Horrible casting
mehrmichelle11 January 2010
The casting for this movie was really bad. Katherine is over 45 in real life and she is supposed to pass for someone in her 20's??? Also, the secretary, Claire MUST have been related to someone. I usually like the Lifetime movies, but this one needed help with the cast.

This movie was on Pick a Flick Friday night Lifetime Network. The story was a decent story with potential but it was hard to imagine that Jane and Katherine were anywhere close in age. Claire was probably one of the worst actresses I have ever seen. I actually want to see one of her other movies to see if she was really as bad as I thought!

I would not recommend this movie, even for the most forgiving of viewers.

Based on A True Story?
carmenjulianna12 March 2020
I cannot believe that this tv movie was actually based on a real life story? The casting was not up to scratch, and also the acting was so stale... A long drawn-out story with the obvious daytime movie actors that appear so frequently in other daytime dramas/movies; it makes it hard to believe in anything they do or say. Alexandra Paul, has appeared in so many of these dreary B movies, one should ask why she keeps being cast? All the other cast seem like out of work actors.! A dreary Unimaginative Movie 👎

Bad Acting, Bad Script
carolynocean12 March 2021
What lets this movie down big time is the quality of the acting. Cynthia Preston in particular is not a very good actress, I have seen better performances in school plays.

The entire movie was predictable and dull . Poor acting and bad script just added to this very mundane offering.

Low rating deserved here.

Jane's Final Trick
lavatch1 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
"A Sister's Secret" was a well-crafted melodrama with especially well-developed characters. The central conflict is that of two women who knew each other in the past, yet their lives took radically different paths.

While still in her teens, Katherine Morrison had a romantic relationship with Jane Parker's brother Sean. Katherine dumped Sean after he become obsessive about her to the point of intolerance. After Katherine cut ties with Sean, she went to Europe. Jane had the unfortunate experience of discovering Sean's lifeless body strung up in his bedroom. Jane and her mother with a failing heart never forgave Katherine. For her part, Katherine had already moved on with her life in a successful career working for her father.

Now, five years later, Jane has wormed her way into the position of Human Resources Director in a branch office of Katherine's company in Granson, Pennsylvania. When Katherine visits Granson to try to save the failing mill, Jane plans to take her revenge on her nemesis.

The most outrageous sequence in the film was when Jane pulls a trick at the local bar, the Foundation. She picks up the town councilman David, who is planning to support Katherine's plan for revitalization of the mill. After slipping David a roofie and taking him to a local hotel, she takes selfies of them together, then blackmails David into killing the mill deal.

After murdering the kind and decent manager Jim Freely, Jane plans a final trick to get Katherine alone in the business office and murder her. There was good tension in building to the climactic scene, which was effectively played by the two actresses.

"A Sister's Secret" was successful in developing a small town ambience and where memories run long, especially for Jane and her feeble mother. There was a clear motivation for the anger and vitriol of these women. But there was also a strong contrast of their out-of-control bitterness with the decency of Katherine, who is trying to save a company that is the lifeblood of the community. Overall, the smart screenplay and excellent performances revealed the magnetic danger points of a sister's deep, dark secret.
