Iceland has a total area of 102.775 square kilometers and a population of 359.122 inhabitants (census 2021): Iceland receives every year about two millions of tourists. At the Reykjavik airport the foreigh tourists are asked to read a pledge (to be responsible tourists) and to agree this pledge. Besides the ranger Hilda Kristjansdottir explains her duty in the icelandic countryside informing the tourists about the care of the nature and the researcher Thorvadur Arnasson who is observing the glaciers proposes to the tourists to take time for the discovery of the nature.
Jean-Marie Bärtsch, an helicopter.pilot shows Jérôme the volcanic area of Iceland, they stop at a place and see fumaroles and also a little river with hot water. Then Jérôme and David Zehla will travel to the Thrihnukagigur volcan, they go down the crater to the magma chamber : Dogg Armannsdóttir, the guide explains them that the green rock contain copper, the red rocks iron and and yellow rocks sulfur. Later they notice the use of the geothermal energy for the bakery (rye bread baked with heat of the earth).
In many places of Iceland there are hot springs: the Icelandic people enjoy staying in the hot water basins to relax and to speak with the other people about all themes.
Jérôme discovers the nice waterfalls and river with David and his associate Pétur Magnusson, they go fishing and later David shows him the lava fields covered with very delicate lichens and they go to theVatnajökull glacier where Sarah Chenal, the guide give them crampons and ice axes to walk over the glacier.
Now some words about food: in Reykjavik Jérôme tastes the hot dog , a very common food: in the café Loki the consumers can eat typical Viking food such fermented shark. There are also new chefs like Gislu Matthias Auounsson who is giving life to an old recipe of cod head (he takes off the skin and the eyes and prepare the head with herbs and algae), he prepares also a ricotta with herbs And horseradish.
Jérôme discovers the life of a farmer family: Disa Arndis Sigurdardottir and her husband Yvar breed sheeps, goats and Icelandic horses and also manage a hotel: they invited Jérôme to a horseback riding and later to plant a tree on their ground.
I enjoyed also the zooms about sports: since 1937 generations of Icelandic people have come to the Sundhöll public swimming pool in Reykjavik (the swimming coach Brjann has learned there to swim): besides the Icelandic people enjoy football, there are famous for their clapping (in the FIFA World championships). Besides there is a typical Icelandic wrestling called Glima and now the young men and women practice crossfit: Annie Thorsdattir, a world champion of crossfit explains that Icelandic women are very combative and she hopes that other young women will follow her example.
I enjoyed very much the nice encounters of Jérôme with Jean-Marie, David ,Dogg Armannsdattir, Pétur, Sarah Chenal, Disa, Yvar , Disa's sister and their children (who were knitting) and I appreciate the kindness of the Icelandic men and women.
