No words to describe the abombination that is this "creation"
oldmanarndt7 April 2009
Hello, First, let me say that this is not some post to try to "snub" these people or whatever. Instead, it represents my refusal to tolerate the crap people are making and using to masquerade around as a 'released filmmaker' or whatever. This 'film' is a perfect example of this. I saw this film at a small film festival near Las Vegas and it was an embarrassment and an abombination. To be honest, it was so poorly made, conceived, etc... I thought the people behind it were satirizing at first. But no, sadly, I was wrong. It is in fact their bleeding art.

There is nothing redeemable about this at all. First and foremost the story is trite, lame, boring, and simply poor. Not to mention the horrible dialogue writing. The 'drama' was so poor and cheesy in fact that most of the audience was laughing at its quality throughout, which I did feel bad for the people who made it. Moving on, there is simply no sense of any sort of technical knowledge, no-how, or recognition in any aspect. It was shot on seemingly low-grade DV cameras, things way over and underexposed, bad sound, and horrible directing. Actually, I don't know if you could determine whether or not the film was actually directed because, well, one example would be this HORRIBLE restaurant scene in which the reverse angles aren't even on axis and the eyelines are not even close to being aligned. Honestly, it was experimental by default. The acting is bad, there's no sense of technical or story understanding, and it's a poor attempt and drama. It would serve better as a spoof, really. It it were possible to rate this a '0' I would, IMDb requires a '1' minimum.

Oh, and don't be fooled by the supposed 'credits' and 'awards' by these people. The 'awards' are from the Accolade festival - which is a joke, and none of the festivals are worth a damn - they are small and essentially non-competitive. Also, the "New York Film Festival" is actually a small, ripoff that screens anything anyone sends in for $300 as long as it's not pornographic in nature. Do not confuse this with the actual New York Film Festival at Lincoln Center.

All in all having to watch this really sent me over the edge because of how horribly made and ill-conceived it is. It was the last straw for me. Too many people think they are making 'movies' with their HDV cam and Imovie. It amazes me, honestly, how bad this effort was. Story, acting, dialogue aside (which were all horrendous), they don't even know how to match eyelines so the audience knows what in God's name is going on. AVOID this like the plague, a really nasty, wicked plague. Movies suck now because of efforts like these. AN ABOMBINATION and insult to cinema.

Dark is the right title

I watched this short film at the Boulder Dam Film Festival, It is not as bad as the other comment by oldmanamdt says, matter of fact if it were anywhere near as bad as this person tries to make it out I can't see how it got in the festival in the first place. I think this person may have been either an actor that didn't get the role or somehow connected to the film and then left on bad terms. Any who, as i was saying the film is dark that is for sure, the sound and picture are good for a low budget short film the acting is also OK for a short film. I think people forget that short films are put together with micro budgets. As I was saying I watched this at the Boulder dam festival and don't recall anyone laughing in the theater, it played with other local Nevada film makers and although it was not the best of the group it sure was not the worst. I gave it 6 of 10 stars and that is fair. unlike disgruntled others. Lighten up oldmanamdt.
