The episode title, "The Gauntlet," is an error. A gauntlet is a glove; the word they meant was "gantlet." This is a fairly common mistake, notably in the Clint Eastwood movie of that title. However, "gantlet" is just an alternative spelling of "gauntlet", and the title is likely derived not from the glove but from "run the gauntlet," an idiom meaning to undertake and overcome a series of difficult challenges.
The Artifact of Courage is said to be the slingshot used by David to slay Goliath, but the type of slingshot depicted is the Y stick design. This design requires a rubber band or something of equal elasticity which hadn't been invented in the bronze age. The Y design didn't become feasible until 1839 CE, with the invention of vulcanized rubber. A bronze-age sling was a leather or fabric strap that was spun and released to throw a rock. A sling and a slingshot are two completely different weapons.
