Getting Better
reaganklippstein29 October 2022
First things first- I absolutely enjoyed this anime. Was it super fun to watch? Yes. But were some problems in Fairy Tail still present? Absolutely. So, to avoid jumping topics, I'll just list the good and the bad.

Positives: -Rebecca is a very competent female character, who takes the reigns of some action scenes (seriously those guns are pretty cool) -Genuinely funny! At least, the dub was imo -Almost no filler, every episode is relevant -Fanservice doesn't happen as often as in Fairy Tail -Hey, look, some of the girls' outfits cover most of their skin! Neat!

Negatives: -When present, the fanservice is still atrocious *cough cough* homura -B-Cuber stuff gets kinda annoying when Rebecca doesn't stand up for herself (more so the blue haired chick who always makes fun of her) -Recycling characters, although this isn't really detrimental to the plot, just kind of weird (was funny to point them out while watching with my sister, though) -Rebecca's action scenes usually get cut off or are insinuated by a comment on her body -Random characters showing up and leaving for plot convenience -I get that Shiki's been training for a while, but seriously give him a real opponent he's too op right now

So overall, I'm excited for season two. Really interested in the direction this show might take, since i haven't read the manga. I'm personally hoping the plot can take some time to slow down and the universe can be explored more, but whatever they choose to do i'm along for the ride.

I'm a massive Hiro Mashima fan - that's just a heads up
HardLight28 December 2022
To explain the full reason why I've given such a high rating to an anime that - for all intents and purposes - is just an introductory arc is hard to explain without actually seeing it, knowing the author's work and their way of doing things, but I'll give it a shot and without spoiling things.

One constant throughout Hiro Mashima's writing is the 'journey adventure' that comes along for a hero or heroine who is then swept up in it, we got that with Groove Adventure Rave with Haru and we got it with Lucy in Fairy Tail, both are people who actively seek out adventure and are brought into a larger world.

So It's a shock when we get a hero this time around who is the reluctant hero, Shiki is a guy who likes his life and doesn't want change but has it forced on him due to loving people around him and that's the first thing I thought was both interesting and different for a Mashima work - and I like it.

Add to that the idea of sentience in robots being a constant and you've got a pretty amazing beginning for a story.

I won't go into other characters dynamics and their lives as it's spoiler territory but surprisingly this one is a little darker for a Hiro Mashima penned piece and I'm interested in that, the plots that are just beginning to be uncovered and the family dynamic built.

I stayed away for too long too as I wasn't sure whether it was linked to his other works - and it is tangentially - but it's still good, definitely interesting and I'm waiting season 2.

This is the first Netflix original anime I've truly felt has been worth noting. And its AMAZING
josephtucker-0319428 August 2021
I was surprised at how much I enjoyed the first few episodes and by the third or fourth I was downright rooting for our MC. The art style to me is reminiscent of anime I'd watched in my childhood but pleasantly in a modern aspect ratio and with better coloring and detail. I'm really REALLY looking forward to season 2+. KEEP. IT. COMING.

Correct previous errors
martin_merelesc3 March 2022
Edens Zero improves on the mistakes Fairy Tail made and turns them into improvements that make the anime better. It would be wise not to refer to Mashima's same face syndrome that's shown in the characters and focus on how the story will progress as it continues. I hope the anime will be able to properly execute the further chapters at this level of quality. Once again, if Edens Zero fixes the flaws that Fairy Tail had, then it has the potential to surpass Fairy Tail and previous works from Mashima as the best adaptation of his manga.

Genuinely do not understand some of the bad reviews
emdrmichael31 August 2021
The score is pretty low online, and I'm not sure why. Seems to be a lot of guys mad about something specific. This anime is great! Super fun and bingeable. It is full of action, cute, and exciting. I enjoyed it more than most of Fairy Tail. Definitely watch it.

The wait for the anime was worth it!
travislafrance27 August 2021
This show is just so much fun.

It's action packed, very funny and pretty darn epic already with not many episodes out.

The crew is absolutely terrific (Moscoy) and just enjoyable to watch.

Fairy tail(one of hiro other manga/anime) is my favourite thing, So when hiro throws in his Easter eggs I love it very much so, and there is a lot of them!!

If you want a show where you are smiling and laughing the whole time Please WATCH EDENS ZERO( and fairy tail obviously)

Enormously underrated
kwesib-3217928 June 2021
At the time of writing this, it's been nearly three months since this show was released but yet only a little more than a hundred participants have rated this show. 7/10 is totally undeserving for this great work of art. Edens Zero is fast paced with no fillers and has a good storyline. The adventures are awesome and you do not need to be a space lover to enjoy the anime. At first, it may look like the old "power of friendship" but it gets serious right from episode 2. After the episode where the villain turned the poor ladies into furniture art, I saw that this show meant business. Hopefully it gets better and better.

Disappointed in the ridiculous amounts of fanservice
alicesmth-266695 September 2021
Hiro's art is what always has me curious to watch and the art is good, I appreciate the Galaxy he created. That's where it ends for me, the writing could entertain a child... Let's be friends! The increase of fanservice from FT is insane. Hiro is letting his old man perv out in full force and telling us what he thinks of women. It was just too much. Sad because the art made me hopeful but it's just pathetic.

One of the best anime of 2021!!!!!
tommyjommy19 July 2021
Many people are skipping this show because the characters look like the cast of fairy tail. Trust me this show goes places any other shonen could only dream of. This show deserves atleast 8.5 rating it devastates me to see that such masterpiece has 7.2 rating whereas anime like tokyo revengers and jujutsu kaisen have 8+ ratings. This show is better than both of them and possibly the best and most unique new gen. This is going to be the next big thing! Hop on the hype train before it becomes the most popular anime!!!

it is a fantastic story and very underrated
naluyass9 December 2021
Trust me when I tell you this story is misleading; It looks like a classic adventure anime and all happy but really this story is not what it appears to be that by the way I recommend the manga 100% and the second season will come strong.

A must-watch for new and ongoing space anime fans!
bobcorny26 January 2023
It's a super-stuffed sci-fi anime that goes full throttle and doesn't stop, no unentertaining filler in sight. I haven't read the manga, so I can't comment on it, but I bet it's even better than the anime. It's not a show that's always light-hearted, since there tend to be dark moments scattered throughout. I'm a huge fan for space cartoons, and this is top on my list. The only complaint I have would be the abuse and fan service specifically targeted towards women. That type of stuff is becoming a huge problem in modern-day society, especially in anime. Even with that said, I still really enjoy it if you can look past that, which I know is hard for some people. Hopefully the second season for the anime adaptation will be even better than the first!

FairyTail In A Different Setting
undr_taker6 September 2021
As someone who has watched FairyTail, this anime is really very close to that with pretty much the same characters merely in a different setting.

Boring for me, but I guess it's OK for people who have never seen FairyTail or just love the same thing in a sci-fi setting.

This show is delightful
emdrmichael18 December 2021
This is a fun, wholesome yet violent, good time. Likable characters and great fight scenes. I binged the first season in three days. The main character's whole goal is to make friends. He has to fight most of them first though, then protect them. The side characters are fun and have decent personalities. Little too much fan service, but hey it's anime.

"Netflix Original Anime my ass"
westpresley14 November 2021
You cannot tell me this isn't a literal copy paste of fairy tail... there are slight differences Bc they don't have magic but c'mon now every character is pretty much copy paste go to episode 2 and wait till you see Levi and her crew.

Captivating Journey Through the Cosmos - Edens Zero Earns a Stellar 9 out of 10
emmzkondowe8 July 2023
Edens Zero, based on Hiro Mashima's manga, delivers an enthralling adventure that captivates viewers. With its vibrant characters, stunning animation, and captivating storytelling, it earns a well-deserved 9/10. The diverse cast, led by protagonist Shiki Granbell, brings depth and growth, while the animation dazzles with its vivid colors and fluid motion. The narrative strikes a perfect balance between humor and profound themes, exploring friendship and humanity.

Edens Zero's immersive universe and imaginative world-building add to the series' appeal. Though minor pacing issues arise, they don't hinder the overall enjoyment. Edens Zero is a gem in the anime galaxy, a must-watch for sci-fi and heartfelt storytelling fans.

An enjoyable sci-fi/fantasy anime
Tweekums11 December 2021
As this anime series opens we are introduced to Shiki Granbell, the sole human living on the planet Granbell; an abandoned theme park planet otherwise only inhabited by abandoned robots, which Shiki considers his friends. When the planet is visited by Rebecca Bluegarden and her robotic cat Happy the robots 'persuade' Shiki to leave with her. Together they determine to explore the cosmos and find 'Mother' a possibly mythical entity who Shiki believes he has met before. Following an early encounter they acquire a new ship; the titular Edens Zero. This ship had four powerful robots helping operate it; to get it running optimally they will need to scour the cosmos for these robots; in doing so they will come across various dangers.

I thought this series was a lot of fun. It nicely combines sci-fi and fantasy tropes. The characters are fun to watch and their quests, to find the four robots and Mother, are interesting. The Ether Gear used by various characters is effectively a magical power which gives the characters different skills; in Shiki's case the ability to control gravity. There is a fair amount of fan service although it will seem tame to anybody who has watched the likes of 'Strike Witches', Elfen Lied' or 'Ikki Tousen'. Similarly the level of violence may be higher than most western animation but is tame compared to many anime series. Overall I'd recommend this to fans of sci-fi and fantasy anime; I look forward to future seasons.

These comments are based on watching the series in Japanese with English subtitles.

An anime that born to be a clasic
liraenriquec4 November 2023
Eden Zero is arguably the most underrated anime of the decade. It is a work of art that has all the hallmarks of a classic.

First, it has an intriguing and captivating story. Second, Eden Zero boasts top-notch storytelling. I can't recall a single episode that felt filler or unnecessary; the author didn't waste time with empty fluff.

Third, all of the characters are well-developed. There are no clichés here, only great stories and development.

The defining feature of Eden Zero is that every episode has something interesting, intriguing, and exciting to offer. Additionally, the show masterfully manipulates the audience's emotions. In each chapter, you'll feel the tension of the antagonist's immense power, the intrigue of unexpected events, and the anticipation of what's to come.

I highly recommend this exceptional adventure that will make your summer unforgettable.

A strange concept
pcouzens-9442824 October 2021
At first i was rather confused, i went in knowing nothing but i have seen a lot of fairy tail. At first i kind of disliked it as many of the characters were almost like re-skins of the fairy tail characters

then i thought about it differently. I have no idea if this is correct but i think rather than characters the manga-ka uses them like actors which is an interesting concept but sadly its not quite enough to keep me hooked.

As others have said probably none too bad at all if you havent seen fairy tail, otherwise not one to rush for.

75% recycled from Fairytale, and not the good stuff
jonathanschafer-7075529 November 2021
At first glance, you can see that they took the universe rules, exact art-style, and even many of the characters (and there arcs, just with super slight tweaks and less of the humor and great fights). Its recycled garbage and a pure cash grab by the creators of fairytale and Netflix...
