starting watching, sometimes the opposite... here not looking for flaws has great benefits, as you just then are able to watch all the craziness and not be influenced by anyone's thoughts-critique... it's the only way to accepting the pleasures of such nuttiness

... and there's really lots-to-like... the entire cast with little exception are absolutely terrific... many shows of this genre are not really this amusing, so well done in their entirety... here in YSNL you'll find yourself laughing-amused much more than you thought you ever might... accept all the glorious confusion as being completely not normal, not trying to make sense of any of it, until the very ending of S2, as things become clear

... so don't read anything beforehand, go in clean slate... odds are you'll be rewarded for that choice... then you'll so be looking forward to Season 3... REALLY-looking-forward to it... part 3 of their next installment of insanity... with the introduction of what would appear an interesting-nutty-new-character... probably more, coming from our ever-persecuted leading-lady's new surroundings.

Where do I start?
laduqesa6 April 2023
Well, with the dreadful, humorous tone of the series. Sexual abuse is never pretty and the "dark" humour (which is actually triteness) is completely inappropriate. Imagine if this had been a fifteen year old girl who'd been abused by a 50 year old male teacher! But the writers and producers thought a series where the abused was a lad and the abuser a woman could be funny.

Then, where were the cops? Where were the interviews under caution? Instead, we got some kind of reporter-led investigation initiated by Ivan's furious father.

When machiavellian plotlines began to surface and stalking involving other crimes, that was the time to throw in the towel. I'd watched two episodes and skimmed through the third to see if anything could be retrieved but it was clear it couldn't be so I gave up.

Not recommended in the slightest.
