- Loony Lucifer and cartoon Chloe find themselves trapped in an animated loop. Amenadiel prepares for his new job. Dan returns to the city of angels.
- Lucifer and Chloe become animated in their search to find Jimmy Barnes in Hell. Meanwhile, Dan escapes Hell on a wing if not a prayer, and has a chat with his rescuer. Amenadiel undergoes his first day of training on his new job as policeman, and gets some help from Maze.—Gislef
- Linda is in her office, writing about her time with Lucifer as his therapist. Lucifer barges in and Linda quickly hides her work, and Lucifer notices and asks what she's working on. The therapist dismisses it as her "journaling", and Lucifer moves on and tells her that it's Linda's fault that her advice to him about helping someone he didn't care about was wrong.
Linda points out that she didn't say that, and Lucifer ignores her and says that he ended up caring for the person. Linda suggests that Lucifer might look to the past to get answers, and says that they met because of a case that she still doesn't know about. Since she doesn't know much about it, Linda wants Lucifer to tell her more so she can write more of her work. Lucifer talks about how Delilah was murdered and she Linda's patient, and Lucifer and Chloe met and they caught the killer, a record producer Jimmy Barnes who was trying to profit from Delilah's death. Lucifer says that Jimmy was a vile man, and then figures that it's better that he helps someone he hates and Jimmy is perfect, He leaves without giving any more details, much to Linda's disappointment.
At the station, Ella is in her lab peering at the frog, which she put in a terrarium. Lucifer comes in and Ella asks him how far he thinks a frog could fall and live. She says that she thinks the frog is tied to something soul-altering, but she hastily says that she's not ready to reveal what yet because it might her sound nuts. Lucifer doesn't care, and asks for her help finding Jimmy. Ella looks him up in the system and discovers that he died.
Chloe goes to the penthouse and suggests that she put Amenadiel's Rod back in the safe. Lucifer is busy picking out clothing for his trip to Hell to check on Jimmy. He explains that he's going to help Jimmy. Chloe insists on going with Lucifer, and Lucifer figures that it's a terrible idea. Lucifer explains that it's never been done, because mortals can't go there when they're alive. Chloe is excited when Lucifer says that Hell is dangerous, and figures the Rod should help her survive Hell. She points out that Jimmy shot her in the chest and she almost died, and she should know everything because she'; going to be God's consultant. Lucifer finally gives in and he picks Chloe up and flies go Hell.
Rory brings Dan back from Hell to the penthouse, and he immediately tries to warn Lucifer about Rory. He tells Rory that he's foiling her plan, and discovers that he's a ghost and can't touch her or anything else. Unsurprised, Rory points out that Dan is dead and thus a ghost, and she'll wait until Lucifer comes back.
In Hell, Lucifer takes Chloe to the door leading to Jimmy's Hell loop. Chloe sees Lucifer's former throne and figures that it looks lonely, and Lucifer says that it was. Jimmy's door isn't where it should be, and they look around and Lucifer finally finds it.
At the station, Amenadiel meets his new training partner, Officer Sonja Harris. Maze is there, and with Ella watches them. Ella notes that Sonja has a reputation for flunking out trainees, much to Maze's amusement. The demon tells Ella that she's there to learn what she can use to make fun of Amenadiel.
Chloe asks Lucifer how he's going to help Jimmy, and Lucifer admits that he doesn't know yet. They find Jimmy's door and they go through. They find themselves as animated characters in a cartoon, and Ella figures that the loop is different because Lucifer drove Jimmy insane. Lucifer is shocked to discover that his animated form is a "smoothie", while Chloe discovers that as an animated character she still has super-strength. They spot a wedding chapel in the distance and go to it. They find themselves at the moment Lucifer crashed Jimmy's wedding, and a cartoon devil with Lucifer's voice comes in and interrupts the wedding. Lucifer is disgusted and storms out.
Sonja and Amenadiel go on patrol, and Amenadiel talks about the human part of his backstory even though Sonja isn't interested. He tells Sonja that he's really committed, and they get a call requesting backup. They drive to the scene and find Maze scrawling graffiti. The cops on the scene toss Maze into the back of Amenadiel's patrol car.
Chloe tells Lucifer that they can't just leave, and grabs him. An animated tussle ensues, and Chloe says that the struggle makes the goal all the more worthy. Lucifer agrees and Chloe points out that the door has disappeared. Lucifer tries to summon a new one but can't, and can't feel the control he normally has in Hell. He tries to fly out but can't escape the frame borders. Chloe waits him out and confirms that she's a smoothie as well. When Lucifer stops, Chloe suggests that if Lucifer stabilizes Jimmy, he can gain control of Jimmy's Hell loop. The cartoon Lucifer goes past on his way to terrorizing Jimmy again, and they follow him figuring the loop is starting up again.
As Sofia drives away, Maze in the back compliments Amenadiel's fighting prowess. Amenadiel tells Sofia that it's some kind of plan by Maze to make him look good, and she seems harmless. Sofia says that once a criminal, always a criminal, and Amenadiel tells her that he would never think that way. The officer says that she hopes so and drops Maze off at a women's shelter. Maze complains that Sofia isn't tough, and Sofia tells Amenadiel that it's police work.
The cartoon Lucifer interrupts Jimmy's wedding again, telling Jimmy that he's holding his bride back. Lucifer and Chloe interrupt and Chloe beats the devil up and Lucifer enjoys himself watching. Chloe easily beats up her opponent, while Lucifer discovers that the whiskey in his flask has been replaced with apple juice. Jimmy tells Lucifer that Lucifer ruined his wedding, and Lucifer asks if his interrupting Jimmy's sham wedding was the worst thing that ever happened to him. Lucifer tells Chloe that they need to go deeper and find the source of Jimmy's problems, and uses his soul gaze on Jimmy. Lucifer and Chloe find themselves in a street in L.
Dan figures that once Lucifer gets there, he says that Lucifer is the most powerful being in the universe. Rory reveals her blood-red metal razor-wings, and Dan says that he realized Lucifer is a good guy. He suggests that they talk about Rory's pain, and Rory asks Dan how he almost killed Lucifer. Dan says that he's there to listen, and Rory turns on some music for him to listen to.
The Hell LA street is filled with vandals and street musicians, and is very 80s. Lucifer and Chloe's genitals are back, but Lucifer still can't control the loop. The storefronts have no doors, and Lucifer spots Jimmy walking down the street. They follow him into a store that becomes a recording studio, and Jimmy meets with the band he's representing, Wednesday's Child, that are going platinum. Lucifer finds and pockets some cocaine, while Jimmy offers a toast to the band's success.
The leader, Todd, tells Jimmy that he's fired because he's too mainstream, and the band wants to make real music. When Todd tells Jimmy that he's holding them back, he briefly turns into a woman with a guitar who says the same thing. Chloe and Lucifer remember that the devil said the same thing at the wedding, while Jimmy storms out in anger. The duo go after him.
In his nearby room, Jimmy is on the phone spreading rumors about the band that they're frauds and he left them. His girlfriend woman in the dressing room, Sphinx, overhears and tells Jimmy that what he's saying isn't true. She says that Jimmy needs to call them back, and he tells Sphinx that he deserves better than her. Jimmy orders Sphinx out, and she briefly turns into the woman again. Lucifer realizes what's going on, and Jimmy sees the duo for the first time.
As Jimmy backs away, Lucifer explains that Jimmy is afraid of being abandoned so pushed Sphinx away before she could abandon him. Jimmy figures people only want money and fame from him, and Chloe suggests that's all he ever offered. Lucifer uses his soul gaze on Jimmy, who says that he doesn't want "her" to go, and then Lucifer tells Jimmy to go after her. Jimmy turns and leaves.
Chloe points out a door that has appear on the wall. They open it and find Hell beyond, but Lucifer points out that they still don't know who the woman is or what's at the heart of Jimmy's torment. He figures that he has to see it through and takes Chloe's hand.
A young Jimmy is in his bedroom watching cartoon on TV. The woman--Jimmy's mother Nancy--comes in and tells Jimmy to watch his cartoons and everything will be fine, and she'll be right back. The mother picks up her guitar and goes out. A man is waiting for her, and tells Nancy that Jimmy is only holding her back.
Chloe figures that Nancy never came back, and Lucifer figures that Jimmy felt alone. Child Protective Services eventually come and take the protesting Jimmy away, as he rather wait for Nancy,. Lucifer tells them to stop and they freeze, and Jimmy goes back to watching his cartoons. His control over the loop restored, Lucifer sends the agents back the way they came. Lucifer then tells Jimmy that only Jimmy can get himself out of Hell, and that he sees the pain behind the terrible decisions Jimmy made in life, even if Lucifer figures what happened doesn't excuse him. Chloe says that the cartoon are Jimmy's comfort, and a lifeline for when he's scared..
Lucifer uses his control to rewind the cartoons on the TV and bring sunlight to the dark room. Nancy comes back and watches cartoons with Jimmy. Lucifer figures that the new loop will have to suffice so Jimmy doesn't lose his mother.
Chloe and Lucifer emerge from the cell back into Hell proper, and Chloe tells Lucifer that she has to see Dan before they go. Lucifer leads her to the station simulation, but Dan isn't there. As they go, Lucifer says that now he cares about Jimmy and he's learned to care about anyone, so he can help anyone and be God. Lucifer looks around and realizes that Dan is gone.
Amenadiel finds Maze drinking at the bar in Lux, and says she could have screwed everything up for him. Maze figures that she's the reason Amenadiel passed Sofia's "reverse psychology test". Amenadiel says that Sofia is trying to find people who are in it for the right reasons, and wonders why Maze thought he couldn't handle himself. Maze insists that she was trying to help him, and Amenadiel wonders why she cares. The demon finally says that she's his friend, and sarcastically says that she's sorry she didn't do it in Amenadiel's ideal way. Amenadiel thanks her and tells her that being a policeman is really important to her. She agrees not to make fun of him, but Amenadiel jokingly doesn't believe her
As LL takes the elevator up to the penthouse, he calls Chloe and says that he checked the Silver City and Dan isn't there, either. When Lucifer arrives, he sees Dan waiting for him. Rory emerges from the insubstantial Dan and attacks Lucifer, shoving him against the wall and revealing her wings to cut him. She says that she'll have her revenge after years hating him for what he did to her, and Lucifer tells Rory that he has no idea who she is. Rory says that she's Lucifer's daughter.
