Mark Consuelos and Chandra West are likable actors. They have good chemistry between them, to the point that you are mentally pushing them to get together. And isn't that the point of a good romance? I happen to think that a lot of people (or critics - I've never looked at most critics as people) have a depraved need to accept only those "Romances" that bleed all over the screen and end in horror and unrequited love. In other words, they think that any romance which brings closeness and comfort is "predictable" and "sophomoric". Methinks their compensation for their own failures at love becomes a stumblingblock to their fairness and critical faculties.
That said, this is a fun little movie about people you could enjoy being with. It doesn't strive for artistic greatness, and the writing is predictable but not heavy-handed. A firefighter is having trouble adjusting to the death of his wife. A writer goes through a dry spell and then is in a fire. They meet and are compelled to adjust their thinking about their lives. Corbin Bernsen does his usual great job as the Fire Chief. The ending is happy. I liked it. So sue me!
