Imagining Vranje
marijamail4 September 2021
I find that placing the Ottoman Vranje in the framework of western genre completely missed the point, as Vranje, a wealthy merchant Ottoman town, was not at all so chaotic and violent a that time. Also there is a lot of orientalism in depicting characters, all of that absolutely not present in the literary work of Stankovic, upon ehich the film is based.

They could simply make a porn
coffeedrinker8821 January 2022
It's not a bad movie and it well depicts how rough it was during the Ottoman occupation. But the amount of unnecessary sex scenes is out of chart. If that's the point of the movie, then I could just watch a porn.

An authentic look at a time which today is forgotten or hidden from memory because of shame...
MachinaEx2 May 2022
One of the things that is great about this movie is it's production and authentic look of nineteenth century Serbia under the crumbling Ottoman empire, also since this is a Balkan movie it is really close to western production standards. The film is a prequel of well known book called Necista Krv (Impure blood) by Borisav Stankovic, a well known Serbian author. The film show how the local Serbian elite to preserve their status and power colluded with the Ottoman occupiers and made deals with them in secret and even trading their loved ones when times get tough. The main character is man who is unhappy with the state of his family and their many sins that they commit daily of which the whole town talks about (as a saying goes "o cemu carsija prica nego onama"). The family member are mostly "stained" by their lack of control of their emotions as well as their lust to which the main character knows about both keeps things "hush, hush" to preserve their wealth and influence. The Ottoman are shown mostly as evil, both the Serbs are shown to mostly commit the necessary evils to survive (which is partly true historically). In the end the movie has high productions value for Serbian production, the authenticity of dress and morals of that time is greatly done, and it's worth seeing, both not as good as I expected! Recommended.

A tremendous adaptation
FloriMajlen2 September 2021
I had no expectations coming into cinema knowing that some previous adaptations of this exact piece of literature hadn't really been that successful. However, I must say that I was pleasantly surprised, because the newest adaptation of Necista krv (or Bad Blood) is nearly flawless in variety of aspects. First of all, sound was terrific, a revelation for me, having been used to terrible sound techniques of Serbian cinema. Cinematography is, perhaps, one of the best ones I've seen in years, whoever is the person who stood behind this should receive an applause from honest moviegoers. Now, acting was very good and frequently criticized young actors performed significantly better than they had before. Direction was also very solid. All in all, a fantastic film and you should definitely check it out.

Unbelivable how much people do not understand
vojapetkovic7 July 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Movie like this one is simply perfect based on series Necista krv but its a lot shorter and contain only few first episodes so its not whole plot twist. I am terribly horrified how people do not understand what are movie talking about. Based on books of Serbian writer Borislav Stankovic "Necista krv" is based on some of the biggest Serbian novels "Kostana", etc. Movie presents some adaption outside books but still main events are still there. In the movie we are talking about pain and problems of the Serbian people living with turks in 1850s in Vranje north Ottoman empire. There is also plot about Serbian family trought three generations of children. The ruin of the family starts when "Hadzi Trifun" died and his sons start pushing on their own side so that make problems for the people around them. Turks are ofcourse not the main problem of the movie and that is misjudged by the most of foreign audience what I could conclude by reading reviews by the other people on site. Must watch series after this movie so you can get objective conclusion. Its not about Albanian or Turkish problems and it has nothing to do with Serbian history and should not be viewed from that point of view.. the problems of people's families and the time in which they live and maybe they don't belong, later evolve and even greater expansion and destroy lives because of the belief that sin belongs to man as much as everything else because we are still human, but the time of the action does not accept what is not allowed already it is strongly condemned and denied in all possible ways and tries to avoid the shame of the family before everything else. It's not pornography at all and it's very progressive, you should focus on the plot of the film and not on the scenes of sex or love of young people who are buried alive only because of the times they live in. These actors are the best that Serbia has at the moment and they presented a believable version of Bora Stankovic's novel as much as possible on the big screen... Before giving a bad rating to the film, I think you should take a closer look at the situation or read something about movie or series or even to read the novels of the Serbian realist Bora Stankovic..

A solid portrayal of 19th century Serbia under the Ottomans
alexscg8 February 2024
This movie shows a patriarchal, Oriental Serbia in the hands of the Ottomans towards the end of their reign. Some of you wrote that the Ottomans were known for their tolerance. That is not so. They took women as desired, they separated young boys from their mothers to raise them as janissaries, they beheaded prominent people, etc. So, yes, they were evil and they ruled brutally. And yes, they did not allow church bells to ring. We have lived through centuries of Ottoman rule and we have tons of documents to prove all these facts. You may not like this, but this is how it was.

The movie is solid. The costumes are good. Sex scenes are there to show lust and passion. Many forbidden and secret loves happened, so lust was understandable when two people in love were alone. The sex scenes are way less portrayed than in most American movies anyway. A patriarchal family where the man in the house is the boss. He thinks he is doing all the right things to save his power and influence, but all he does is ruin the lives of his family members, one by one. Women were treated as second class citizens. This is how it was in Serbia at the time.

Most people make a mistake by looking at things from today's perspective. We have to observe the things from the time when they happened, and things were very much different then. We are talking about the 19th century in this case.

All in all, this is a fair portrayal of 19th century Serbia under the Ottoman Turks. For Western viewers, this may come a bit raw and harsh, but most Balkan movies are like that. It is helpful to know some history before watching Balkan movies.

Blagi uzas
slavkogligor8 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers

Spletkari, narucuje ubistva, glumi mob boss-a. To je tako daleko od prave slike Trifunove.

I jos jedna stvar... Radnja filma je smestena na samom jugu stare Srbije, zasto jezik nije autentican? Zasto likovi pricaju na "beogradskom"?

Blagi uzas...

Deserves 8, and it is 8.
Devil9965 October 2021
Movie is absolutley beautiful, cinematography is side by side with Hollywood. But to me as a Serbian from Southern Serbia really bothers that dialect is not used. Movie would be a perfect 10 if the dialect of Vranje was used. This way, i really can't go above the 8.

Movie is not historical, or made as a representation of a book. It is inspired by first dozen or so pages when the lead character was introduced, this is a story about her grandphader as I remember. He is only mentioned in the book and Bijelogrlic did an amazing job by creating thist storyline.

A terrible Srpski film
Svaft26 January 2022
A Serbian movie that is so far from the historical facts to claim that the Ottoman Empire, famous for its tolerance, did not allow church bells to be rung for 400 years. It's also racist enough to make Turks look like monsters. And it's too erotic look like a porn movie. It is a very bad movie in terms of art, fiction and acting.

This movie is all about creating fake history. Poor acting and highly racism scene's. This has absolutely nothing to do with the real stories. It should be removed and disbarred from platforms.

We get it, you don't like Turks
ilhanalp17 February 2022
This is the cheesiest way to show Turks are evil. The whole garbage of a movie begins with a scene where Ottoman soldier shoots a dog for no reason and throws it at a Church. They couldn't even find Turkish actors to play the roles. Just when I thought Turkish TV shows sucked, you guys came along. Please reconsider movie industry as a business profile.

Also, if you want to make a video about hating on Turks, just upload it on YouTube. Don't waste people's time.

Pointless movie
psyche197921 January 2022
It is true that evil strikes. The terrible truth is that this is happening even now. It is also true that evil cannot be prevented by evil. Besides, the film has no other meaning than to earn some money from the current occupiers. The wrong movie at the wrong time is a complete disaster.

dritapacolli3 March 2022
This movie is the worst fake movie I have ever seen. The actors suck, the story is out of context . It has nothing to do with the real stories.send this movie to garbage. Serbians are always trying to hide their own crimes that they have committed throughout the Balcans.
