A weak climax ruins the experience.
Perspicuity18 September 2022
Warning: Spoilers
HIT is a like an episode of Crime Patrol (television show) with some brilliant acting by Rajkummar Rao. I guess television shows like Crime Patrol are the reason we don't get to see a lot of suspense thriller kind of movies, where a detective solves a murder mystery. This film is actually a very engaging thriller till it reaches it's third act, where it completely fizzles out. The director clearly knows that attention span of audience is reducing constantly, so he has paced his film in such a way that the dialogues of the next scene become audible even before the visuals of ongoing scene have reached an end; in other words the proceedings of the film don't allow you to take a break or get bored. For the most part, the screenplay intrigues you and keeps you guessing about the identity of the culprit; but unfortunately the writers and director couldn't figure out how to end this film, in a way that would have justified the buildup till that point.

Rajkummar Rao is one of the absolute best when it comes to acting performances. His script selection is questionable, as he often ends up doing some rather below par movies, but his dedication to the project as an actor is unquestionable. Rajkummar is without a doubt the best thing about this film; his stressed out face makes you believe that he is actually going through a tough time and is fighting with the sorrows of his past. Rajkummar's intensity always reminds me of the young Shah Rukh Khan, he delivers his dialogues with so much passion that it feels like he is genuinely experiencing all those emotions; Rajkummar doesn't act, he always becomes the person he portrays and his honest portrayal allows you to believe in the authenticity of the world in which the story of the film is unfolding.

Although there is not much humour in the film, but one particular scene was truly hilarious. The conversation that Rajkummar Rao has with Professor Chandrashekhar made me laugh even though the actors maintained a straight face throughout. It just shows the range that Rajkummar Rao possesses, he is mostly known for his serious roles but his comic timing is equally amazing.

The track involving Shilpa Shukla was rather bizarre; why would any person in their normal senses play a prank like that? Was she not worried about Police action and the court case she would be embroiled in because of her stupidity? Also, who sends their car to servicing with so many personal items kept in the back ? Her whole storyline was a little difficult to digest, and I wish the writers had come up with something else, because it felt too childish.

Why was inspector Ibrahim killed ? Why did he just keep standing there in the park waiting for a bullet to knock him off? Also, Ibrahim said that Fahaad worked in his area, he often visited his garage to get his car repaired, so how it is that he never recognized the blue car at his garage? And of course, Inspector Akshay appearing out of the blue in that scene to save Vikram's life made no sense at all.

Another thing that bothered me throughout was that Vikram kept giving every job to Rohit. I can understand, there is a lot of workload, so they need to divide work, but this was a bit too much; after every five minutes Vikram gave Rohit some work to do, as if he was his assistant. Why couldn't Vikram do some of the work ? The story was written in this manner just to explain their ending, Vikram never paid attention, Rohit handled all the evidence, so he had ample opportunity to mix things up and give the case a direction of his liking. Vikram relying so much on Rohit just didn't feel organic, it felt more like a plot convenience than a well thought out storyline. A good suspense thriller manages to surprise us in the end despite showing everything; we feel a rush of excitement after connecting the dots and realizing that the truth was right in front of us, we were just not looking at it. But in this film, they decided to hide everything, every single event took place off screen, which made the ultimate reveal a little flat.

The ending of the film was extremely weak. Sapna's behavior made no sense at all; she didn't come across as psychotic, her behavior was quite normal throughout the film, so why was she chasing after someone who was refusing her constantly? What made the climax even more unconvincing was Nuveksha's (the girl who played Sapna) poor acting. After an interesting buildup, the climax was a major letdown.

What made Sanya Malhotra sign this film? She had nothing to do in this, so I don't get why an actress like her who has been selecting projects very carefully off late agree to do a project like this. I kept waiting for some kind of twist about her to surface, but it never happened. I felt perhaps Vikram's past is linked to the disappearance of Neha, and he will find peace only after resolving that mystery, but that was never really the case.

In conclusion, I will say that HIT is not exactly a bad film, it actually has a lot to like in it, but the ending just leaves you with a feeling of disappointment and emptiness, because you don't feel satisfied with it.

Please ignore the bad reviews
apurvchanged871 September 2022
It seems the top reviews which rate this movie a 4 or a 3 are targeted and intentional trashing, probably because it is a remake of Telugu movie made by same director and the review writers do not appreciate the same movie being remade in bollywood.

Very good plot, very well executed and Rajkumar is extremely convincing in his portrayal.

I haven't seen the original and don't care either. I am sure original must be good and so is this one as it is a frame to frame remake (checked out the telugu trailer).

I don't understand why people have to be so pathetic to trash good work just because they are fans of certain actor who played the same role in original.

Story and pacing are perfect to keep you hooked.

VERY GOOD MOVIE
sunildaswaney-6364215 July 2022
HIT:THE FIRST CASE is a very sensible, well directed and well edited movie with competent performances by everyone. Although it was not a very challenging role as the one he played in "TRAPPED"RajKumar Rao delivered a very focused, convincing and realistic performance in this murder mystery.

Sadly good movies like these, don't draw huge audiences like a useless film like Bhool Bhuaiya does. In the entire theatre it was only myself and my wife. Alas somehow unlike the fairy tales of yesteryear,in which we had happy endings,in recent times useless movies make much much much more money than good quality films.

A classic example of this is the collection of most movies done by Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan.

7/10.

Very Intense. Decent Mystery Thriller. Great Acting Performances. Weak& Unsatisfying Climax.
ayaanbhojani8 September 2022
Gave it a watch and it was a great mystery thriller with great intensity but generally weak Climax. Rajkumar rao did a really great job and he acted very nicely his expressions, dialogue delivery everything was on point and he impresses, Sanya Malhotra is there for a very limited screen time and she does a decent job to whatever she got to portray however i felt the role completely did not justify her talent overall she was good, The other supporting cast were also good n noteworthy. The film'z takeaway is tht it has been made with a vry great intensity tht doesn't let u move frm ur sit evn for once with it's twists and turns. Talking of the negatives i felt the climax was very weak indeed and from the intensity tht made us stick to our screens throughout it's runtime the climax didn't satisfy at all, atleast the director wld have made some changes to the climax and it would have been an excellent mystery thriller. Nevertheless Hit:the first case is a great intense thriller with some good twists and can be watchable once, I rate it 6.9/10 starz.

Edge on the seat thriller
cifarshayar16 July 2022
HITTheFirstCase is a well made suspense thriller a genre I like the most. Rajkummar Rao as inspector Vikram nailed another character. Although films publicity remained weak it has created buzz among the movie goers Director Kolanu Sailesh has done a wonderful job. The movie keep you hooked till the climax when the culprits identity revealed. Its writing is engaging which not let you to leave your seats. Although there was not much for Sanya Malhotra to do in the film her presence was felt in the movie.

Exactly what a suspense movie should be
unrivaledraj28 August 2022
People rating it anything below 7 have no sense of appreciation. Going by bollywood standards, this is absolute treat.

For starters there are plenty of suspects, but no obvious ones or clear motives, which usually happens in a thriller movie where you are able to predict as to who's the culprit. But in this you can't till the very end. Rajkumar rao nails his role like usual. I love how they gave some hints and moments of his past throughout the movie but never gave any details about it and saved it for the second part. That's beautifully done, as it doesn't leave the plotholes in first part, but does create a base and curiosity for the next one.

It's a must watch movie. Probably the best of bollywood this year.

Bad Script, Bizarre climax
ashutoshdabral-128 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
What a waste of a weekend watching this. The story is riddled with holes and none of the characters justify their actions. I just hope they don't make the sequel. Rajkumar Rao's character is someone whose behaviour just keeps changing frequently with any minor stimulus. The motive for the crime is razor thin and how it is pulled off is as unrealistic as possible. The movie starts well and shows some promise but after that it disintegrated very quickly.

By the midway point it's easy to lose interest to the extent that you would no longer care who is the criminal. Probably one of the worst movies of Rajkumar Rao's career.

Brilliant hit straight over the boundary!
arnab_9118 September 2022
Now this is not any bollywood detective movie like the recently released OTT flick from one Canadian kumar. It's far from it, far better in every sense.

1)there is no song and dance at the drop of a hat 2)no sudden twist or turn of the plot apart from the discoveries leading to the capture of the killer 3) there's actual detective work shown in the movie, and there's lot of it.

4) success of apprehending the suspect is shared by the whole department rather than being a typical one man effort.

5)the protagonist will be right in front of you the whole time yet you keep on guessing till the very end Conclusion: a really good gripping storyline with solid performance from all the actors. This is not some hit or miss movie. This is a should be hit movie based completely on its merit.

Let down by inferiority
SoumikBanerjee199630 August 2022
This is one of those films that was let down by an imperfect script and subsequently failed to reach its full potential. Although, the narrative did have all the requisite constituents to deliver an unforgettable outcome, alas! That potency didn't take shape, thanks to a poorly outlined screenplay which came off too abrupt and too incoherent for the core idea! Regardless, both the technicalities as well as the performances are modest, but it's too bad they can only do so much when the inherent inferiorities of the script are that much apparent.

P. S. So our beloved IMDb has just extented a review's minimum character requirements; from 150 Min. Characters to 600. I don't know the reason behind such pathetic idea, but I would like to convey my immense displeasure. Their guidelines tell, this decision would bring more 'Quality'; but I beg to differ. This would only discourage a lot of people out there who haven't got the time or the kind of patience to write wordy, articulated paragraphs. If any of the moderators are reading this. My humble request is to please reconsider your decision!

Bekkar Climax - ruined it..!!
Tejas_Vinda_AITS15 July 2022
A Crime Mystery...!! Some Crime Patrol episodes r better than this 😃

HIT (Homicide Intervention Team) detective Vikram (Rajkummar Rao).

It's a suspense movie but not at all a thriller one & this suspense will never end in this movie even at the end of this movie.

This movie is an official remake of the movie *HIT 2020 - TELUGU*.., frame to frame copy except the climax..!!

The film is more of an easy, misdirected crime mystery with a good build-up but no best result. 👎

Bekkar climax lets down the unpredictability established in the first half and the gay track is a complete nonsense..!!

Many things were quite lame in this movie. Expected better movie from Raj Kumar!

A treat with a thrill
akhilsyngal29 August 2022
It's surprising that such unique films don't become blockbuster despite being a mystery thriller which is interesting . One has to accept the fact that this film is way better than the usual Bollywood trash we normally see . I am surprised by the choice Rajkumar Rao has made & he has completely nailed the role . As a Hindi film lover you get so happy when you see such film especially when it's a mystery thriller .

Having said that I guess the editing & screenplay of this film could have been better because if it would have been then the makers would have nailed it & it could have been a masterpiece.

Rajkumar brings you a thriller worth watching except for the climax!
Kulin3322 July 2022
Story will keep you engaged throughout with such strong acting performances from all characters. Cinematography was done very well with few such beautiful scenes in the background, along with a great directing job as well.

The background sound does a pretty good job to make you feel the emotions on point, yet music of the movie wasn't that great. There were few thing that could have been better to make it a rememberable movie of 2022

But sadly the climax was not upto the mark which was a huge let done for many viewers along with me.

Hit: The first case

_A review by Rajesh Puvvada_

The ray of sunshine in Pune after weeks of gloomy weather brought me out of the house. I chose this movie just get out without having any expectations. But Ola!! This one definitely did impress me.

I was given to understand that this one is a remake. But I have no idea of the first make. So my review will be unbiased

It's a whodunnit saga cantered around a eminent but a psychologically challenged police officer. Many leads unleashes a wild goose chase and intensifies the suspense dramatically.

The plot rests on a extreme relationship which is revealed without a rush in the end.

The screen play is well paced with all characters playing their part aptly. Rajkumar Rao ones again holds the balance without letting the sides to tilt. Sanya Malhotra does justice to her role There is no character exaggeration. There are no unnecessary ornamentations, and hence the movie wraps up in 134 mins flat. The music score is decent and fires up well during the intense moments.

I am going with a 8/10. Every bit is well knit, and HIT is well poised to be a hit.!!

Good Movie
MehdiRizvi-786720 July 2022
Saw "HIT: The First Case" . Very good thriller! Its engaging and the suspense was also very good in the end. Kudos to the screenwriter and director. Rajkumar Rao delivers another superb performance as the investigating officer suffering from post traumatic stress disorder. Other supporting actors- Sanya Malhotra, Dalip Tahil have done well for their parts. It was good to see Milind Gunaji back on the screen aftr a long time. He has good screen presence.

Overall i am impressed with Hit , it has a well written script, gripping screenplay, good suspense and a superb performance from Rajkumar Rao. The film ends with a cliffhanger for 2nd case!.

Behtareen... This is called suspense thriller
Brilliant acting by Rajkumar Rao. Complex but interesting story. Best suspense thriller in many years. I know it's a south movie remake. But it doesn't matter. Fun is not knowing the climax. If you are watching for the first time and you don't know who is the culprit. U will be clean bowled by the movie. Watch it on big screen, it's worthy of it. It's a complete 2.5 hr fun ride.

Bollywood's ODE to " Gone baby gone "
hg-7502119 July 2022
Its a representation of gone baby gone , Casey Affleck was awesome in the movie, it captured the neighborhood, the community, the people, the city and was authentic. Here we just saw an aerial shot of a city in rajasthan during a chase , ( the chasing scene that became popular after casino royale ) and has been used multiple times in movies after that ... the director had to use all the throbes to make it work while in this process the tone gets lost , the feeling of certain environment that was captured in Gone baby gone was missing in this movie othet than that Rajkummar Rao kept on smoking to show how frustrated he was couldn't match the realistic acting of Casey . Hit was a good attempt it's just that the makers would have captured the lives , culture, the people and the neighborhood of at least a city of rajasthan where this movie is based on as it would have looked more educational and entertaining. My only concern is that when a director fetches the idea from a movie, try to see the feel that movie gives , overall the suspense was good.

Wastage a good story :(
tripurari_rai28 August 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Original Movie was fantastic. Though it was copy I was very happy that Rajkumar Rao is playing main lead but but but....typical bollywood stereotypes has been inserted in screen play.

1) Feminism in Neha introduction scene 2) Gay Kiss when they went to to pub 3) Dog lover scene 4) During introspection with college professor showing how old thinks about Indian culture is getting impacted by new generations.

5) Last but not least lesbian plot in climax .

I mean why not these sreen writers make it true screen play rather adding these preaching idea.

Disappointing that they wastage a very good story which was already a master piece.

Can watch it for time paas
nancybindal-4483311 September 2023
Movie is overall fine and one time watch. Main actors (Rajkumar Rao and Sanya Malhotra) have done a good job but supporting actors were not that good. Better supporting actors could have been casted. At times there was no link in the investigation being made by our hero . If you are looking for an amazing movie to watch then this one is not for you but if you need to watch a movie only to paas the time then you can surely watch this movie. It is a typical savdhaan india types of story but not based on a true event. Suspense is not a wow factor but story will surely keep you engaged throughout.

Do not have high expectations
ishwar_jindal5 October 2022
They started with something around past of the protagonist but throughout the film they just keep dragging what that past was and why protagonist is having panic attacks.

It is kind of funny that you keep audience guessing and yet film plays hide and seek with it. After a certain point this become a joke and irrelevant for the plot and eventually in this part 1 they never disclose why Raj Kumar Rao is having psychological issues. So not properly handling what you started is not done and hence one of the reason for low review.

The movie or plot would have been still same if Mr Raj Kumar Rao is shown as normal policeman rather than one suffering from some past issues.

Screenplay is good but overall plot is not very interesting. Quite simple suspense. So don't expect much. Few loose ends (not many) in story which is kind of normal in Indian suspense films so one have to live with it.

The movie is fast paced which is good but sometime it is too fast for normal police working style. So this deviates from reality.

Raj Kumar Rao performance is best as always. So 7/10 otherwise would have given lower than this.

Movie Review : HIT: The First case

#sanjuzzreviews #HITTheFirstCase #RajkummarRao #sanyamalhotra

HIT: The First Case, starring Rajkumar Rao & Sanya Malhotra is a Hindi remake of the 2020 Telugu language Mystery thriller film directed by Sailesh Kolanu.

The film starts off with the disappearance of a young girl Preeti after her car breaks down on the highway. The case is handled by a cop, Rajkumar Rao who is plagued with painful memories of his past due to which he suffers panic attacks frequently. Two months after the disappearance of the girl, his girlfriend Sanya Malhotra also disappears under mysterious circumstances. Are the two cases linked somehow. Will Rao be able to subdue the demons of his traumatic past , race against time and save the girls is what forms the rest of the movie.

A lot of work has gone into the detailing and it shows on screen. Casting is perfect & the narrative flows well. For once we can say that the remake is on par with the original. A Rajkumar Rao film all the way. Fantastic actor who gets into the skin of the protagonist effortlessly portraying his frustrations, angst, helplessness and vulnerability, making him relatable, as opposed to the superhuman cops like the Chulbul's and the Singham's of the world.

The makers are planning a franchise with the climax setting the tone for "The Second Case". Eagerly waiting for more films from this franchise.

3.5/5 from me for this film. Must watch if you like Whodunit's !! .... Adios 🙂
