Missed Opportunity
albertval-6956017 January 2023
This is a waste of star power. Kevin Bacon and Travis Kimmel can't pull off a stunt that would make the film a little likeable.

The storyline has all the makings of compelling drama centering on the relationship between estranged son and his father, and between an estranged husband and his wife and daughter. It simply lacks the gravitas to make it work. After a while, it becomes rather formulaic.

The idea of setting it on a moving bus has been done before. Remember 1994's Speed starring Sandra Bullock and Keanu Reeves? That is an example of a thriller that keeps the viewer's rapt attention all the way. With that as the standard, this film really falls short of expectations; the opportunity for a good film is squandered.

WAS HOPING FOR BETTER
buckybowen040968-15 September 2022
That's two mediocre Kevin Bacon movies in a row for me... he was great in both, the rest of the cast, not so much. The story, directing and editing was pretty b-level. I hope this isn't a dip/end to his career that has him doing "whatever" comes his way, just for money. Again, he looked great, the overall movie was just not good. I thought he was going to be a main player in the movie, he ends up on the short end. Not great for an actor that was as good as he was for as long. Hopefully he does a better job vetting the scripts that he decides to film going forward. I usually love what he does, I'd hate to see him go out on a sour note.

Pretty decent, could have been better
HorrorFilmHellion14 September 2022
To be honest, this somewhat exceeded my expectations. I thought this was going to be a total stinker, (it had the Bruce Willis vibe to the description and box cover). Knowing that Bacon was just going to be a side character for small scenes, perhaps my bar was set so low going into it that it actually didn't seem too bad. The all-around solid acting made up for many shortcomings on the technical side. Acting and actor restraint good if not great. Script pretty decent, but the technical side could have been better. By that I mean the runtime was a bit long per the total content and plot devices. In other words, it was a reeeeally long bus ride and a bit too much cell phone talking. "Action" on electronic devices (computers, tablets, phones, etc) is boring, but this didn't cross that line completely. Also, the camerawork seemed amateurish. Focal games, blurring, cascading, and finally the dreaded shaky/bouncing cam that rarely locks onto a still frame so you can focus on it. In summary, I think it was as good as it could have been for what was written, with the technical and editing work holding it back.

Good little indie surprise
searchanddestroy-19 January 2023
I was at first reluctant to the idea of watching this thriller. The topic sounded so lousy and predictable that I did not feel it at all. But a friend of mine told me to try it, because it was worth...Actually the main character, a petty thug, junkie on the run, had nothing to excit me that much...Not my cup of tea. But to please my friend, I decided to risk ninety six minutes of my precious time on this movie. And I finally did not regret it at all. You have a gorgeous female kingpin, as Kate Winslet in TRIPLE 9, who is absolutely surprising - but I know that the female badass characters is the new fashion. The directing is very professional, well monitored, the acting OK too and Kevin Bacon is also excellent in an unusual role. Not a glorious one. And the ending very unpredictable too. So, to summarize, I was damn wrong at first sight, when reading the scheme of this story. Damn wrong, my instinct, for once, failed.

Shockingly poor effort with laughable directing by Andrew Baird
monochromemurphy2 September 2022
This alleged "thriller" marks a dire sophomore effort by director Andrew Baird. Moving from his vapid rip- off of Blade Runner (ZONE 414) to a contained location movie is a bold move that backfires badly as it becomes clear he is unable to direct actors. Colson Baker (actually not bad) is fleetingly excellent and has a general charm and excitement, but clearly there was no one at the helm shaping his performance. More experienced helmers like Kevin Bacon immediately elevate interest but are running solo in a production run amok. Ben Conway's script is actually tight and interesting, but in the hands of an amateur with an unschooled talent helming the picture it falls flat. The film is a flat tire.

Why Kevin?? Why!?!
degrees-333652 September 2022
You can tell that this is going to blow w/in the first 5 minutes of the movie. Whoever was responsible for editing and cinematography here really dropped the ball - and/or is straight out of film school. It is SO poorly shot and edited that it's hard to take seriously.

I am scared to see that Kevin Bacon is in this pile.... I really don't want him to go down the road with Bruce Willis and Nick Cage and do any movie that will pay $50 and a free breakfast. Let's hope Kevin did it because he knew someone on the production or because he was stoned out of his mind when he read the script.

This was a truly, truly underwhelming film in every possible regard.

I watched the whole gritty hour and a half watching a young man clutching at straws as he is slowly dying on a bus.

The IMDb storyline reads better than the movie plays out and takes less time.. My plain and simple advice would be to read the misleading ? Storyline and look for something else to watch.

French Connection, Carlito's Way, Good Time,- talk about over-selling a terrible movie with comparisons to two classics (and Good Time)

I'm sure there will be rave reviews, saying how the actors nailed it, the director created a noir masterpiece capturing the futility of drugs, crime and the gangster life.

Just say no.

One way going nowhere...
imseeg7 September 2022
The good: they tried to make something exciting and thrilling, so I give them credits for trying, but in the end they utterly failed at making a thrilling crime story.

The bad: the story. The story is just not credible and kinda tedious, however much they have tried to make it look thrilling, the story is an empty shell.

How long can I stay interested in a character travelling on a bus? ONLY if the leading actor had been a terrific actor, this movie could have had some merit, but now it has none.

Kevin Bacon on the other hand IS a great actor and he does perform well (as usual) but he cant save this movie.

The story: a criminal has fled on a bus and now other criminals are chasing him. Lots of talk talk talk, little to none thrilling action.

A mixed bag of lost opportunities, amongst the stellar performances by Baker, Reid, Bacon and Fimmel.
Top_Dawg_Critic2 September 2022
Ngl, MGK, has earned my respect as an actor in this film. He literally held his own alongside icons Kevin Bacon and Travis Fimmel. For that matter, all casting and performances were convincing and excellent, especially Storm Reid and Luis Da Silva Jr., with only Drea de Matteo being too cliched and unconvincing as the gang leader.

Even the score for a low budget B film was on point. The cinematography however, had some issues, specifically being too dark in most of the bus scenes, and the garbled out of focus and shaky cam shots. Although a creative conceptual story with some decent twists, the writing suffered some plot and technical issues, and had too much filler for the little substance to effectively fill in the slowly paced 95 min runtime. The story had decent continuity, but also had some convoluted scenes and dialog. The ending was confusing; was it trying to be smart, or was it just convoluted. Even the constant conversations with Freddy's "conscience(?)" felt amateurish and out of place, and the cheesy directing and slow-mo and blurred shots got annoying pretty quick.

This film needed more dramatic and suspenseful content and/or a shorter runtime. All the filler added in just dragged out the film and should've been edited out, and perhaps add more needed character background and development. It's too bad this film has so many rookie-filmmaker mistakes, because with the awesome casting and performances and great conceptual story, it easily had the potential to be a great thriller. Still, a well deserved 6/10 from me for Baker's impressive performance next to two great actors.

One of those "Phone Booth" films
siderite23 September 2022
A guy is on a bus, making phone calls. There is a lot of tension, people in the bus that somehow get involved, he sitting around people that can hear him call in a bus that is totally empty, and a lot of people answering the calls. That's the whole movie.

I guess the film was constructed as an actor vehicle for Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly). Pun not intended, even if the entire film is happening on a bus. I can't say the acting or direction were particularly bad, but the film was a snooze fest with no characterization at all. I mean, the bland overused cliché of someone stealing money and coke from dangerous criminals doesn't arouse interest, especially if you care nothing for what happens to any of the people in the film. Add to this the limited background of the action and you get something really boring.

I haven't watched Phone Booth, but I heard of it when deciding not to watch it. If I knew this film was in the same vein, I wouldn't have watched it either.

Bottom line: only watch it if you like Machine Gun Kelly, as both Kevin Bacon and Travis Fimmel are supporting actors with little screen time.

Trolls hate, movie buffs appreciate!
dbhughes4 September 2022
Colson Baker (MGK) has proven that he is not only a Rap & Rock star but a serious actor as well. With films like, "The Dirt", "Captive State", "Project Power" & "Beyond the Lights", Baker proves he's no flash in the pan.

In "One Way" Baker introduces his daughter Cassie Baker (Lily) to Hollywood. While she didn't have many lines, those she delivered shows she is a serious actress. We might just be seeing the beginnings of another "Voight & Jolie".

Colson Baker has been co-starring in movies alongside mega-stars like Bruce Willis, best friend Pete Davidson, Travis Fimmel, Jamie Fox & Kevin Bacon but in "One Way" he shows he can star as lead and hold his own. I admire Bacon & Fimmel but it took me a minute to notice they were even in this movie due to the engaging, real-life acting of Baker. As with most of his movies he plays a gangster-ish street guy, but in "One Way" he proves gangsters can have a heart of gold, just like he does. You can read his Instagram to see he is a proud father so this is a movie I was looking forward to seeing and I was impressed.

Whether you watch it because you're a Travis Fimmel, Kevin Bacon or MGK fan, just watch it. Movie trolls think all movies must be blockbusters or else they get low ratings, dont let them keep you from seeing the debut of an impressive young actress, Casie Baker. Congrats Colson!

Hey, it's not that bad
zeljka-566972 September 2022
Petty criminal with bag of money and coke, sound fun, sounds like a movie we have seen so many times before, but hey, it is tv movie after all.

If you like movies that are quick, with lots of action sequences you will probably enjoy this movie enough to give it 6 or better in your review.

This is action packed movie with some drama but it is just half way entertaining. Kevin Bacon and Travis Fimmel are hollywood household names but they did NOT deliver much in this movie.

Even though there is pretty nice lineup of actors and "actor rappers" it is still just mediocre little movie, i would rate is 6/10 just because i think it had some good parts in it.

Movie One Way is released september 2nd 2022. Starring Travis Fimmel, Kevin Bacon and Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly.

To be honest i expected more from Ragnar :)

Did not make it to the end
rchevalier-373034 September 2022
There was only one surprise in the 17 minutes that I lasted into this movie and that was that Colson Baker aka Machine Gun Kelly did a better job than expected. Not a lot of depth but better than anything his girlfriend Megan Fox has ever done. Other than that what was supposed to be suspense was really just tedium. Bouncy cinematography and questionable shot angles don't help. Artsy like film school work without the experience needed to make it work. I saw no evidence of actual director work. I also don't think much of the colourist work. Too much focus on dark blue LUTS which is tiring for a viewer.

Rather slow paced action thriller...
paul_haakonsen27 September 2022
Stumbling upon the 2022 action thriller "One Way" by random chance and seeing that the movie had Kevin Bacon on the cast list, of course there was no doubt about me sitting down to watch the movie.

Needless to say that since I hadn't heard about the movie prior to watching, nor watched any trailers, then I didn't know what I was in for here, aside from "One Way" being an action thriller. And there is a lot of good action thrillers out there, so I figured that I would give writer Ben Conway and director Andrew Baird's 2022 movie a chance.

The storyline in "One Way", as written by Ben Conway, was adequate. I mean, it was a watchable movie, though you're not in for an edge-of-your-seat type of action thriller here. Nay, far from it actually, as the majority of the movie plays out while the leading actor sits in a bus and slowly bleeds out. Yeah, that was the core essence of this movie, I kid you not.

While I managed to sit through all 95 minutes that "One Way" ran for, I have to say that I was only mildly entertained. The storyline was just too mundane and slow paced, especially for an action thriller. Don't get me wrong, because "One Way" is a watchable enough movie, but just keep in mind you're not in for any kind of thrill ride.

The acting in "One Way" was good, and it was definitely that which made it a watchable movie and ensured that the movie stayed afloat for 95 minutes. I am not a particular fan of Travis Fimmel, though, and it was a shame that Kevin Bacon only had such limited time on the screen. It was nice to see Drea de Matteo in the movie, though she also only had limited screen time.

Personally I didn't find "One Way" to have much of neither action nor thriller to it.

If you enjoy action thrillers, then perhaps give director Andrew Baird's movie "One Way" a chance. You might enjoy it, but keep in mind that it is a limited script with a rather slow pacing to it.

My rating of "One Way" lands on a four out of ten stars.

meaning less
cswfq5 December 2022
I watched it for half an hour and i can't figure out what the film maker want to told me.and i can't get to know the whole story line,i think this film waste my time.at first its the man take a bus and continuely talk phone with his partner, said someone follow him,he will die bla bla bla.this seem not a full story line,it show that creater not treat this project.serious.its just a semi-finished product, and the shooting technique is so roughly that is not actually can be told as a film it seem a independent video.so i think if screenwriter can remake this film it will be better and i am willing to see this film again.

Created account to review indies
ballsofharry4 September 2022
Lets start off by stating the obvious -- clearly Andrew Baird has found a way to avoid the sales agents pretending to be film makers curse and has created ACTUAL films. Now they are flawed "Zone414" and now "One Way" but at least they are competent films! MGK was great in The Dirt and Verve with Franco so im not sure why everyone is shocked that he can act -- I'm not sure what to make of reviewers anymore there people who tell you that you cant rate a film higher than a 3 because thats what they KNOW and then there are those rating it a 10 because people gave it a "1" so I believe in general if a film is technically sound -- has a decent story -- is acted well then we should start with a 5 -- the rest is how it made you feel -- was it original and was it memorable...on those factors I grade 1 for memorable -- The images of the bus and some of the characters sticks with you once the film is done and thats the sign of a good film. So not getting into the spoilers of this movie but its a good watch --

Colson Baker and Storm Reid
ginasmithtoo3 September 2022
Colson Baker has stepped into a role that showcased his talent and Storm Reid was a perfect pair with his character. They both carried the movie well. Good movie, decent plot, some hiccups but worth watching . Anyone who says Colson Baker can't act is lying to themselves, his roles get better and better and he holds his own each time. His duo play on himself during this movie was so good and he pulled off the two characters perfectly. You have to give credit where credit is due and the guy can act. My main complaint is with the cinematography, It was just off some how. The scoring of the movie was a bit weak too. It was certainly worth the small fee I paid for sure and worth watching again.

Not a masterpiece but not a waste of your evening (if you're open-minded)
contactsteverogers26 December 2023
I am rapidly becoming a fan of Andrew Baird who can take a (very obviously) low budget and turn it into a supremely watchable 95 minutes of cinema. I actually like what I would consider the B-Movie genre because I know there are a lot of people out there who want to make a good flick but are limited by budget and time and yet can still squeeze through a bit of artistic spark that has moments of brilliance that you might not see in the 150 million dollar Marvel movie this summer. This movie doesn't amount to much in terms of story but provides good performances by the entire cast in a low-grade well-intended thriller. I've seen Colson Baker perform as Machine Gun Kelly live in concert and he is a genuinely good guy (and performer) so I'm already on board to see his acting career take off. And - credit to Baird as a director - I like movies that don't go for the loud, explosive finish but keep the tension right up to the end. I wish all of you the best - Andrew Baird, Colson Baker, Storm Reid (Kevin Bacon - LOL) - keep doing what you're doing and I will keep watching.

Wife Called It Slow
damianphelps23 June 2023
I actually enjoyed the movie despite its many flaws.

Visually the film is very bleak with grey being the predominant colour of presentation. It's use does work in some parts but it does drive the films mood down too far over a sustained period.

The film's acting is pretty poor with two notable exceptions, Kevin Bacon and MGK. They are both exceptional. The film would have been significantly better if they had shared more screen time.

Where the film really struggles is its pacing. It spends most of our time in one location and so it does get boring, making a 90 minute movie feel much longer :)

Tension on a bus
tamhill-4628421 February 2023
One Way worked out good because , the cast was small. But everyone in this film had a meaningful part of the story. The two main characters to the main extras to the casual actors . They all contributed to making this film ,. Very tension orientated.

A young man made the tactical error of stealing money. From someone that you shouldn't steal from. Stealing an amount of money may sound good, at first thought. Tactical error number 2 was looking for help from, absent father Kevin Bacon. Hoodlums, undesirables and similar types .

An enjoyable film. If you like twists,. Turns and tension. One Way is worth a watch.

I really liked it! It is super entertaining.
eleschyasilva4 September 2022
The storyline was really good and the layers to it made it even better. Freddy is such a great character & Colson and Storm are amazing at acting!

There are a lot of twists and turns in this movie and honestly, as someone who is pretty okay at predicting and expecting the next move in cinema/shows, I can successfully say I didn't do that in this movie and was genuinely surprised by many things. Especially certain parts about the ending. Well done to everyone involved!

If you're familiar with Baker's acting in other movie's, you can see how far he's coming. His acting his gotten even better with every new project he puts out. His delivery is outstanding and I need to see him in more movies!

Storm gave an amazing performance as well. She never holds back and her character's story is very tear inducing.

Straight forward
kosmasp6 August 2023
No pun intended - the movie goes one direction - and no not the band. Unless their name stands for ... but let's not even go into that. Colson Baker (aka Machine Gun Kelly) is enough when it comes to music for this movie. He is not half bad by the way - and having a stellar cast to support him (crazy that Storm Reid an adult person now can still pass through a young teen) - Kevin Bacon, Drea De Matteo and Travis Fimmel to name but a few.

This is a bit of throwback to the 90s - or at least it feels like it. You got this idea and the movie follows through on it - for better or worse. It is interesting and if you like a movie that has high stakes ... and crazy character, with a lot of twists (no all of which will make sense) ... well you could do a lot worse ...

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING
barralesdaphne3 September 2022
This movie is so well put together with being on a bus majority of the time, amazing acting, keeps you on your toes with the twists and turns, Colson Baker is such an underrated actor, he has gotten sooo good at acting and i would love to see him in more movies like this. Kevin Bacon was a great addition and played his father well. Some movies have storylines all over the place but I love how easy this was to follow and how everything connected and made sense. It's quite an accomplishment to be able to do that with a thriller like this movie, hats off to all the actors, writers, producers. I was blown away by how good this movie was. Loved the relationship between Freddy and Rachel, it really showcases Colson's love for his daughter both on and off screen. The negative reviews clearly have NO taste in good thriller movies. Give it a watch and see for yourself! 100000/10 !!!!

It's not so bad
rocioecartes6 September 2022
Was expecting it to be worse from the bad reviews on here, but I was entertained. Not the best, but also not the worst. I don't understand such low ratings, honestly. I've seen a lot worse for the rating people are giving on here. I hope to see this rating change soon, it's definitely at least a 5/10.

Colson Baker was great in this, looking forward to more from him. Hopefully he gets better roles in better films. I can see him doing great, and it was really nice to see him as the lead, finally. Also, Storm Reid is fantastic in this.

The story wasn't a bad one, just wasn't executed as great as it could have been. Needed more grit.
