Machinima At It's Very Finest
Brooksey22014 April 2009
'Red vs Blue: Reconstruction' is set a year after the events of 'Red vs. Blue: The Bloodgulch Cronicles'. For those not familiar with RvB, let me take a moment to explain; The plot revolves around two factions at War, one Red and one Blue (Hence the name.) These hapless soldiers have just ended their campaign against one another at Bloodgulch ending in a tactical stalemate, and the canyons inhabitants are relocated to other outposts. Reconstruction follows Agent Washington (who some may recognise from 'Recovery One') as he continues his quest to stop the mysterious and extremely dangerous entity known only as 'The Meta.' Command hires Washington to track down some so-called 'Experts' on the matter, not realising that these experts are the former inhabitants of Bloodgulch.

From here on the hilarity ensues, although not quite as 'Laugh a Minute' as 'The Bloodgulch Cronicles', it certainly delivers in every category that any Machinima enthusiast looks for. This 19 episode series is far more professional, far more dark and far more entertaining than it's near-perfect predecessor (Which is certainly saying something.) Ingenious writing from Burnie Burns ensures that Reconstruction is a roller coaster ride of hilarity and creativity with a far better plot and purpose than 'The Bloodgulch Cronicles', even with some of the main cast missing (or presumed KIA) it still doesn't prevent this from being a far superior sequel. Most fan favorates make a welcome return; my personal favourite Sarge, the lazy loudmouth Grif, the shameless suck up Simmons, the foul tempered Church and the lovable moron Caboose.

The series adopts a far more serious approach, which is fine if you don't mind humour taking more of a backseat to plot and character development. Creating a series so different from it's previous instalments is a masterstroke in my opinion. It did not copy the original nor did it simply leech off it, Reconstruction is what it is, and this is the perfect way to keep RvB fresh and original, rather than cliché and boring. The amazing editing that the Roosterteeth crew use is just fantastic (see Reconstruction episode 2 for reference) this means the despite Halo 3's limitations, Roosterteeth can add that extra flare to their creations. With top Voice Acting, top cinematography and top writing, Reconstruction is an absolute must-see, hilarious and thrilling, the latest RvB adventure will have you hooked until the massive and unexpected climax with two huge twists along the way, you can't afford to miss it.

Easy 10/10, and I leave you with a quote from Grif to the firing squad:

  • Firing Squadron: "Any last requests?"

  • Grif: Well how about for starters you suck my-" (Simmons interrupts)

*Defiantly helps if you see 'The Bloodgulch Chronicles' before this, the plot will be far too complex for most to pick up, and it makes those final episodes that much more special*
