Harmony between two entirely different world
pranayjalvi4 July 2022
In a year with both Mamoru Hosoda's Belle and Wit Studio's Vivy - Flourite Eye's Song, a story about a singing AI robot doesn't seem like much of a novelty. But although Sing a Bit of Harmony might struggle to stand out against its high-concept peers, it's still a sweet and funny movie which definitely proves as a crowd-pleaser.

The movie's plot is split into two halves. The first half introduces Shion to a human environment and plays out like a high school romance drama, with a familiar cast of characters with different backgrounds and personalities. The film's second half then adopts somewhat of a heist-like scenario that heightens the climactic stakes when both Satomi and Shion's safety is threatened. The tone shifts from a slow-paced high school romance to a high-impact thrill ride and successfully delivers an emotional climax.

Sing a Bit of Harmony excels in music department and the lead Tao Tsuchiya delivers an amazing singing voice for Shion. The animation by J. C Staff is worth an appreciation too. While not a traditional musical per se, the science fiction aspect of the story gives the anime film some narrative depth, sympathetic characters, and a message to think about as the technology around us becomes more advanced.

My Rating : 7/10.

A bit of wasted potential

Don't get me wrong. Sing a bit of harmony is really nice movie however you can see that it is aimed at a younger audience. The animation is good and so is the music. I am sure that this film will appeal to many younger audiences but the it has no specific message, no value. It's just fun to watch. Personally, I expected a bit more.

Really good

Warning: Spoilers
Sing A Bit Of Harmony is a 2021 Sci fi anime musical and tells the tale of a young girl named Satomi who goes to school, and meets a new girl named Shion who just transferred to Satomi's school Kelibu High School

However Satomi notices that Shion is always in a happy mood and loves singing as well as helping the rest of Satomi's school friends.

Could she be a robot being programmed by the company Satomi's mother works?.

The animation is gorgeous, the story is heartwarming and the songs are nice too. I always watch the animes in English as I prefer listening to English than it's native language Japanese.

Thumbs up.

Musical movies are a gamble
sdjmsfd22 July 2023
For those who think musical movies are all songs, I hope you will think again after watching the movie "Cats". If the movie "Cats" doesn't have a story, this work has a strange setting. The reason why we are enthusiastic about Disney animation, which is famous for its musicals, is its natural flow. The live-action version is the opposite, so this work sings out of nowhere, as if you feel a sense of difference rather than cheers. And, honestly, it's hard to visually appreciate the song settings in Android and Pretty Girl. You can see this as the human imitating the cat in the movie "Cats".

Personally, director Lee's works are good except for something important, but the important thing is strange, so the work is strange.

My 35th birthday viewing.
morrison-dylan-fan9 February 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Being fortunate to go to a number of packed Anime screenings ove the years,me and a friend decided to book several days in advance, when we found out that a new Anime was to screen at the local Vue cinema In a few days.

Going to Vue a few days later, we were shocked when we walked into the screening, and found we were the only people watching it! With the superb Anime film Memories (1995-also reviewed) having been my 34th birthday viewing, for my 35th, I got set to sing a bit of harmony.

View on the film:

Transferring with Shion to the high school, co-writer (with Ichiro Okouchi) / director Yasuhiro Yoshiura colorfully uses limited CGI to bring a depth of field immersive outline to the beautiful hand-drawn animation, with the popping out of Shion's mechanics and the psychedelia final being captured as events which stand out to the students, and thanks to the CGI,also stands out to the audience.

Gradually revealing Shion's AI origins as the school term proceeds, Yoshiura unveils the dazzling, kaleidoscope fluid hand-drawn , delicately coloured animation, which criss-crosses over genres with an astonishing ease, jumping from catchy, toe-tapping Musical numbers, to Cyberpunk race against time drizzled in psychedelia stylization.

Matching the breathless pace of the animation, the screenplay by Yoshiura & Okouchi take a thoughtful examination at free will in relation to AI, which the writers cleverly avoid from becoming too heavy, thanks to inserting it within the wider outlining of Shion's characterization, that cuts through playful high school drama and teen romance with a gaze from Shion towards her fellow students of bringing them all pure joy in their lives,as Shion sings a bit of harmony.

Fun film!

Great film, animation was spot on and the story was fun! The soundtrack was very minimal but complimented the film very well. Enjoyable by all ages in my opinion. My only downside is the pacing felt a bit off.

Amazing and emotional
TheSquareTiger15 January 2023
Warning: Spoilers
Well just watched this movie and what can I say but the fact that it was like a Disney musical and it was amazing, the movie has really amazing songs and dance and animation style is amazing, no violence other than when the guards shoot at Shion to deactivate her, movie is basically about Satomi's mother working in a company that makes AI and one morning when Satomi wakes up, she talks to the AI that protects their house and asks the AI what her mother's schedule is for that day and see's that there's a robot/AI that her mother and her co workers are working, then it goes to another scene where the AI known as Shion appears at the same school as Satomi.

I strongly recommend this anime to everyone because of how amazing it is, and as above when the movie is near the end, Satomi and her friends alongside Satomi's mother go back to the company to save Shion but as she loses battery, Touma sends her into the sky and lastly Touma and Satomi holds hands as Shion watches over both Touma and Satomi.

A Fresh, Warm and Fun Story
talking_about_movies7 January 2023
A refreshing, fun treat to watch with a heartwarming story as well as some surprises along the way. This story did not go the way I was expecting it to go, and I really enjoyed that. And it's actually very entertaining as well. There are many songs included, but they are all great. And it's one of those stories which gives a reason to almost every detail in it. And the characters were likeable as well. And the animation is very colorful as well. In many ways the movie has that Disney vibe to it.

I'd really recommend watching this movie, because it isn't that famous for some reason, and I'd say it deserves some praise.

Beautiful film
peachfuzz35729 January 2022
Another great film from Mr Yoshiura. Animation was mediocre and some shots were reused but the plot and characters were fantastic! This film was actually funny too, which is a big tick in my book. The music was okay but it complemented the plot. Totally recommend.

Her Life as A Teenage Robot
JayWolfgramm23 September 2023
The power ranking of all animated movie robots has just changed. My apologies to Wall-E, Baymax and Ron, but they are all competing for second place. The best animated robot is now Shion. This movie was a complete surprise. I had seen no promotion for it, I just stumbled upon it and thought it looked neat. On that note, I highly recommend watching this movie. Do not bother watching the trailer, the trailer gives away every major plot point of the film. Just watch the movie and enjoy every twist and turn unspoiled.

The animation is beautiful. There are some shots were likely set up solely to give the animators an opportunity to show off their skills. The voice acting across the board is perfect. Megan Shipman as Shion brings an infectious energy to the role, particularly her singing. Speaking of, yes, this is a musical and the songs for the movie are bangers. The songs will absolutely be added to my playlist.

On the downside, the movie has some very weak antagonists. Given the story, the movie didn't really need a purely villainous character, it could have just been a situational conflict. Their motivation is petty and short sighted. Thankfully they don't eat up a lot of screentime.

The movie also has a questionable concept of love. It seems to aquavit love with a light bit of stalking. And speaking of divisive lessons to learn, let's talk about the movie's view on A. I. Big corporation wish they could sell people the idea that A. I. would be this way. A. I. In this movie looks like the greatest thing to ever be made and definitely doesn't have any horrifying implications.

The morality of artificial intelligence is not what the movie is about. As much as I would love to see "Sing A Bit of Harmony 2: Judgment Day", it is about human connections and finding happiness where you are. In honor of the use of A. I. in the film. I will have my conclusion be written by an A. I.

With unwavering determination, Harmony continued to sing her heart out, uplifted by the knowledge that her music had touched the souls of many. And as she sang, she couldn't help but think that perhaps, just perhaps, she was creating a harmony that the world desperately needed.
