Marriage is a two-way street. You and the one you love have to be able to see things eye to eye, understand each other, respect each others' feelings even if you don't agree with them personally. When your marriage faces turmoil, it's a true test of its strength, and a test of how much you're willing to fight for it. George and Jane Jetson get a real test in their marriage as they learn the man who married them way back when was a fraud. Will they stick together or take advantage of their newfound single lives? Will the show still be called The Jetsons or just plain Jetson? Let's find out.... Tonight was a very special night. The wedding anniversary of George and Jane. While waiting for the second guest of honor, Jane, the kids and Astro decided to dance to her favorite song. Yes, it was going to be a special, magical evening...for Jane. For George, oblivious to the goings on wanted nothing more than to kick back and watch the game. He arrives home to festivities and can't figure out why everybody is celebrating and what it is they're celebrating. That's right, the big jerk forgot their anniversary. An emotional Jane bursts into tears, and as Judy consoles her, Jane recounts back when she decided to go steady with George. It was around 17 years ago, they were in college and Jane had her eyes on two guys- George Jetson, and a big, hunky stereotype named Flash Flotsam. Flotsam and Jetson, get it? Well, Flash takes Jane to dinner that night and, disguising himself as a clumsy waiter and learning to become afraid of men named Francois and Flash, George sweeps Jane off her feet and they jump off the restaurant balcony. No, they didn't commit suicide. George's car had a whistle-summons so it broke their fall. So they got married, and nine months later, Judy was born.
Now, 17 years later the magic seems to be fading... but that wasn't half as bad as what happened next: while George watches the game, a news flash breaks in and announces the arrest of a man wanted for fraud. A genuine impersonator. He even impersonated the minister that married George and Jane. So...they were not legally married, and Elroy and Judy are bastards. Well they all blame George for this for some reason, Judy takes an out-of-line shot at her father, and everything seems to be spiraling south. But George, trying to keep levelheaded suggested they go to Las Venus and get married the next day. So they head out, George feigning illness to Mr. Spacely to get out of work, and they arrive in Las Venus. Jane takes her own room and George hangs around the lobby when suddenly who should he run into but...seriously, take a guess who he runs into! Well, it seems the boss wanted to get away for the weekend too. In trying to hide from him, George ends up becoming Spacely's clumsy bellhop. Spacely recognized the voice, but could not place it. Thankfully he's a dummy; Elroy happens to catch Jane with another man... it's Flash Flotsam, seventeen years older, and still has the hots for Jane. Elroy tells his father and it's deja vu to the rescue! George disguises himself as a clumsy waiter, meets up with Francois and the maitre'd, and once again sweeps Jane off her feet, they slip on spilled soup and fall off the balcony. Now what? Plunge to their deaths, knowing love will prevail, even in purgatory. No, don't worry, they don't die. Fortunately Judy paid attention to Jane's story so she and Elroy flew the car directly underneath them and it was a good catch. They quickly head to the wedding chapel, get hitched legally, and all was well again. George runs into his boss again, but luckily Jane was there to bring up Mr. Spacely's boss (his wife), so he kept quiet and picked up the Jetsons' tab. Flash, on the other hand, has had a genuine change of heart and lets George and Jane use his suite, where they happily begin their honeymoon.
Good episode. Sure they used two old, overused plots about the husband forgetting the anniversary and something happens to show they were never legally married or something...but for what it is, this episode delivers. As for Flash, this type of character appears frequently. He's in "Instant Replay" though under the name Bunky Binxton. As for his voice, he sounds like the offspring of Jim Backus and Richard Haydn.
