'The Pink Panther' "Pink Panic" (1967)
Opening thoughts: 1967's Pink Panther cartoons were mostly solid standard, though expectedly some were stronger than others. 'Pink Panic', helped by that it has one of the most inspired scenarios of the early Pink Panther cartoons, is one of the best of that year for the series and doesn't waste the setting at all. Maybe not quite one of the very best Pink Panther cartoons (while actually being close to being a favourite), though it very nearly was, but still great. With it being one of the best looking, funniest cartoons in the series as well as the spookiest.
Good things: The animation is a little more detailed and vivid than the usual elegant if relatively simple animation seen usually, which considering the story was a good move. The music is still jazzy and infectious yet also with an eerie tone that matches perfectly with 'Pink Panic's' mood.
Visual gags are plentiful and manage to be very clever and funny. The vibrant pacing, spooky atmosphere and cool Pink Panther spirit is also things to like about 'Pink Panic'.
Pink is still a hugely likable character, still managing to be cool, smart, cute and funny, did also feel kind of sorry for him here. The story is quite oddball but still with the Pink Panther spirit, and the ending was a really nice surprise, not being too rushed or abrupt at all.
Concluding thoughts: All in all, a spooky yet still clever and entertaining cartoon, Pink Panther fans won't be disappointed.
