It's difficult to review season 4 of Fargo as you inevitably judge it based on the previous seasons.
Season 1 and 2 were sublime, some of the best television ever made in my opinion. I enjoyed a lot of season 3 but didn't feel it was as strong. Much like season 3, season 4 is not as good, but it is still great television and superior to much of what is around at the moment.
The story is a slow burn one but takes enough twists and turns to keep you invested. Stand out performances for me were Jessie Buckley, Jason Schwartzman and Timothy Olyphant. It was also nice to see Chris Rock in a serious role, he's a good actor.
It might not be for everyone but I for one applaud the show runners for trying something new with every season. There aren't many series that are committed to reinventing themselves from one season to the next while keeping that general feel that made the film and the series so distinctive and wonderful.
Long live Fargo.
