NOT a documentary
Nob0dy16 July 2022
This is factually not a documentary, almost every single word uttered in this show is a lie, lies told to do what america does best, hide the truth and paint themselves as the worlds police out to stop evil on all corners and never doing anything wrong. When in reality their entire history is sticking their noses in foriegn lands where they arent wanted, have no jurisdiction, have no understanding of the local laws, customs, history, economy, struggles and proceed to do clandenstine operations that get thousands of innocents killed all to line the pockets of the people already in the top 1% back in the US.

I will focus on the first episode here as there are too many lies to fit more than one episode critique in this box.

Within the first 15 minutes we have multiple DEA agents talking about an unknown mover in the world of colombian cocaine, a man so secretive and so smart that for years he worked in the shadows and they had no information on him. They tell us it wasnt until the year 2000 when some random low level street dealer in new york somehow possessed the information to expose the entire operataion back in colombia and even give the name of the man at the top, Don Berna.

This is 100% bull. We know from the retired DEA agents that consulted on the creation of the netflix show Narcos, from books written by yank whisetleblowers and even from now declassified DEA files that anyone with an internet connection can find. All of those sources tell us that the DEA not only knew about Berna but worked with him in 1992/1993 during Pablo Escobars final years. Here is a direct quote from now retired agent Peña regarding Berna during Peña's time in colombia in the early 90's "We never signed him up as a DEA informant, but he was at the base and I could always tell there was something weird". This obviously doesnt tell the full story, this was an interview to promote Narcos, not an interrogation, he isnt going to risk being framed and imprisoned for exposing just how shady and immoral americas actions were, but even with this very safe, self protecting quote he still disproves everything that is said in this show about Berna being compeltely unknown until after 2000.

This "mysterious power player" they refer to is a man that they had had close ties to for almost a decade before this show claims they even knew his name.

This disgrace of a "documentary" goes on to call Berna "Escobars apprentice", again 100% lies. During Escobar's heyday Berna was the head of security for a rival cartel. The only dealings those 2 ever had was as uneasy trade partners and most of the time they knew each other was spent trying to kill each other. Meanwhile Berna was on a first name basis with DEA agents.

They then go on to talk about a "mysterious" figure coming into power after Escobars death.....more and more and more lies. There was literally nothing mysterious about it. Don Berna rose to the top in the power vacuum left after Escobar thanks entirely to the US. The show makes it sound like someone rose to the top in the shadows and it was americas duty to once again save the day, the historic truth of the matter is that the man who rose to the top was a mass murdering known crime boss who was only able to fill the power vacuum thanks to the money, weapons and even military equipment that the yanks provided him.

Again, the show paints Berna as an unknown quantity yet the only reason the infamous vigilante group Los Pepes was founded was because yanks gave Berna both money and weapons and agreed to turn a blind eye to his operation if he used some of the money and weapons america fed him to create a group to hunt Escobar while keeping the yanks unwanted names out of the public eye.

I would say its a joke but its not, it's a disgrace. A show with easy living yanks lying through their teeth about historic actions that got thousands of people killed. If you have any interest in this stuff I strongly suggest you read books about it but here is a quick summary of what the actual truth is.

1: America went to Colombia, a less developed, less wealthy nation and tried to enforce their then presidents moronic beleifs on foriegn land with no understanding of the laws, the culture, the economy, the struggles, the lifestyle, the traditions etc 2: They performed operations that were not sanctioned and they had no right, jurisdiction or reason to do them.

3: They worked alongside Don Berna paying him millions in USD and giving him entire arsenals worth of weaponry and military equipment 4: All of the above culiminated in a small scale war that got thousands upon thousands of people killed and it was not for "the greater good" it was not america "saving the day", it was mostly poor people in a developing country being killed in broad daylight becuase uncle sam could not profit off of Escobar's operation but by partnering with Berna they could line their pockets with money from the drug trade that they claim to be trying to stop.

5: Most of the blood that was shed during those years is on the hands of the yanks, they are not the "heroes" in this story, they are immoral, occasionally flat out evil, selfish, greedy and painfully moronic.

Not only does this "documentary" lie about literally everything but they don't even do it well since you can disprove all the bs they spout within minutes and the fact that they even have the audacity to create this to create a false image of america as "good guys" is not only 100% factually and historically incorrect but it is also an insult to the people that the dumbest nation since the dawn of time got killed just to further line the pockets of billionaires who dont even know their names.

This is NOT a documentary
Nob0dy14 June 2021
Tl:dr None of the information presented in this "documentary" is true, it is a complete work of fiction that rewrites history to try and portray america as the worlds guardians. The company behind this should be ashamed of themselves for having the nerve to brand it a "documentary". If you want to watch a fantasy tale presented in the style of a documentary you may enjoy this. But if you want any truth or you have any interest in the people/places/events these episodes touch on I beg you not to put your faith in these lies. Do a search and within 2 minutes I guarantee you you will find books, series , maybe even youtube videos that present more dependable facts than this

Long..... I will focus on the first episode as this box does not allow enough characters to go into detail of all the lies in all the episodes.

The first episode about a man called Don Berna. Within 15 minutes of this episode we have multiple DEA agents telling us that for years there was colombian cocaine boss moving cocaine to the US but was so secretive they had no information on him, not even a name. They say after the year 2000 they discovered his name because some random street level drug pusher in new york was able to tell them the entire infrastructure of the organization even including the supposedly top secret identity of the man at the top.

Every single thing about that is pure fantasy. We know from retired DEA agents who consulted on the story of the show "Narcos" we know from books written by whistleblowers and we know from declassified DEA files that the story told in this "documentary" is 100% bull.

They say the DEA werent even aware of the name "Don Berna" until the year 2000. But anyone who has read or watched anything about escobar and the cali cartel knows that the DEA worked *with* don berna in 1992/1993, they provided him with money and guns and helped him establish the vigilante group "los pepes" specifically to help hunt escobar. So they had a personal connection to him at minimum 8 years earlier than this "documentary" tells us and 1992 is only when they were in direct contact with Berna, it is entirely plausible that their agents who were stationed in Colombia at the time were aware of him as he was already a big player providing the security for one of the most profitble cartels at the time.

They say that there was a secretive unkown boss running the coke trade for years. But again, we know this isnt true, the DEA worked hand in hand with berna to take down escobar, then the DEA turned their attention to the cali cartel. That left berna in a perfect position to rise to the top because the yanks had helped eliminate the competition whilst also providing berna with money and weapons for his operation. America stuck their noses where they didnt belong, took down 2 cartels and then sat back and watched a criminal they funded assume the vacant position of power.

It is an episode where the very title dubs don berna as "escobars apprentice" again, more lies warping the truth to gloss over the atrocities america is largely responsible for. Berna and Escobar knew each other, yes, but they were in different cartels, the closest their relationship ever got was being cautious business partners. America had far more to do with Berna's rise to the top than escobar ever did. Escobar and Berna spent more time trying to kill each other than working together and the DEA agents that worked personally with Berna had a closer partnership/friendship to him than escobar.

Yes cartels wreak havoc I am not condoning any of that, but the violence that colombia has seen from cartels has been both directly influenced and funded by americas continued interference in other countries where they arent wanted, making a documentary about a man who rose to the top of the cartel world thanks specifically to america taking down the existing super-cartels leaders, a man who was directly armed by the DEA and a man whose name the american "intelligence" agencies have known since the early 90's and saying that he is the source of all evil and america is here to save the day is a disgusting level of hypocrisy, lying and baseless patriotism. The DEA have more blood on their hands than any other cartel to ever have existed and if america would stop spending money and sending weapons to other countries and focused on pouring that money into their laughable education system and joke of a healthcare system then the most pointless "war" in history ( the war on drugs) would not still be killing thousands of people in poor countries while lining the pockets of america's old money scumbag string pullers who profit from weapons, oil, military contracts and alcohol.

You do not need to take my word for it, this is a direct quote from retired DEA agent Javier Peña regarding berna " We never signed him up as a DEA informant, but he was at the base and I could always tell there was something weird". So even if you want to beleive that the DEA were aware of berna working with the search bloc but they didnt cross the line to working with him directly it is *still* irrefutable fact that the DEA were aware of him almost an entire decade earlier than this show tries to tell you.

This "documentary" completely ignores what historically happened and instead weaves a completely fictional tale trying to present don berna as the big bad and america as the heroes. When the proven historially accurate series of events is that instead of spending money on their education and healthcare systems america sent people to do clandestine operations in countries they had no business in. They said they wanted to stop drugs coming into america but all they did was replace the existing cartels with a more streamlined one that moves coke into the US in even larger quantities than in escobar's heyday and they also meddled in the colombian politics and helped put a man (who I probably am not allowed to name here) into the presidential office despite his entire campaign being funded by a certain cartel.

They literally went into a country less developed than their own, caused thousands of deaths, killed the bosses who wouldnt bow to them and replaced them with people who are just as evil (arguably more so) but because they were more corruptable and accepted uncle sams dollars and/or because america had leverage on them since america's "intelligence" agencies had proof of the cartels dealings america was perfectly happy to play an instrumental role in the rise of people like berna and a certain president. This "documentary" saying anything else, especially the bare faced lies they tell here is not just a scumbag thing to do but is an outright insult to the thousands of peoples killed as a direct result of american meddling.

More US DEA feel-good back-slapping propaganda
loozzotys1 January 2022
This was as close to a doco as watching The Matrix, literally. The 'doco' was so ridiculous and biased and twisted the facts so much to shift all blame from US about the narco trade to 'foreigners' literally.

The DEA worked WITH ElChapo in the beginning and also worked WITH the Cali Cartel in the end, yet this doco tries to make DEA look like Snow White (pun intended).

Episode 5 for example about Paul Le Roux is just ridiculous twist of all the facts with anyone who has read about that case or knows anything about technology.

It tried to shift blame from US drug manufacturers of legal drugs addiction eg Oxycontin to Le Roux which is just outrageous and ridiculous bait and switching.

Also it mentioned TrueCrypt developed thanks to Le Roux , is used by terrorists drug dealers and Iran is just misinformation and ridiculous as millions of technology experts, system admins and privacy enthusiats and whistleblowers use Truecrypt daily. Truecrypt is even available to be installed in all Linux Operating systems. The doco also tried to make it sound as if the US government had the right to take away your privacy and you had no right to privacy, and if you used encryption then you were a criminal or hiding something.

Also The 'doco' missed the whole section about LeRoux ,who was actually not a drug dealer from the beginning, in fact Le Roux was tricked into buying and selling drugs by the DEA allegedly.

Also this ' doco' tries to falsely and erroneously insinuate Le Roux hated Australia and Australians and thats why he sold cocaine to Australia is ridiculous because Le Roux was just a troll in his youth. He was a genius and a troll and he trolled literally everyone online. He enjoyed it , not because he was racist against Australians or anything.

People should watch the ElChapo TV series to see a more 'real doco' about drugs and the DEA.
