A Slight Step Down
ahmadz83921 November 2022
"Vultures on the Line" has a lot going for it and could have been the finest episode of the season so far, but the episode's confusing continuity makes the viewing experience feel more like a chore and lessens the episode's overall appeal. It takes a slight detour from the two leads, whom the audience is still warming up to, by adding a disjointed side plot that seems to serve no purpose, but will probably make sense in the long run. Despite its shortcomings, the episode keeps you invested thanks to its excellent performances, beautiful settings, and well-written dialogue. With half of the show's total runtime concluded and not much in the way of progression, one can only hope that the second half will pack a punch and move the story forward; I'm certainly looking forward to it.

Rating: 7.5/10 (Good, Slightly Flawed)

Captivating but confusing holes in plot

This show is so captivating. For the most part, the story is compelling. The show really tries to scream a Tarantino violent beginning to each episode so far

My biggest complaints are that either the plot and timeline don't show or explain what is going on so that you are losing a timeline of characters. It may also just be because everyone's accents are so thick, you lose a lot of the script. And the writers were alarmist too clever in trying to be fancy in the script that you lose a lot. The show is great, but it's these factors why I'll never watch it again. And the timeline jumps have no cue. So it creates confusion.

Great subtle character development on Emily blunts character.

I rate the show an 8. If it didn't sound like everyone (is x epr the 2 main characters) had a sock in their mouth when talking, I'd rate it a 9.

A series of unfathomable events.

Cornelia and Eli go their separate ways, both run into equal amounts of trouble, Eli learns that the Clarke family have a dark secret, Lady Cornelia does her best to find safety for the children.

I couldn't make head not tail of it, I didn't have a clue what on Earth was going on, it just seemed as though random characters, popped up, made their respective marks, and we as viewers are left wondering who these people are, and what part they will play.

Visually again, hats off, it is the most beautiful looking series imaginable, and I'm sure that has to be the first horse and trap chase I've ever seen. The clothes are incredible, credit to the wardrobe team, Eli in particular, that outfit I just amazing.

I had absolutely no idea what was going on for the most part, but I thoroughly enjoyed it nonetheless, I felt like someone who was plonked at the seaside and told not to move, just watch the world go by.

7/10.

The third episode was certainly disjointed but beautiful to look at.

It reminded me somewhat of Heaven's Gate. The west was more than wild, it was proper nasty but what the hell is the plot all about!

I am sure Hugo Blick will put it all together as people fight over land or eye up expansion by fair means or foul.

Sheriff Robert Marshall (Stephen Rea) better get ready for an increase in the death count in his jurisdiction.

Both Cornelia Locke and Eli Whipp are apart for this story. At least Cornelia managed to reunite the children with their families.

With Eli in danger, it is Cornelia who is getting accustomed to her rough hewn surroundings.
