We first heard about "Chapter Four," the first installment of a ten-part dark science fiction thriller web series from James Felix McKenney, last June; and now that it's available for download, we have a look at the trailer and word of the next segment: "Chapter Seven."
From the Press Release:
In the tradition of the critically acclaimed feature film Automatons comes MonsterPants' latest retro science fiction project, "Chapter Four."
The first episode in a proposed ten-part micro-budget web serial, "Chapter Four" stars musician, filmmaker, artist, and author Aurelio Voltaire, actress Mizuo Peck (Night at the Museum 1 & 2), actor Matt Huffman (Satan Hates You), and artist and television personality The Sucklord (Bravo TV's "Work of Art: The Next Great Artist"). The project's writer and director is genre-bending Diy filmmaker James Felix McKenney (Hypothermia, Satan Hates You), who is co-producing the series with Lisa Wisely of The Work Room. Word on a new project from MonsterPants, the New York-based, do-it-yourself non-studio behind such films as Satan Hates You and Hypothermia, landed in our inbox this week; and it's so unique and intriguing we just had to share!
From the Press Release:
MonsterPants is proud to announce its latest film project, "Chapter Four," the first episode in a ten-part online serial written and directed by Diy auteur James Felix McKenney (Automatons, Hypothermia). For now, the name of the entire serial is to remain a mystery. Each episode of this dark science fiction thriller will carry its own title, simply that of the number of the chapter.
McKenney explains, "I want to capture that pre-Internet, broadcast television feeling of discovery, where you would be flipping through television channels and stumble across a movie or a TV series in mid-story and get sucked in. During those times you couldn't go back and see what you missed,...

Indie horror director Larry Fessenden (Wendigo, Habit) has been producing films at a decent clip in the last few years and Hypothermia is one of the latest projects he has overseen. From director James Felix McKenney, who also helmed Satan Hates You, comes a simple story of the Pelletier family who go out for a day of relaxing ice fishing that becomes a nightmare.
Not only do they discover a strange creature under the ice, but a loudmouthed and opinionated ice fisher and his son make things even worse for the family. Here is when the old monster movie trope of “What’s the bigger danger, the ‘Other’ or your fellow humans?” rears its ugly head.
An indie drama wrapped up an old fashioned monster flick, Hypothermia isn’t a complete success, nor a complete failure. Rooker and company do what they can with a by the numbers script, populated...

Prometheus (20th Century Fox) Ridley Scott’s quasi-prequel to his 1979 classic “Alien” has an intergalactic exploratory team (Noomi Rapace, Michael Fassbender, Guy Pearce, Charlize Theron, Idris Elba) arriving on a uncharted planet, where they discover what appears to be a dormant alien spacecraft and what might be the first discovery of intelligent life outside of Earth. Of course, everything goes straight to hell before you can scream “Don’t touch that egg!” Sumptuous visuals and strong performances from the cast (not to mention a nearly-perfect first half) can’t compensate for gaping plot and logic holes that nearly sink the proceedings in the film’s protracted second half. It feels as though some very crucial footage wound up on the cutting room floor. Perhaps, as with “Alien” and “Aliens” we’ll see a “Director’s Cut” of “Prometheus” arriving on DVD within the next year. In the meantime,...

An interview with Michael Rooker is as distinctive as his resume. From his filter-free answers to penchant for swearing, Michael is as energetic over the phone as he is on screen, and his latest film is no exception.
In Hypothermia, Michael plays Ray, patriarch of The Pelletier Family, who is forced to fend off the murderous creature lurking just below the ice. It's an old-school chiller that Hollywood rarely, and sadly, makes any more. But that is exactly the reason Rooker signed up! Additionally, the actor and I talked about the return of Merle to The Walking Dead this October!
TheInsider.com: What attracted you to Hypothermia?
Michael Rooker: I'm a big fan of Creature From the Black Lagoon. Huge fan of that movie. I love seeing the zipper on the guy's neck. So when the director turned out to be going for that [vibe] with this movie, that sold me.

Horror films that use practical effects for their signature monster instead of spending half their budget on a CGI mistake that only ends up looking awful are always best and it’s the secret to the enduring success of Steven Spielberg’s Jaws and Ridley Scott’s Alien. Director James Felix McKenney wisely chooses the practical route for his horror film Hypothermia sees a father (Michael Rooker) and his family on an ice fishing trip only to encounter a monster living in the lake beneath the frozen surface. Here’s a film where the idea at its heart was sublime, but the ultimate execution is a major letdown. A man in a well-made rubber monster suit will almost always trump a CGI monstrosity; that is unless the man in a rubber suit looks like a man in a rubber suit with a horrible mask and not a descendant of The...

Another monster movie from Dark Sky Films is coming October 2nd, and it looks like a good one. The film is produced by the creators of The House Of The Devil and The Innkeepers, and stars Michael Rooker (The Walking Dead, Mallrats), Greg Finley, and Blanche Baker (great name). It is…Hypothermia, and it’s about a family on an ice fishing getaway. Ice fishing is dangerous as hell by itself, but add in a monster below the ice, and you got yourselves a horror movie.
The straight to DVD release (priced at $24.95) has a great retro poster (as well as a slick modern one). We have those and the trailer embedded below for your viewing pleasure.

MonsterPants, the New York-based, do-it-yourself non-studio that brought us such films as Automatons, Satan Hates You, and the upcoming Hypothermia from Glass Eye Pix and Dark Sky Films, is going beyond movies and comics with a new line of handmade limited-run toys and apparel by writer/director/artist James Felix McKenney. Get your credit cards out, kids, because this stuff is very cool!
From the Press Release:
"I love toys as much as I do movies and comic books," says McKenney, a life-long toy fan and collector. "They take up more room in my home than everything else I own. After all these years of collecting, I decided to try my hand at making some figures of my own."
The series of hand-made plastic resin figures are all designed, sculpted, cast, painted, and packaged by McKenney. "I'm not going to even attempt to recreate the polish of factory-made commercial or designer toys,...

Hard to say for certain whether or not Satan Hates You will turn out to be anything more than a bunch of forced humor and a pile of stunt casting. I'll be honest, it certainly appears that way. But I'm curious to give it a whirl and, admittedly, today's look at the DVD cover art is pretty awesome.

The Hypothermia Teaser Trailer has premiered. James Felix McKenney‘s Hypothermia (2010) teaser trailer stars Michael Rooker, Greg Finley, Blanche Baker, Don Wood, and Amy Chang. Hypothermia‘s plot synopsis: “Imagine Jaws under the ice, imagine terror at 20 degrees below freezing… In a remote winter hideaway devoid of any sign of life, two unsuspecting families on an ice-fishing vacation discover something sinister lurking in the frozen lake. One thing is for certain – the creature is hungry, and the only prey left is human.”
They certainly didn’t hold back on this teaser trailer. The blood flows. I think they show the monster far too many times and too much of it but since Michael Rooker is in it, I’ll give it a chance. Hypothermia‘s cast also includes Benjamin Hugh and Abel Forster.

James Felix McKenney's Hypothermia stars Michael Rooker, Blanche Baker, Greg Finley, Don Wood, Ben Forster and Amy Chang. Imagine Jaws under the ice, imagine terror at 20 degrees below freezing...
Hypothermia takes place in Maine in the dead of winter. Ray Pelletier and his wife, Helen, have been ice fishing the frozen expanse of Lake Noyade for over two decades, but this year something is different: no fish bite. Is it their new neighbors on the ice -- Stevie, Jr. and his overbearing Dad -- with their high-tech gear and over-sized rig that are driving the fish away? Or is it something else? Max Brooks is widely known for his best-selling success with the books World War Z and The Zombie Survival Guide, but he had previously dabbled in acting with TV and cartoon voice-over roles. He’s next going before the cameras in The Girl From Mars, the latest feature from Satan Hates You and Hypothermia’s James Felix McKenney.
In the sci-fi comedy, Brooks (who made his screen debut in dad Mel’s 1983 comedy To Be Or Not To Be) will play an anchorman in a series of recurring television broadcasts within the movie. Pauley Perrette of TV’s NCIS stars as a girl who claims to be from the Red Planet and changes the life of a lonely nerd. “I’m always excited to work with Jim!” says Brooks, who previously cameoed as another TV newsman in Satan Hates You. His wife, playwright Michelle Kholos Brooks, will co-star in The Girl From Mars as well.

I don’t know about other interviewers and whether they have a favorite interviewee, but mine, hands down, is Michael Rooker. The guy is the total package: hilarious, serious about his craft, a goofball at times, but always willing to talk about his latest or upcoming projects. And he’s just Such a nice guy!
So, when "The Walking Dead" started, I knew I had to interview him for that as his character quickly became a fan favorite. Then, I got the bonus of discussing Rooker’s directorial debut, also in the horror genre, Pennhurst. The interview that follows took over two hours to conduct and a few extra days of back and forth to clean things up, but it was one of the most hilarious interviews I’ve done in quite a while.

I know there has to be some geeks out there who are fans of Pauley Perrette, who plays Abby Sciuto on the CBS television series, NCIS: Naval Criminal Investigative Service. She’s the Goth girl/forensic specialist who was once described by another character on the show as “a paradox wrapped in an oxymoron smothered in contradictions in terms. Sleeps in a coffin. Really, the happiest goth you’ll ever meet.”
Outside of NCIS, Perrette does a couple other dashes of geek cred, having lent her voice in one episode of the animated series, Batman Beyond and more recently playing Ramona, a virtual alter ego in a documentary hybrid film based on Ray Kurzweil’s book, The Singularity is Near.
Now, Perrette will be taking a lead role in The Work Room Productions‘ next film, The Girl From Mars. Check out their release below for all the details.

Henry: Portrait of a Serial killer star Michael Rooker's career is still booming. After starring in James Gunn's horror comedy SLiTHER a few years back, he has since landed the leading role in Dark Sky Films' Hypothermia and now AMC TV's highly anticipated adaptation of Robert Kirkman's comic book series The Walking Dead. Rooker writes on his Twitter, "on my way to Atlanta soon to work with my new best friend Frank Darabont on 'The Walking Dead.'" Consider that confirmed. He joins the previously announced Jon Bernthal, Andrew Lincoln, Jeffrey DeMunn, Sarah Wayne Callies, Laurie Holden, and Steven Yeun in the project set among a group of zombie survivors of an apocalypse who are led by a police officer, Rick Grimes, in search of a safe place to live.

On an overcast, atypically cold May afternoon I got the chance to visit a haunted hotel. Or, at least that's what the locals and the staff claim about the 100 year old Yankee Pedlar Inn. Nestled on a Main Street corner, in the middle of cozy Torrington, Ct, the hotel has a reputation for strange sounds, and the sudden appearance of floating, spectral orbs. It's here that writer/director/editor Ti West has decided to shoot his latest horror-thriller, The Innkeepers.
The film stars Sara Paxton and Pat Healy as employees at the inn (keeping its name for the film) which is facing closure. Bored and familiar with the inn's reputation for being haunted, the duo attempts to find some evidence of ghosts in the time they have remaining.

From James Felix McKenney comes Glass Eye Pix and Dark Sky Films' ice-cold creature feature Hypothermia, which stars horror legend Michael Rooker (Henry, SLiTHER). Bloody Disgusting has got the first ever hi-res stills from the film that feature a double-dose of cold-blooded goodness. The story takes place in Maine in the dead of winter. Ray Pelletier and his wife Helen have been ice fishing the frozen expanse of Lake Noyade for over two decades but this year something is different: no fish bite. Is it their new neighbors on the ice -- Stevie Jr. and his overbearing Dad -- with their high-tech gear and over-sized rig that is driving the fish away? Or is it something else? The production team spent weeks filming on the ice, having to take snowmobiles and four-wheelers out to the actual set - making it a challenge to even grab a cup of coffee or use the restroom. Michael Rooker and the rest of the cast were real troopers!
Producers on the film include Dark Sky Film's Derek Curl, Jacob Jaffke, and Glass Eye Pix producers Peter Phok and Larry Fessenden.
