Rushed endings? nothing new.

"The ending feels incredible rushed and it feels like some (crucial/character & world-building) threads in the story were dropped in order to meet a deadline."

This is exactly the common practice for Nihei san.

Every single manga of his has this flaw. Sidonia, Ningyou no Kuni, Kaina. Similarly the movies are all the same. I still love his works and name them the best. But, probably, all coins have two sides. One side is Nihei's special style, astonishing level of details, industrial vibes.

But the other... the other is when you are taken your breath away by those 90% of the masterpiece, you are then forced to exhale loudly and say WAAAAAT?

"Why would anyone put so much efforts in creating those 90% and make a hush of those 10%?"

Still the best. Love them. Simply, that love is just a bit unanswered.

We waited so long!!

I loved it , I waited so long to see the sequel , I thought it would never come , I'm sorry it didn't become a series and this movie , it has everything , love , war , everything we could want from this anime .

I would really like to see more of it , to create new series out of it , I would watch even my 38 years old me watching them. It's mature theme, it's fascinating and gorgeous at the same time.

But if you haven't seen what it's about, if you haven't seen the series, you won't understand much of what's going on, I highly recommend you stop and watch the gorgeous series first and then watch this movie to understand what it's about.

I highly recommend it. I wish you a pleasant viewing :)

Nice way to end the story

Warning: Spoilers
I didn't know this released and have been looking forward to an update on the series. This series was one of the very first animes I had watched. I didn't read Manga so I can compared it to that. However as far as the story goes it's on point for a movie. It would have been nice to see this as a 24 episode series to go into more details with what was exposed in the movie. For example I would have like to learn more about the doctors transformation and what he talked to gauna about. He said that the large gauna cluster had answers to the universe. Which makes me wonder more about the history of the ceatures, but for again for a movie I can't complain it hit every topic and left an opening at the end to continue the series. I will say seeing Tanikaze's and Tsumugi child asking Izana if she would ever see her again to heart be quite heart breaking, because they would never meet again. As she is with the crew on seed of humanity ship, Sidonia to find another planet for humanity to inhabit. All in all I wish they continued the story with a full series, but I'm satisfied with this movie.

Rushed

No Spoiler Review - Sidonia is a cool and (really) weird anime. I was looking forward to the conclusion to this story, however this movie did not fulfill it's potential. Everything feels rushed and storylines don't have any room to breathe. This is something that a full final season could facilitate but alas. I haven't read the manga, but I've heard it's different from this movie. The original first series of Sidonia I would rate a 7/10 and this movie a 5/10. Sidonia's storyline has some clichés here and there but overall doesn't bother me that much. However these clichés become more apparent due to the poor execution of the conclusion in this movie. Shame. I really wanted to like this one. I wanted a sci-fi attack on titan. Guess I'll have to look elsewhere. Oh and another thing before I go. There's this series from cartoon network called: Samurai Jack, that has the same problem as sidonia. The ending feels incredible rushed and it feels like some (crucial/character & world-building) threads in the story were dropped in order to meet a deadline. The same killer that killed Jack, killed this show.

One major issue with the characters
Cookiejar554 October 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Ok so when Sidonia obtained a placenta that took the form of Hoshijiro, Tanikaze would visit that placenta every day he had the chance to.

Then Tsumugi -hybrid appears and he seems to conveniently forget all about Hoshijiro, now in this film he falls in love with this hybrid creature, like sorry but it's too much for me to see a human and an alien hybrid with tentacles fall in love. (the kiss was creepy). The most interesting thing in the series was Hoshijiro anyway and they also could have done more with the Gauna that had her memories.

Poor Hoshijiro has the worst fate I've seen an anime character have (apart from Asuka maybe), she's just an incubator and a DNA pool for clones. It really really annoys me, the manga artist could have fixed this or at least the film could have had an alternate story line to fix that.
