It's not Heartbeat or Endeavour but there is still a good retro feel to this with the styles and songs but there is a bigger story unfolding, possibly commenting on the Britain of today through looking at London almost 50 years ago.

Some good performances here and a great lead by relatively unknown Agnes O' Casey.

Eddie Marsan is back to being a cockney wide boy after being Welsh in The Pact and American in The Wrath Of Man (ok he pretty much played his usual persona in Deceit).

A good start and only Midsomer Murders to compete with it in the schedules so it should do well.

A solid 7 from me.

A young Jewish girl leaves her close family unit for London, when she arrives, she finds The Utopian dream is actually a living Nightmare.

Good on the writers and BBC for giving us thia story, and it's a tough one. Nazis is London, really did happen, years after Hitler died in his bunker.

This was an exceptional start, moving, engaging and intensely thought provoking. First off credit to the production team, this looks unbelievable, it's beautifully made, and superbly edited, they way they mixed in the original footage was superb.

First rate acting, a terrific cast were assembled for this, they all performed incredibly well, great to see Rita Tushingham.

I'm hooked, 9/10.

Ridley Road is based on Jo Bloom's novel. It charts the rise of the Neo Nazis in Britain just a few years after the end of the second world war.

Ridley Road was a road in London where a Jewish group known as the 62 Group was based. Formed to take action against the National Socialist Movement led by Colin Jordan (Rory Kinnear.)

The first episode follows Vivien Epstein (Agnes O'Casey) a young Jewish woman who moves from Manchester to avoid an arranged marriage.

She follows her ex boyfriend Jack Morris (Tom Varey) and is stunned to find he is involved with neo Nazis.

It turns out that Tom has infiltrated the NSM and he helps out the 62 Group. One of the members of the 62 is Vivien's uncle.

The first episode was uneven. Some of the scripting was clunky. It was better when it charts the rise of fascist ideology in early 1960s Britain and its parallel to modern times. Taking back control. Something to ponder when queuing up for petrol.
