Actual isolation would be more entertaining than this anthology...

I was lured into watching the 2021 horror anthology "Isolation" because of the movie's cover/poster, as I found it to be intriguing, but also because this was a movie that I hadn't already seen.

As it usually is with anthologies, then "Isolation" was a bag of mixed nuts. Personally I found the majority of the segments and storylines told in the anthology to be rubbish and boring. In fact, I actually drifted off to sleep during this ordeal of an anthology. So yeah, "Isolation" wasn't a movie that had much appeal to me.

The storylines are all very varied in contents, for better or worse. But ultimately they individually just failed to provide me with much of any entertainment or enjoyment. In fact, some of the segments were just downright ludicrous or hands down bad.

The acting performances in "Isolation" were so-so. I will say that the actors and actresses put on fair enough jobs, but they didn't really have much of a running chance, as the contents of the storylines for the segments were weak or non-existing. I wasn't familiar with the majority of the cast ensemble in this anthology, except for Larry Fessenden. It wasn't exactly a top of the line ensemble here.

I cannot recommend that you waste your time, money or effort on "Isolation". Some of us suffered through this ordeal so you don't have to.

My rating of "Isolation" lands on a two out of ten stars. It just simply wasn't worth the effort.

Better than the current rating

"Isolation" is a story told through multiple short stories, some of which are interrelated, of a pandemic that swept the world. Stories from New York, San Diego, Los Angeles, Seattle, Chicago, Seattle, El Paso, Miami. And Berlin comprise the movie.

While it is a very extreme version of the "pandemic" that actually did just sweep the world, it is very engaging and watchable. Some conspiracy theories are presented, some are extreme, some are plausible. Everyone still has electricity and water, there is food, there are no zombies, but there are clearly perceived enemies.

Overall, it was enjoyable, well written, acted, and directed and, if you do a shot after every story, it is probably more enjoyable.

Part of the new COVID horror genre

So let's set our expectations; a bunch of "intertwined" short stories never amount to much of a movie but can be good individually. Taken as 9 mini movies, I liked it. However, if you are prone to covid-related anxiety then this probably isn't the movie for you.
