Beautiful country side

Again netflix puts a black female when the person was white in 1000ad. Stop the woke political correct crap. Put people of other cultures in the historic positions they were in, not because the far left wants to erase history.

Beautifully shot

A lot going on in this first episode, throwing you right into the thick of the plot and characters. The cinematography is beautiful and the scenery and costumes look authentic.

Satisfied

I've been hungry for a new Vikings show and it satiated my hunger. We'll see how the next episodes go🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼🤞🏼 My fingers are crossed. I have hope for a good series, but it's hard to tell from only the first episode. It was a bit predictable, but I often figure out where shows are headed when no one has a clue. I figured the episode would end on the exact note if did once the show I guess foreshadowed it. Even if at the time I didn't realize it was foreshadowing. I also like the shows use of recognizable familiar Vikings when talking about the past.

Imagine seeing people to rate episode 10 and Netflix just drop the first 8 of them

What a great start...I was so worried for the begining of this and that exceeded my expectations by far...The story goes so smooth with no boring scenes and dialogues. My biggest fear though was the cast, especially the leas actors and how can continue the legacy of Fimmel Winnick Skarsgard etc that we loved at the original Vikings...Dude Sam Corlett(Leif)can be legendary in this role...He showed from first episode that he is gonna be the leader of the show alongside the also incredible good Leo Suter as Harald...Im so hyped for the rest of the episodes.

A very good start to the series

Warning: Spoilers
Through it we got to know the heroes of the series, as well as Kattegat, which evolved greatly from the original series, and we learned through this episode about the murder that took place in London and the development of the series greatly in production.

It was okay, overall.
Castillo23026 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
I was a huge fan of the first series, Vikings, and so I had high expectations for this show. Obviously it's not as good as Vikings, not by a long shot, but this is just the first episode. It has potential, and I hope that it gets better with each episode.

Now, as far is this episode is concerned, I would say that it was okay overall. Not great and not too bad. It was rather boring and monotonous, but many series tend to be this way at the start. The only thing that bothered me is the ending scene. It was a bit unrealistic. No, actually it was very unrealistic in my opinion. So this girl Freydis, she seeks revenge for being brutally raped by Olaf, Harald Hardrada's brother. What she decides to do, rather stupidly I might add, is to attack and kill Olaf in full view of the people who were gathered, as well as in full view of the important leaders. Why? And then what follows is even more stupid, she decides for some unexplainable reason, to kill one of Olaf's followers, who consequently, is very useful for Cnut and the invasion that they are preparing, as he holds valuable information on defenses of London (they mentioned beforehand that he himself took part in the construction of those defenses). But Cnut is somehow unbothered by this, and he decides to back off, and let Haakon pass judgement. So she brutally carves a cross on the guy's chest and everyone just stands there and let it happen. Really? No one will rush in to stop it? Expect for Olaf of course, who is stopped. But what about his men? Okay, whatever, so she isn't killed, but imprisoned by Haakon, and will no doubt be spared later on. The power of plot armor I guess.

Other than that, I was fine with the rest. I especially like Harald, and I hope that they focus more on him rather than the other two.

I'll give this a solid 6/10. Average.

It's fine. It's not a documentary
ranchofiesta28 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
It's not a documentary. It's not historically accurate. It's fine. It's entertaining. It has beautiful people and beautiful scenery (of Ireland). It's fine.

Depending on which "historians" you believe, 11th century Norway either had African and Asian slaves or it didn't. It's fine. Vikings were travelers, so they could have had.

I understand they took artistic license with historical characters and timelines. It's fine.

Two things I'm having a difficult time "forgiving"? That Leif Eriksson really died when Harald Sigurdsson was 5 yrs old? Nope. That it was actually Cnut's father who took revenge for the St. Brice's Day massacre? Nope.

First - King Aethelred was 30-ish when he called for the "extermination" of the Danes. So, WHY did they choose an actor 73 yrs old??? Not that Bosco (ya gotta love his parents for that name!) Hogan isn't a lovely actor, but please, even a 45 yr old British actor would have been better.

Second - I love Bradley Freegard! Hinterland, Keeping Faith! But his (Danish?? Norwegian??) "Scandinavian" accent absolutely sucks (insert cringy-yikes face). Every time this gorgeous man speaks, he sounds like a lousy attempt at a Middle Eastern accent. Stop rolling your "R"s! Even his own Welsh accent or a British accent would have been better.

But, it's fine. (sigh) Yes, I'll watch the rest of the season and it'll be fine. It's a fantasy. Based (tent-sized) loosely on historical people and events. It's really fine.

Another show gone "woke"
Djm03194 March 2022
A region of our planet that to this day is still 98% white for some reason had "a powerful black woman" as their leader. 🙄 Everything "netflix" has jumped off of the woke cliff. It doesn't make sense trying to force woke ideas into historical shows. Women did not lead armies. Women did not tell kings how to run the country. I'm sorry but women didn't have the right to vote in Norway until 1913. The most feminine of males are dominating female sports right now in 2022.

Fantasy version of vikings.
makwanypg26 February 2022
First episode, immediately i notice almost none of them look nordic besides the woman. Also their accent is off, and theres too many women who are bossy and lead, is this supposed to be in the 21th century or 10th? Also what is a single black woman doing, leading a gathering of vikings? Like wt* so out of place, its like if a white woman was leading black guerilla fighters. I wanted to watch authentic vikings, and all i got was a fantasy version of it.

First episode boring Hope ot gets better
Ki2026 February 2022
Loved the original Vikings. The first episode was boring and predictible. It was like a teen drama with Vikings. Hope it gets better. It has potential with better direction. Cast is pretty good. It needs more action and less taking.

Just tired of the BS
jens-25710 May 2022
I have now cancelled my Netflix subscription, not be because of this show specifically but because of the trend this show is an example of.

There is a reason that people in the north developed lighter skin, its called vitamin D deficiency and causes really weak bones. This condition barely survivable today and would be deadly back in the viking age.

When you destroy any possibility of suspension of disbelief out the bat then the rest really doesn't matter.

A collection of Goofs and Anacronisms
dennisumlaut17 August 2022
I quit the original Vikings series after the first season, because it is basically just a fantasy story with a bunch of names of historical or mythical people and places thrown in more or less at random.

A couple of examples: Ragnar and Rollo were not related and probably never even met.

Kattegat is not a town in Norway but the sea between Denmark and Sweden. And so on.

Everything is just so historically inacurrate that it is almost painful to watch if you have any knowledge of the era. The writers either didn't do their research - or more likely they bet on their viewers being too ignorant to know. Thus it is of course even more laughable that IMDB has Goofs and Anacronisms sections. There is nothing but Goofs and Anacronisms.

I thought I would give the new series a chance, but it is obiviously the same old mess. So this time I quit after one episode.
