Dial "G" for great
The Pink Panther to me is one of animation's mot iconic characters. DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' output was very hit and miss, or at least post-1970 it was, especially the later theatrical series. With hits such as Pink Panther and the Ant and the Aardvark, and duds such as Crazylegs Crane. For me, The Pink Panther on the whole was the studio's best theatrical series, though The Inspector and Ant and the Aardvark ones come close. It did become very variable from the mid-70s onwards, but the 60s-early 70s output contained some of the studio's best work.
'Dial "P" for Pink' is another great cartoon, the best since 'The Pink Phink' and one of the best of the series. Seeing as the Pink Panther series is the best and most famous of DePatie-Freleng Enterprises' theatrical series, that makes it one of their best. One's enjoyment of it is dependent on how you buy the premise, which may be hard to swallow to some. To me, it was not a problem and actually the strangeness was part of 'Dial "P" for Pink's' charm and appeal and what makes it stand out.
Not much wrong here actually, you are not going to get much surprising or original about the story but when has the story ever been a strong suit of a Pink Panther cartoon.
With that being said, there is a huge amount to like. It helps that the gags are so great, all of them especially the ending range from funny to hilarious. The animation is simply designed, especially the background art, without being too simplistic. The colours are very nicely done. The music is the epitome of cool and catchy, the main theme is the most memorable and irresistible themes.
Absolutely loved the concept for 'Dial "P" for Pink' and the cartoon thankfully does a lot with it. Although the story is unoriginal and slight, it is also full of energy.
Pink still is a very likable character, while his foil matches him very well.
Overall, great and any Pink Panther fans will enjoy it. 9/10.
