Christopher as a tour guide again
kimraspberrytart25 March 2021
This was so similar to Love & Glamping.

It was OK. Easy to watch, silly storyline. Not a fan of Cindy Busby.

I liked it
jewhitmer257 October 2021
I was shocked, shocked I say, in the end of the movie Mark calls for a helicopter to get them out of the woods before nightfall (forget worrying about how they are going to land a helicopter in the woods). So, he calls for a chopper, she says what's the hurry, he says well I did bring my tent, she says is it big enough for 2, he grins and cancels the chopper.. This is a hallmark movie people, since when do we even hint at anything even slightly seductive. They are going to spend the night together in a one-man trial tent. Shock and horror, Hallmark what are you doing.

Anyway, back to the movie Cindy Busby always does a great job and Christopher Russell never disappoints, they had great chemistry. Cassidy Nugent was adorable and a great little actress, Hallmark should use her more often.

The script was adequate, nothing special, typical Hallmark, at least until the end. And the waterfalls and other scenary is spectacular.

Decent family movie.

Very enjoyable 86 minutes.

My advice - see the movie as a family, it will not disappoint.

Standard Hallmark plot...with some wonderful visuals
howie1423 March 2021
Girl gets her big career chance, falls in love, something happens to cause strife. It happens in all the Hallmark movies. There are times I wish Hallmark would go back to making movies less formulaic as they did a decade or so ago.

Still, Cindy Busby and Christopher Russell pull this off as they always do. Russell has done everything at Hallmark from romantic lead to self serving rat. And I have to strongly disagree with the reviewer who heavily criticized Ms. Busby's performance. To say that her lead characters in Hallmark films are anything like the always selfish rich girl she played on Heartland shows the reviewer either doesn't watch these films closely or didn't watch Heartland very closely. She was the villain most of her time at Heartland and is, of course, playing solid leads for Hallmark. The characters aren't close to being the same.

The falls they used are lovely, the little girl is charming, and I wish Miranda Frigon would get a lead and not play the jealous rival sometime.

At least Cindy Busby is still cute.
Racingphan223 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Dear Hallmark movie writers: Magazines are not doing well anymore. They don't have posh offices with huge staffs. And since the iPhone, the profession of photographer has about vanished.

At least the girl from Heartland is still pretty.

Better than I expected
Jackbv12324 March 2021
Given the subject matter and the two leads, I didn't expect to like this at all. I dreaded watching it, but I watch everything Hallmark does (except for a few of the amateur detective mysteries). I haven't liked anything Cindy Busby has been in except the Godwink movie, and I would have loved that with almost anyone. Christopher Russell is just too stereotype of a hunk.

The movie changed my mind quickly. The dialogue was good, at least in the beginning, and some of the situations were interesting. Cassidy Nugent was good as the daughter and I think it always helps one of these movies when the female lead bonds with her opposite's daughter. Busby and Russell did have good chemistry.

I saw the conflict immediately when it was foreshadowed, although it played out slightly different than I expected. I should have, but didn't see the ending coming, other than the obvious outcome.

Give the writers or director extra points for not doing the "It's a date. Oh, no, not a date" line for which there was a huge opening.

Chasing but not finding
rebekahrox23 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This was a very boring story with a good cast. I usually like Cindy, but as usual she doesn't have much to work with here. And unfortunately she seemed very stiff with Christopher Russell who is gorgeous as usual but really needs some spark with his co-stars to bring him to life when the script does not give him anything else to work with. She did have a good scene on the phone with her boss though.

Speaking of the script, how do I count the ways that this fell off the cliff (pun intended)? One line comparing a mythical waterfall to a unicorn was used twice. Speaking of which, she found this legendary waterfall which is so elusive people believe it doesn't even exist within a few hours hike from a busy lodge without even trying? She led the world to another hard to find fall earlier because her boss betrayed her and put in the co-ordinateswith the photographs she published in the magazine. We never find out what the outcome of that was. Do the sightseers leave a trail of litter, or do they respect the sacred place? She doesn't quit in anger, like she should have, and is going on to her next assignment. If she changes her mind, we never know about it. Will she continue on with her dream of being a professional photographer, or will she quit and stay with Christopher and his daughter now that he's not mad at her anymore? He was about to send a chopper to the secret location of the mythic waterfall, by the way, when they talked about how secret it was throughout the movie. Another silly lapse in the writing.

Nice scenery though. And in a first for Hallmark, at the end, they are planning to spend the night together in the same tent. We have to assume that means she is going to quit her job and be a wife and mommy (since his ex travels and leaves their daughter with him most of the time. And why should he take on another one of those situations? It all ends very vaguely)

the waterfalls are beautiful
SnoopyStyle20 June 2021
Amy Atwater (Cindy Busby) is an amateur photographer in Seattle. She seizes an opportunity for an assignment to photograph waterfalls. She needs to track down and photograph the mythical Redwood Falls. She encounters single dad tour guide Mark North (Christopher Russell) and his daughter Kyra.

The price tag meet-cute could be fun but he's grabbing the tag a little too close to her body. It's not like it's hanging at the end of her sleeves. It's a little awkward. When you name your run-of-the-mill Hallmark TV romance movie after a famous pop song, it's not expected to hear it in the sound track. It does up the cheese factor. The two leads are very beautiful and they are photographic gems themselves. I do like the cute puppy love with Kyra. There is a reason for waterfalls to be hidden or sporadic. It doesn't look like this is an isolated place so that is less likely the reason. I don't like it being used in this movie. The better reason is that some waterfalls need a lot of rain. That's the missed opportunity. It all adds up to be a rather bland fully-expected Hallmark romance. At least, this has some outdoor beauty shots and that is worth something. It's nice to go on a hike and the waterfalls are beautiful.

Beautiful Movie
pattersonjamie-1207917 April 2021
The scenery in this movie makes the movie worth watching.

I was a little worried about this movie because Cindy Busby's two previous Hallmark movies were boring and bad, mainly due to Cindy's acting. But she was really good in this one.

The overall story and acting is good.

Pleasant diversion from a Bluejays game option!

I didn't find Cindy Busby annoying as was suggested. She grows on you, but Amanda Frigon always plays a very dislikeable character!

Christopher Russell is a favourite at our house!

Grizzly?
LtlHippo6 May 2021
So did the guy say he would be more worried if it was a sow with cubs or a grizzly? That sure looked like a grizzly to me. How could they make such an obvious mistake? Was just so so, not great chemistry but glad it was Cindy instead of the usual Lacey/Danica/Candace trio.

Uplifting Movie with Wonderful Cast
videonutz21 March 2021
I'm Sorry but I am going to have to Disagree with some of the Previous Posters. Personally, I thought that the entire Cast was Amazing and that they also had unbelievable chemistry. I also thought that Cindy Busby was Perfectly cast in the Lead Role. She is always Perky, Pleasant and Natural with a Girl Next Door Personality. I Genuinely Felt the Chemistry between the the 3 Lead Actors throughout the Entire Film. They seemed like a Family almost Instantly. Unfortunately, I am personally going through a Difficult Tlme and watching this light and Breezy Film about 3 Happy and Harmonious Individuals made for a wonderful and enjoyable evening. This Movie will never win a Best Picture of the Year Award. But I would have Gladly Given it a 9 or 10 star review had a more Conclusive Ending. I enjoy Drama as well as anyone. In fact my Very Favorite Hallmark Movie " Second Chances " falls Directly into that Category. But I also truly enjoy Light and Happy Movies like # Love and Sunshine " my Second Favorite Hallmark Movie. It's True that " Chasing Waterfalls" is a Notch behind those Movies yet it is still a very Entertaining Film that is Light, Happy and Enjoyable and sure to bring you a couple of hours of Relaxation and Joy.

Good Enough

Well, the leads were very good and the scenery was amazing. Everything was going fine (actually very good) until the end part which I thought the last 15 minutes were handled very poorly. Unfortunate.

Was in general cute. However the preview almost made me not watch at all. Using chasing waterfalls by TLC is not my idea of a love song. Was extremely unnerved by the whole preteen with makeup and short skirt. Probably something Hollywood should avoid like the Plague. I like both actors however they possessed ZERO chemistry. Breathtaking scenery.

Hallmark movie, great scenery and entertaining without being deep.
TxMike22 August 2021
This is a rather typical Hallmark movie, running at just around 80 minutes, filmed in Canada with mostly Canadian actors who have experience in TV shows and TV movies.

The plot is an attractive woman is sent on assignment to an area to photograph waterfalls for a piece in an online travel magazine. At the lodge she meets an attractive man who also is one of the tour guides. He is divorced and has an attractive and smart 11-yr-old daughter. This threesome get to liking each other rather quickly.

My wife reminded me half way through that the Hallmark method is to throw in something to create friction then present a way for the man and woman to overcome it. The friction here arises when her photos are published with exact GPS coordinates so any tourist can find the hidden waterfalls, something she promised would not happen.

This is not a superior movie by any measure but it is a fun, pleasant diversion. We watched it at home on DVD from our public library, half drunk after our usual Saturday steak and wine dinner. It is perfect for that type of situation. No extras on the DVD, as budget as you can find.

Just about worth chasing
TheLittleSongbird21 January 2022
Expectations were a bit mixed before sitting down to watch 'Chasing Waterfalls'. The advertising appealed and Hallmark has more often than not delivered on beautiful scenery. Miranda Frigon is always watchable. Christopher Russell has left me conflicted in the past, sometimes he's very charming and at other times he is too introverted (dependent on how his characters are written). Cindy Busby has been decent in some things, but am going to agree with those that say her acting range is pretty limited.

'Chasing Waterfalls' is a little better than expected, especially considering that the premise also came over as on the dull side on paper, and has a lot of very good things. It also has some big problems. As far as Hallmark's 2021 output so far goes, 'Chasing Waterfalls' is somewhere in the middle of the pack. Neither one of the best or one of the worst. For a Spring Fling film, this could have been worse but also it could have been better.

There are a fair share of good things as said. The best thing about 'Chasing Waterfalls' is the scenery, which is absolutely breath-taking. Complemented beautifully by the photography. One of the best looking Hallmark films in a while. The direction is not exceptional but doesn't make the film too heavy and gives the story enough momentum. The script has a light touch when needed and has enough warmth.

Same with the story, which is nothing out of the ordinary but was pleasant enough. The characters aren't complex, but they are also not ciphers and effort was made allowing one to care about them. The supporting cast are solid, with Frigon shining and proving why she deserves more lead roles. Russell has an easy going charm and doesn't seem stiff or too introverted.

Really wish that Busby was on his level, who is bland and rather low key. Actually do agree with her range being limited, her Hallmark characters are indeed different to the one she plays in 'Heartland' but her Hallmark characters are not dissimilar to each other (which is actually what those criticising her mean) and she plays them pretty similarly most times, and there is not much variation here either. The chemistry between her and Russell isn't there enough and they don't connect as a couple or seem comfortable.

While the script is more than acceptable, it is not without its awkwardness and cheese and there is a tendency for it to repeat itself. The worst aspect is the very inconclusive and unfinished-feeling ending, which is clearly indicative of the writers having no idea how to end the film and copped out instead.

In conclusion, just scrapes above average. 6/10.

I thought I wasn't going to enjoy this Hallmark film, but I was proved wrong. It was great!
cgvsluis1 May 2023
I am not the biggest fan of the lead actress Cindy Busby, so I went into this film thinking I wasn't going to enjoy it...but I really did.

Starting with the scenery which is spectacular and only growing with the beautiful song "Over the moon" by Julian Dean Taylor (which I loved). This is a warm hallmark romance that really showcased the scenery nicely...although as a local Seattleite, it would be nice when they walk around the city of Seattle that they actually walk around the city of Seattle! It used to be a really lovely city.

The photographer Amy Atwater wants to finally do a feature story and is assigned her first big assignment on waterfalls. In exploring and photographing waterfalls she becomes close with the handsome guide Mark North and his daughter Kyra. Mark is played by the handsome Christopher Russell who seems to win everyone over with his easy charm and engaging smile.

Sweeter than I expected this is a lovely slow burn romance with a few dad jokes and some gorgeous waterfalls thrown in. Romantics will approve and appreciate!

My favorite quote: " Something about a grandfather that's hard to replace."

Also, I liked that a box of old photographs could inspire a photographer to go into photography.

" Easy to get lost, but if you let yourself go it is easier to be found."

Although a typical Hallmark, the story is very nice with magnificent scenery. Hallmark really needs to get more actors and actress's.

Better casting might have helped
quickwit23 June 2021
Chasing Waterfalls had breathtaking vistas to enhance Hallmark's traditional happy-ending storyline, but, sadly, lost points with the casting. The overall story follows the typical Hallmark plot ... character has problem to resolve, goes away or back home to escape/address problem, meets up with new/old flame, romance develops, conflict/misunderstanding introduced, conflict resolved/misunderstanding explained, romance moves forward, final kiss (usually aerial shot), roll credits. To be honest, that's what I love about Hallmark movies.

I agree with several reviewers regarding Cindy Busby's acting range. Her scripted character in Waterfalls could have made this better, but Cindy's performance, once again, detracted from the role. When I first saw her in a Hallmark movie, I thought she played the role accordingly, and looked forward to seeing more of her. It didn't take long to see that she seems to plays every character the exact same way. She appears to stay the course throughout each movie with an almost entitled, demanding, "know it all" delivery no matter how her character learns, changes, or softens. It's getting to the point where I almost don't want to watch movies in which she is cast, and I definitely don't rewatch as I do with other presentations. Granted, you could blame the acting on the script, but only if every script or director called for the exact same character style and delivery every time. Hallmark movies may seem similar with the overall storyline, but the female leads usually start with different styles (e.g. Perky, clueless, strong, angry, confident, etc.) that enhance or blossom throughout. I just don't see that growth and development from Ms. Busby. I don't intend offense to her or her fans as this is solely my amateur opinion and observation.

Christopher Russell (gorgeous as ever) does best in the more rugged roles, and Chasing Waterfalls was no exception. He has a natural, easy-going charm that makes you route for him ... even when he's being a bit unreasonable. Thus far, it seems most of his female leads have held him back. Andrew Walker, Luke MacFarlane, Ryan Paevy, etc. Seem to ooze charm with what comes across as natural chemistry, though even they would struggle with the wrong female lead.

The remaining characters, especially the daughter, truly helped to make the Chasing Waterfalls more enjoyable. If there would have been weaker supporting roles, Waterfalls would have suffered even more. If you enjoy the typical, almost predictable, feel-good movies that Hallmark presents, enhanced by beautiful vistas, Waterfalls will not disappoint overall, though the delivery may fall a little flat.

Pretty waterfalls, pretty boring story
hallmarkmov21 May 2021
The lead actress plays the exact same character in every movie. If you like her character you'll enjoy this movie. Lots of pretty waterfalls but the writing is really bad and the acting is worse. Didn't expect the ending though, that was a surprise. There should be training for these actors on how to pretend to take photos because this one was really bad. At least try to make it look like you are a professional photographer?

Bizarre child romance garbage...
powercise25 March 2021
Not sure why Hallmark needs 11 year olds to be concerned about finding love and dating and all that. Kids that age are into their sports, their friends, school, hobbies. The actress playing the kid was plastered in make up and looked ridiculous.

One tent, woohoo!
brendamaille28 March 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I really like both Christopher Russel and Cindy Busby. Russell just oozes charm and connects emotionally with all of his co-stars. Busby was well suited for her role. I also liked that the writers actually let the characters develop an obvious interest in each other from the outset without one of them "denying" that they were interested in the other. The relationship had a nice build up from beginning to end. After Russell's character sought out Busby's character to apologize at the end, I found the final "Hallmark waited for a long time for the leads to kiss" kiss to be somewhat disappointing. There really was no passion which we expected after their obvious interest in each other. I find the said final kiss in most Hallmark movies to be very uninspired with a few exceptions. But the most unexpected lovely surprise was when Busby's character said she was fine with spending the night in one tent and Russell's character immediately cancelling the rescue helicopter. Way to go Hallmark! I gave my rating an extra star because of the "daring" reference to overnight in one tent.
