The USC Annenberg Inclusion Initiative on Thursday unveiled its latest The Inclusion List, a data-driven ranking system that looks to identify the most inclusive TV series across broadcast, cable and streaming in front and behind the camera.
The list, a collaboration of the Inclusion Initiative and the Adobe Foundation, used data on personnel from the 2021-2022 broadcast season and streaming series from 2021-2023. More than 560 series were scored, looking at 4,500 series regular roles and more than 11,000 crew members across more than 110,000 behind-the-scenes positions were evaluated.
Leading the Top 100 lists were the recently ended Queen Sugar from OWN, HBO’s The Baby and the CW’s All American: Homecoming on the broadcast and cable side, and Raising Dion (Netflix), Gentefied (Netflix), The Garcias (Max), The Last Days of Ptolemy Gray (AppleTV+), Reasonable Doubt (Hulu), Now and Then (Apple TV+), Rap Sh!t (Max), With Love (Amazon Prime), First Kill (Netflix), and Swarm...

Exclusive: In the latest sign of the industry’s changing times, Disney last week announced that Hulu original Only Murders in the Building would air on ABC in January. New data provided to Deadline by Tubular Labs shows the logic behind the scheduling move.
Tubular, which is a YouTube measurement partner, has special access to data from the digital video giant and also tracks social video viewing on YouTube and Facebook across millions of global devices. Social viewing centers on trailers and clips rather than full episodes, but it is nonetheless widely considered a reliable proxy for longer-form tune-in.
Analyzing viewing on official YouTube channels during October (see chart above), Tubular found that just 12% of those who watched ABC content also watched Hulu content. The overlap was even smaller for Disney+ and ABC, at 9%.
For two other legacy media companies balancing linear TV with streaming, the picture looks a bit different.

“We’re gonna be startin’ somethin’ exciting,” Broadway in Hollywood President Jeff Loeb said in a statement. “Our new seven-show season — featuring one pre-Broadway premiere, six Los Angeles Premieres and the long-awaited return of an American classic — is reason enough to ease on down the road to the glorious Hollywood Pantages Theatre.”

It’s easy to get caught up in awards season excitement as the Oscars approach – the glitz and glamour of the red carpet generating global talking points, memes and pub chatter for weeks on end.
But when it’s really broken down, the Oscars are essentially just a microcosm of Hollywood. It’s a depressing fact that films directed by previous winners have more chance of being nominated than those directed by newcomers.
Because of this, the best film in any given year almost never wins the evening’s most coveted prize – in fact, it’s sometimes not even nominated in the first place. The ceremony in 2021, which saw Parasite take home the top prize, was a rare exception.
Over the decades, there have been countless glaring omissions – films that were nominated but were beaten by far inferior films and classic films that failed to secure a single nomination.

The Hollywood Critics Association Awards happened this weekend with them splitting the ceremony into two nights: the first dedicated to broadcast and cable, the second night devoted on streaming.
The Hca’s big cable winner actually went to two shows in a tie, with AMC’s Better Call Saul and HBO’s Succession splitting the award for Best Cable Network Drama Series. Better Call Saul‘s much-anticipated series finale airs tonight on AMC.
Better Call Saul actually cleaned up at the Hca’s, winning Best Actor in a Broadcast or Cable Drama Series for star Bob Odenkirk. Giancarlo Esposito won Best Supporting Actor in a Broadcast or Cable Drama Series, while their co-star, Rhea Seehorn, goes on to win the award for Best Supporting Actress in a Broadcast or Cable Drama Series. It’s a nice way for that show’s run to end, and hopefully the Emmys will take note.

They Talk is an Italian-made horror that riffs on the likes of Brian De Palma’s Blow Out, and sees Alex (Jonathan Tufvesson), a sound engineer, who accidentally records mysterious voices: disturbing messages from the afterlife who warn him against imminent and terrifying danger. Seeking answers he tracks down Professor Hasegawa, an expert on paranormal phenomena.
Little does he know that his old friend Amanda (Rocío Muñoz), with whom he shares a terrible secret, re-emerges from his past also looking for help. The appearance of the young woman triggers chilling paranormal phenomena that leave behind a trail of corpses. Is she the danger the voices of the dead speak about?
They Talk is the second film in recent months to feature strange paranormal activity caught on a recording device.

ABC’s family time with The Goldbergs will continue: The long-running comedy has been renewed for Season 10, TVLine has learned.
The series, of course, will return sans longtime cast member Jeff Garlin (aka patriarch Murray Goldberg), who exited the show in December 2021 following a human resources investigation stemming from several complaints about the comedian’s on-set behavior. Garlin and Sony Pictures Television reached a mutual agreement that called for the actor’s departure. In subsequent episodes, pre-recorded dialogue and a body double was employed for Murray, with Garlin’s face superimposed in post-production.

“We wish [a launch] could be earlier, but we will get there.”
WarnerMedia has a “pretty clear idea” of the content line-up, strategy and shape of HBO Max UK as it begins to plan for its arrival, according to head of HBO Max Global Johannes Larcher.
“We have plans on the shelf for when we get to the UK,” said Larcher, speaking to Screen’s sister publication Broadcast at this week’s Mip TV.
“The end of 2025 is still some way away but we certainly know what our content strategy will be. We know what the service and the product will look like.

Big Brother continued its steady performance on Thursday, easily leading the broadcast primetime ratings. It was a pretty quiet night otherwise, however, with ABC’s game shows returning lower after two weeks off for the political conventions.
Big Brother delivered a 1.0 rating in the key ad demographic of adults 18-49 and 4.06 million viewers for CBS, in line with its season averages across all three nights it airs. Two hours of Love Island averaged 0.4 in the demo and 1.55 million viewers, on par with last week.
