Better, But Gimmick Takes Away What Made Skye Special
jeremycrimsonfox25 October 2020
The Paw Patrol team (which includes Everest and Tracker)are at Barkingburg to celebrate the Princess's birthday. However, the Duke of Flappington arrives, alongside his eagle Jean-Claude, and introduces himself as the Princess's cousin. However the Duke has evil intentions, as he and Sweetie team up to steal the Gem of Barkingburg, which combined with the Gem of Flappington, forms a powerful gem that has the power of levitation. Skye has to overcome her fear of eagle as she is to lead Everest and Tracker as the first responders for a Mission Paw, as they pilot supersonic jets while the others are trapped inside the castle.

Yeah, this is a neat TV film, but sadly, it's another one that has the sole purpose of introducing yet another new gimmick that will appear in the TV show so the writers can make new episodes (as well as SpinMasters making new toys to sell to kids). Also, this one focuses on Skye (as the last movie, Ready, Race, Rescue. focused on Marshall and Mighty Pups focused on Chase) and it has her conquering her fear to save the day. Also, it has the pups flying jets, which makes me not liking the gimmick somewhat, as Skye was always the air rescue pup since the series began, so it basically takes away what made her special in the first place.

However, it does do some things right. They got Everest and Tracker in, which is a rare treat, as those two are only around if the problem of the episode requires their skills, and the villain, despite falling under the usual cliché of being related to another character. is a lot better than Cheetah, as he has a better ambition that makes him a true villain. While some older Paw Patrol may not like this, it does have a good lesson about fear that kids will learn, and it is a good film for the target age group, as there is no violence (as usual with the Paw Patrol) and the rest of the team uses thinking for ideas to get out of the castle.

Leave My sight and never come within 5 miles of me! (The film not you)

I understand that this is waaaaaaaaaaaaay out of my demographic but I still have some critisms about the film. Some are unnecessary but some should probably be addressed. First off the fact that the pups get jets seems unneeded and really only for product placement(Yes I checked they sold toys for this). My second critism is the Antagonist. Okay, so this is the cousin, maybe this could highlight a family dilemma or issue which could show why he does what does. NOPE! He tries to take over the kingdom coz our paw patrol antagonists have absolutely no redeemable elements at all! Coz we here at nickelodeon like to keep it simple! Just make every villain in the factory of overused stereotypes! Give the kids something challenging for once! And that brings me to my final point: The Story. There is never a scene that I found truly deep or interesting. The whole reason kids are interested in this is because, well, its dogs in costumes and with vehicles. But Nickelodeon is just pushing franchises like this for money. Paw patrol in particular makes around 1 Billion dollars a year. I hope there will be a time where Nickelodeon chooses quality over not quantity.

My 3 year old loved it.

This is playing at cinemas here in Melbourne, Australia. After 112 days of Stage 4 COVID-19 lockdown, cinemas are showing whatever they can it seems. The last film I took my son to was Sonic The Hedgehog in February, it's November now. I fell asleep at some point in this but was woken up by my son squealing with excitement and jumping out of his seat. It stars all the pups and they have "new machines!!!" (Jets) as my son kept saying. Your kid will love it.
