The Spies Who Lied To Me
Park_Min14 February 2024
Although its earlier parts were better than the rest but the initial set up needed more time and thoughts to be put into it. They wanted to kick start the premise quickly but they rushed things along the way which made later parts to drag instead of having a better investment at the start. The first 5-6 episodes kept you interested and had a good amount of intrigue but things slowed down significantly after that and it began to lose its attraction even when Derek began to be involved in the story heavily. They had a lot of elements lined up perfectly to create something good but never committed to one theme. Derek was an interesting addition to the dynamic but his character was never consistent, his character was forcefully bent 3-4 times to fit whatever narrative the writer wanted to steer the story towards. This also affected how the triangle played out. Again, they had a lot of time to better allocate and divide the runtime to make it more natural. There were a few attempts where the drama tried to get preachy and profound with dialogue and inner-monologue but once you zoom out it turned out to be condescending nonsense. I would say the drama was partially fun but not all the way.

It gets better

Well the first episode didn't promise too much, but then boom! this starts to get surprisingly fun and entertaining to watch with some pretty action scenes. I can't quite understand why it's so underrated. 5.8 stars, really?

Not Good Enough

Warning: Spoilers
Korean Drama " The Spies who loved me " sounds a bit like the American movie, and has more interesting aspects, but it's messy and doesn't serve the plot well.

The drama juggles two themes: the mysterious case of the leading lady's best friend, and the game of temptation and lies between the two ex spouses and the two current spouses. For the mystery, it was okay, enough thrilling to keep things interesting, and with plenty of action and players. The bromance helped here as well, adding humor to the plot. However, the leading lady turning out to be a super spy was a bit off and sudden. As for the romance, it was odd because of the pacing. The drama went back and forth on whom it supported as the love interest. For once, it made it clear that the leading lady was still not over her ex and that it was possible for them to get back together, when, at the same time, it promoted the current husband as the perfect man for her, a man who loved her more than her ex. And, finally, they did the complete messed up thing of confusing their characters even more with that ending.

Other than that, the performances were great and the action scenes well orchestrated. But, the drama got boring at times, especially towards the ending.

So, overall, 4.5 out of 10.

I don't know why this drama is under rated! It was quite enjoyable for me. I didn't get bore for a single time. It was filled with funny moments, romance and of course thrill! Hope to get more dramas like this one..

Bad and ridiculous story

I was watching this show only for lim juhwan. From the start, show was good acting was also good. Lim juhwan's acting was on upper level as his acting in "game towards zero". But i did not digest the things between female lead ( yo inna) and his ex husband (eric mun). I realy did not like this story line What a pathetic and absurd story line? Why writer made her 2nd husband (present loving and caring) soooooo bad character. I think writer is Forcefully giving the present husband (lim juhwan) a bad character and why writer choose ex-husband for good character.

Chemistry between yo inna and lim juhwan was great. At the end of the show a loving, caring and understanding husband forcefully made a bad character.

There was no happy ending for derek(lim juhwan). Justice for derek hyun(limjuhwan).

Fantastic & Exciting Drama with Great Casts and Intriguing Plot

The Spy Who Loved Me is an awesome drama to watch. I am someone who usually do not write reviews, but I feel that I have to because this drama is so underrated. It deserves a much higher rating! I started to watch this because of Eric Mun. He is one of my favourite actors and his acting has never once failed me. The chemistry between Ah Reum, Ji-Hoon and Derek is sooo good. There are a lot of suspense, thrill, mystery, action and funny scenes that leave me looking forward to the next episode all the time. The romantic scenes leave my heart fluttering and sometimes I feel sad for Ji-Hoon and Derek. Their Bromance scenes are super hilarious. It made me fall deeply in love with both Eric Mun and Lim Ju-hwan. Do watch out for Eric and Ju-hwan cool action (fighting) scenes!

Their acting and plot are so perfect that I am so drawn into the world of industrial espionage since the first episode! I am now in episode 12 watching on IQiYi and so far I could not find any flaws in the drama. It is just fantastic. There are no draggy scenes and I am super excited to move on and find out the ending. I felt like I embarked on a roller-coaster ride since episode 1 onwards.

I hope Ah Reum reunites with Ji-Hoon because Ji-Hoon genuinely loves her and he did whatever he can to protect her until the end. Last but not least, this drama's OST is damn good, addictive and sentimental! I love DOKO's Seeing You Again, Baek A Yeon's Wherever & Jung Hong Hwa's Shall We Kiss. I am going to re-watch again many times because this spy themed drama is so beautiful! If this drama is available on VIU or NetFlix, the ratings will definitely soar high. I can vouch for that. I have never watched any spy-themed drama before. This is the drama that caught my attention, and I totally fall in love with it. It is really WORTH-WATCHING! :)

100% a MUST-WATCH Rom-Com drama.
