Doesn't soar as highly as it could have done, but doesn't crash to a thud either
'The Pink Panther' "Jet Pink" (1967)
Opening thoughts: With 'Jet Pink' comes the first disappointing 1967 Pink Panther cartoon. By all means, it is a long way from terrible and doesn't crash to a thud, in fact it is pretty decent. It just doesn't soar as highly as it could have done, considering that the premise was very promising. As far as the Pink Panther series goes up to this still quite early stage, 'Jet Pink' is one of the weakest (though even the weakest, 'Shocking Pink' and 'Reel Pink', are still watchable). It is one of the above average ones when talking about the series in general, and around the middling mark, neither among the best or worst.
Bad things: There are some amusing moments, the ending gag was funny, but the gags at their best are never hilarious and humour-wise 'Jet Pink' can feel rather repetitive.
Pacing can lack crispness and vitality sometimes as a result, while the story is routine and there is not that much surprise of what was going to happen next.
Good things: It is well animated having said all of that, Pink has been better drawn but overall the animation looks good and it is colourful and simple. The music is also a winner, no surprises there as the music is always one of the Pink Panther cartoons' best assets. The music in the cartoon itself accompanying the gags and action is jazzy and has a subtle energy to it. And the theme tune? Even though it's one that can be heard umpteen times it still is very infectious.
Moreover, Pink is cool and likable as well as having the ability to carry his cartoons easily as you'd expect him to be, the nature of the gags and scenario doesn't allow him to be as funny as he can be but even then he still amuses.
Closing thoughts: Concluding, lacking but still worth the viewing at least once. Namely if wanting to see as many Pink Panther cartoons as possible.
6/10.
