Beautiful and original but the end is disastrous
hanalisss8 December 2020
What an amazing and refreshing drama! Original idea and I actually loved the personality of the characters. Not your typical script, I was enjoying it a lot until the last episode, what were they thinking with that ending?!? Felt so rushed, illogical and stupid, I am so shocked, it was going so well and then they completely messed it up! Such a shame, it could have been awesome.

Break out the tissues for the latter half - if you don't do sad well, parts of this will make you cry buckets
leahcubed27 December 2021
Warning: Spoilers
7.5/10 is my rating. This is a 2020 South Korean romantic comedy drama series with 16, 60 minute episodes.

Goo Ra-ra (Go Ara) seems to have the world at her feet as an heiress to a cosmetics company whose father dotes on her. On her wedding day, her world falls apart when her father suddenly diesd, on his way to the wedding, from a heart attack. Her father's secretary encourages her to go into hiding as her father was going through a bankruptcy (which Ra-ra did not know) and the creditors would be looking for her. With nowhere to go, she decides to meet a fan who encouraged her piano playing but winds up in an accident with bicyclist, Sunwoo Joon (Lee Jae-wook). Joon is barely injured but Ra-ra injures her hands and is helpless in the hospital. The two bond as Joon icannot leave a damsel in distress even if the damsel is a cute but overly needy ex heiress. With no-one left and being quite helpless, Ra-ra appeals to Joon to give her a place to stay and help her get on her feet with the promise that she will pay it all back. Cold on the outside but warm and caring in reality, Joon cannot say no to someone so clearly in need. When he finds out she is a pianist, and seeing it as a way for her to support herself, Joon builds Ra-ra a space within his space to have a piano school called "La La Land". Joon and Ra-ra become an integral part of the small community they are in, Eunpo City, and form form friendships and develop surrogate families. There is a deeper story behind Joon and Ra-ra's connection and it slowly comes to light that the accident was not their first meeting. There are also reasons Joon holds people at arms length and indicates he has no family.

At the start of this, I loved the energy of Ra-ra and how her engaging personality made people want to help and do things for her. Jun was the complete opposite and people were drawn to him because he was incredibly handsome but had a brooding cold exterior. Those that got to know him a little better, quickly realized he was actually very warm and giving. Watching the energetic and irrascible Ra-ra hammer her way into Jun's cold exterior was entertaining to say the least. I loved them as a couple because their personalities were so complimentary - each providing what the other lacked. The relationship Ra-ra developed with Jin Sook-kyeong (Ye Ji-Won), a single mother who owned the beauty shop next door and Jin Ha-yeong (Shin Eun-soo), who become her best/friend little sister substitute was so heart warming. Sook-kyeong became the mother figure Ra-ra never had. There were lots of plot twists and intriguing incidents to keep things going and keep the viewer engaged and I thouroughly enjoyed the majority of the series. Had it continued on that trajectory this would have been in the 8.5/9 range out of 10 for me. **Spoiler Altert** What nearly ruined it for me was the last couple of episodes. First there was the standard trope where he crushingly breaks up with her and is with another girl and you suspect it has something to do with his mother and her aspirations for her son's marriage. We have all been through that one if we have watched very many dramas and know that typically resolves as he simply refuses to live (often quite literally in starvation strikes etc.) without her. And this resolved as well and they were back together and things were cruising on toward the final episode. Then we find out, at the nth hour, he has leukemia. And I had a horrible feeling at that point it just wasn't going to end well. It would be some kind of "better to have loved and lost then never to have loved at all" kind of nonsense. He makes the very uncharacteristiclly selfish decision to hide his illness from the majority of his friends and her and makes up an excuse that he is going to the States to study and has no idea when he will be back if ever. And she actually puts up with that and rekindles her romance with him remotely. She is all geered up for him to finally come back to South Korea for a visit and her and all his friends throw a party and are all excited but he never shows. Then there is the excuse he couldn't come because of his flight being cancelled. It is a crushing disappointment and made my heart very sad for her. Then his mother shows up looking very sad and there are some heart warming moments when she apologizes to her for being awful to her and thanks her for bringing joy into her sons life. Then she tells her June is never coming back because he had leukemia and died. I think I just about cried my eyes out. I was so angry I declared that the show was a zero. How could they build us up with this beautiful romance and then just kill him? After that it shows everyone moving on with their lives and she is around pretending to be happy but you can see she is still just incredibly sad. Then, wham, guess what - he isn't dead after all but FIVE YEARS later he comes back, fully recovered, to get his girl. She doesn't believe it at first. Are you a ghost? And, I have to say, by this time I am with her. What the heck are they putting us through now. Nope, it's him. His only excuse is he didn't want her to have to see him sick and didn't want to come back until he was fully recovered. She cries some more (he makes fun of her for crying) and she pummels him with her tiny fists. And I guess that was supposed to be the happily ever after. Okay but I am still pissed at him for putting our girl through emotional hell. I think, if you love someone, you give them a choice whether to be by your side or not. To keep her in the dark and make her think he had died was emotional cruelty. It would ruin the trust you would have with that person. For a girl who had lost her mother, and her father, and her entire life - for her to think she lost him for so long was really devastating. I do not, at all, like sad movies or series. I can handle a little saddness as long as it is not too long or a significant portion of the show, or ends sad. But, this one, the happy ending was only minutes and the sad part was much, much longer. I do not recommend this for anyone that is an empath or who deeply feels sad movies or series. If you don't mind saddness, then this is, overall, a very good series. I would not personally rewatch it, because of the overwhelming sadness I felt, but it is complex enough you would catch additional things on a rewatch.

Just don't watch the last ten minutes
iangoldsmith-6778024 October 2021
It's a good series, funny, moving etc., everything you want in a k-drama, but those last ten minutes! What we're they thinking?! The last ten minutes we're about as unbelievable as the random appearance of a grand piano on the beach.

The perfect rom-com that kills itself
kunagueroooooo19 April 2022
I've decided to split this review into two parts. Part 1 about episodes 1 - 15. Part 2 about episode 16.

Part 1 Excellent 9.5 out of 10. A real rollercoaster of a ride. Every single actor/actress played their parts to perfection, from the 6 year old boy all the way through to the 80 year old gent. If you like a good tearjerker story with funny elements, sprinkled with lots and lots of happiness this is the drama for you. The lead actress (Go Ara) who plays Goo Ra Ra is such a delight to watch, she plays the part like it was her last ever job. The lead actor (Jae-Wook Lee) who plays Sunwoo Joon (Jun) only has the one expression but its an absolute winner. The supporting cast do their upmost to stay as good as the lead two and do an admirable job.

The story is of an heiress to a very large cosmetics company but unfortunately it hits very bad times and closes its doors. At the same time her father passes away. So her fathers secretary informs her to go into hiding so the creditors don't take everything from her. Unfortunately a flat purchase goes horribly wrong and she ends up penniless.

She goes away to Eunpo and meets by accident (literally) a depressed young man who goes out of his way to help her in every situation. Over the course of the drama they fall in love.

It might sound like every other romantic drama but this is a must watch, you will fall in love with everyone.

Part 2 Terrible 1 out of 10. The 1st 45 minutes would deserve a 7 out of 10 because the actors did a stellar job. But the last 15 minutes drags that 7 out of 10 kicking and screaming down to a 1. It is the worst ending any drama has ever had. This makes the Dallas shower scene actually believable, it's that bad. DO NOT WATCH IT.

A Sweet Story with a Sour Ending
tk-1823129 January 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Overall I really enjoyed this Kdrama. I'm a sucker for heartfelt moments and this one had plenty. I have to admit the plot and timing were a little off even in the first few episodes but the fact that this series was about music, and better yet Piano! I was drawn in.

The acting was on point. All the actors were amazing and really brought their characters to life. I fell in love with all of them and they made me want to watch more. Truthfully, if the acting wasn't so good I would've given a lower rating.

Rara and Jun's relationship is so cute and romantic and innocent. I was happy to see how things were revealed with Jun being Mr Twinkle all along :)

But. And a big BUT. I agree with others that the last 3-4 episodes didn't really make sense. I was completely heartbroken at the storyline. All of a sudden Jun gets really ill, but does it have to be this big secret? And the last episode. Wow. I cried so much I couldn't breathe and then Jun returns after 5 years?! Of course I'm glad he's still alive (happy ending after all!) but the way this was given to us was so cruel. After all that pain and heartache and tears. I understand it kinda follows the 5 year waiting that Mr Kim had with his wife. But this was just too confusing and abrupt. And I think the drama would've been so much better had Jun told Rara about his illness at the cafe when she finally learns who he is. So yes, it's a sour ending for me because I was left feeling totally numb and this bitter aftertaste is sadly lingering.

I was going to recommend this drama to more people but not sure if I will now... I regret telling my sis to watch it (she's yet to finish it and see the ending!)

Such a beautiful series, but the end...???
mlhorth19 February 2021
This was the 2nd K-drama series that I watched and I absolutely loved it right up to 1/2 way through the last episode. I don't understand the ending. It felt like an exec lost a bet and and had to go with the worst ending option on the table. Nevertheless, the cast had fantastic acting skills, especially Jae-Wook Lee and Go Ara. I was hysterically crying and then having those happy memorable moments constantly as the story developed. Such a great intricate storyline that kept you engaged with trying to put all the pieces together. Just when you thought you had it all figured out, they would throw you a curveball and you had to start over from scratch. Great series overall and I would highly recommend it. I just wish they would redo the ending in order to maintain the integrity of the characters' depth and actors' talents. To be honest, it felt like the actors couldn't believe the ending themselves.

Suffered From Some Odd Writing Choices But Still Good
fake_moviestar3 September 2021
This show was definitely a mixed bag. I feel like the writers sort of wanted to "stick it" to the viewers by making this show "unpredictable," which it certainly was, but not necessarily in a good way. Some of the choices of the characters and the story line definitely felt a little disjointed, and I think it was because of this reason. The first 10 episodes of this show were fantastic, with a really great cast of likeable characters, a lovely soundtrack, great acting by actors who could actually play the instruments, and an engaging story. I think Jun's "secret" sort of felt hyped up but ended up being not too terrible, and then there was a definite lull in the show before picking up for the last two episodes. I feel like the writers should have stuck with the original ending and had the guts to leave things the way the viewer thought they were going without throwing a last minute change in at the end.

That being said, I do think it's worth a watch. The piano playing scenes are gorgeous and full of poignant meaning, and most of the story is well done. Were there some things I disliked? Yes, but the show is still good enough and deserves a watch. I give it a 7.5 because the good definitely outweighs the bad!

MUST WATCH IF YOU WANT A QUALITY ROMCOM SERIES
iambrutallyfrank8 October 2020
RaRa (Go ARa) and Jun (Lee Jae Wook) have undeniable chemistry in Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol and they portrayed their respective roles amazingly! The first episode made me cry with all the touching moments of RaRa with her father and made me laugh by RaRa's innocent beauty and positive aura while my heart fluttered with how Jun looked at her. I watched it thrice and I know I will keep doing so in each episode because I could not get enough of them. In the second episode tonight, I laughed really hard at RaRa's quirkiness and innocence. I appreciate Jun and Dr. Cha (Kim Joo Hun) concern towards RaRa and I could not wait for the next episode because of the last scene. Wondering what? Watch it! I assure you, this series will make you happy.

God bless everyone and stay safe always!

This could have been a 10

Warning: Spoilers
Spoiler alert

This could have been my favorite mini series but everything was ruined in the last episodes.

How did they come up with such a bad end? It doesn't make any sense. The whole cancer thing was not necessary and leaving her to think for 5 y that he was dead to just come back with no explanation... one of the worst endings I have ever seen.

Sweet story, but bad ending
blebbe10 October 2021
This show has a lot of potential. It's heartfelt and romantic. But towards the end the plot started to break and the show became messy. The twist at the end was unnecessary and a bit too soapy. All in all, it was still a decent series.

How a 10 star rating dropped to a 5 due to the last 4 episodes
benigee27 November 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I loved the chemistry between the 2 main actors and was hooked immediately. Loved how Jun cared for all of his friends past and present. How he loved Ra-ra and helped her through every hardship she endured. How their love even through the secrets, parental involvement and the revealed age difference endured. They were so supportive of each other and their extended family. And then the writer's had a brain lapse or brain hemorrhage I am not sure which. Then young man who was so supportive and lifted up his first love so often doubted she could "handle" his becoming ill and refused to tell her when her love could have helped him deal with the problems. "He didn't want her to see him during his illness" when she had already seen him in so many other serious situations??? Really!!! And after we all cried our eyes out as the story progressed and Ra-ra is dealing with the emotional roll coaster of his death (which his mother informed her of, I am sorry, no mother whose son is in treatment would lie about his death to a woman who loved him) he shows up 5 years later saying he was considered cured and he could return to her. If this is how the writers feel those with a major illness should treat those they love just to make the story have a happy ending then those writers need to find new careers. Also after finding out he has lied about something so serious and devastating to Ra-ra she just gets a little angry, again I am sorry but that is such a flip in the both of these characters previous demonstrated personalities that I wandered through my home discussing how disappointed I was with my pets. Sad way to ruin what could have been the number 2 series I have watched in 2020. So sad and so disappointing.

I don't think it could have been better, even if they tried
Chaokage11 January 2021
The tone of this series is pretty much the same throughout the whole series. Nothing special about it in any aspect. Felt like an everyday life story that was not worth telling unfortunately. They even messed up the last ark of the series by going a road they shouldn't even stepped on. The ending was even worse. It Lacked any logic whatsoever.

A painful yet heartwarming pilot episode!
Go_Ara_fighting8 October 2020
Warning: Spoilers
I waited for this drama for more than half a year and sad that it was delayed due to CoVid case, but the long wait is worth it! Following the articles and interviews prior the first broadcast I heard the goal of this drama is to feel and heal the pains - I guess the first episode has already achieved this goal. One moment you feel like you want to cry but the humor are always in timing that the sadness becomes a smile as a viewer.

I am also happy to see Ara finally gets a role to showcase her piano abilities. Yes, FINALLY!

The visuals are fantastic. It added to the warmth of the drama. What can I say that this ensemble I already loved even before the drama begins.

At the end of Episode 1 Epilogue, I am with RaRa's father yelling "Bravo!"

Great job, DoDoSol!

A cute slice-of-life with a horrific ending
RomanceNovelist16 October 2023
I really enjoy this story. And I think the male lead really made this story fantastic. The strong silent type who is overprotective of his lady love and simply wants to provide for her. Unraveling his mysterious background and his story made this love story all the more appealing. The lady love Ra-ra was ridiculous. She was ridiculous because she was below average intelligence. And that's putting it nicely. Her lack of intellect was so off-putting but she had a charm about her which was sadly quite infantile. Still, I was able to enjoy the story for the main male lead actor and the second male lead actor were both appealing gentlemen. Rara and the teenage girl were a bit annoying at times but overall, I still found Ra-ra somewhat likeable, I just found her dumbness annoying. She had zero life skills and it took a young man who is her Junior and significantly younger than her to help her survive. Which really was pathetic but at the same time romantic. In one scene he even indicates to one person that his lady love wasn't that bright. But she was bright in spirit and talented , which cheered everyone up who was around her.

The last half hour of the final episode was horrific. And I mean this is the worst ending in kdrama history. I doubt very seriously that there is another show that could surpass how absolutely abysmal and how utterly dumb the ending was. The show has its charms and I would have given the show and eight, possibly higher, but I deducted a point for that ending. I was so appalled. I noticed that k-dramas have a tendency of not ending their shows well but this one took the cake.

Great episodes but leading to the ending, the plot doesn't make sense..
sensui2820 December 2020
Warning: Spoilers
The ending is similar to Descendants of the Sun but in this case Jun's illness popped out of nowhere. There were many story lines like the stalker guy, the ex-husband, secretary moon, doctor cha's pills and dodosolsollalasol that had potential. The writers could have been more creative with those and extend it until the end. The plot leading to the last episode just doesn't add up.

The piano scenes could have been more realistic.

Though I love the characters and their dynamics. One of the reasons why I watched until the end.

A Must Watch - Full Of Joy
purwoevi2 November 2020
The story was so nice and smooth...it's not painfull to see how all the cast doing great job in one drama's. A harmony of the story line was amazing. Hope this drama's can make our happy and smile until last episode. When all k-drama recently talk about cheating, depression, zombie, ghost, technology or fight, Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol comes with new light story, this is make viewer like me so happy. With world with cynical and strugle because of pandemic, this drama's make us smile and relaxed fora moment. Go Ara portray Gu Ra Ra very well, Gu Ra Ra self make everyone around her happy and helpfull to her without consent because of her personality, that's was incredible people. Maybe in real life, we can't find kind people like that, but what's not to start believe all people have positive in they self and we can help people without asking 'why?' The writer-nim of Do Do Sol Sol La La Sol tell the story so well, the cast in every age play a role in their genertion, it's not to much. So...waiting for the story goes from conflict wich may also be less ( not emotionally draining conflict ). For last...this drama a must watch for family and make everyone enjoy.

Charming, calming and cute
hiepph6 December 2020
I'm not a fan of K-drama and came to this show because it relates to the piano and proposes an exciting plot: piano saves you in the darkest time of life. The story did revolve around the piano, but it's mainly about the people and love (as expected from a K-drama). So if you're looking for a piano-centered story, you should not have high hope. I found some new favorite pieces from this series (A Maiden's Prayer, Je te veux), though. Overall, the series is cute and calming. It has sad moments but not so heartbreaking. Prepare yourself to be lied a lot.

Warning: Spoilers
I loved this show! It was lovely, warm hearted, full of joy and the music was amazing! Go Ara is an accomplished pianist so it made the show all the more believable. Then came the last episode and, what the heck??? Nothing made sense, no matter how you look at it. Last episode was a train wreck. What were the writers thinking? At least do you due diligence and try to learn how leukemia is treated, the success rate, and how long people can live. Loved every episode but this was the most frustrating ending ever!

Don't watch the last 10 minutes
papasfritasjajaja29 January 2023
Why? You don't to know it. Just don't do it. You are going to get disappointed a lot and all the good things in the kdrama are going to turn into nothing. You can see that the actors transmit you really good things, since the beginning and throughout the serie. You can connect with the actors too well at the point of feeling that WOW "this is a very romantic story" and it absolutely is. The main female character can make you feel a lot stressed at the beginning but you will love her. The secon characters are okay too. But it is justa that end chapter what let me unsatisfied and very sad. Don't watch the final and you will love it. I can assure it.
