From the twisted, nightmarish transformations possessed by corruption, infection, or dark magic, these monsters serve as haunting reminders of what can happen when the human body becomes a vessel for something sinister.

Todd Howard always wanted to create an Indiana Jones game. In 2009, the prolific director of titles like Fallout 3 came close, pitching an Indiana Jones game to LucasArts, the video game subsidiary arm of Lucasfilm. However, the collaboration didn’t end up happening. At the time, Howard and the developers at Bethesda Game Studios were riding high on the critical and commercial successes of 2002’s The Elder Scrolls III: Morrowind and 2006’s The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, but even so, Indy remained out of reach for the team.

After the success of the Fallout TV series, many were introduced to the Fallout video game franchise but it can be difficult to choose the best beginner-friendly Fallout game. A lot of gamers new to the franchise would naturally pick the latest game of the series, Fallout 4, however, diehard fans of the franchise believe that 2010’s Fallout: New Vegas is a better starting point thanks to better game mechanics.

Not everyone agrees with that though, as a viral post on Reddit sparked a debate between fans of Fallout 4 and Fallout: New Vegas. The fans of the franchise have been eagerly waiting for the next Fallout game, but it seems like it is still a decade away.

Todd Howard has a great reputation in the gaming industry as a game director, who has released groundbreaking franchises like The Elder Scrolls and Fallout. However, his latest venture, Starfield, had a mixed reception upon its release. While some fans found joy in its expansive universe, others criticized it for lacking the polish expected from Bethesda.

However, Former Bethesda employee, Bruce Nesmith noted in an interview that the launch of sci-fi space RPG is similar to the debuts of franchises such as Mass Effect and Assassin’s Creed (Both of them had some hiccups at the start). Despite this potential, Howard’s recent comments have left many fans feeling uneasy about what lies ahead as he said there might be significant delays in updates and upcoming titles.

In the wake of Starfield’s release and its Shattered Space Dlc, Todd Howard and Bethesda are at a crossroads. The sci-fi RPG was hailed as the studio’s most ambitious project since The Elder Scrolls. But it fell short of fans’ expectations and left not just the studio’s fans but gamers in general disappointed.

When you talk about RPG titles, then you can never go past Bethesda. This American video game developing company has surfaced probably one of the best RPG titles of all time, for example: The Elder Scrolls, Fallout, and Starfield. Be it enormous exploration areas, stunning visuals, or captivating gameplay, these games have always garnered huge fanbases for this reason.

One of the major complaints against these RPGs is their massive playtime. You will need around 40 hours to complete the main storyline of Starfield. On the other hand, Skyrim takes a staggering 109 hours to complete the main storyline along with the side quests. However, there was a title that was released 5 years ago that beat all of these RPGs in terms of quality, and it never needed 100 hours of gameplay.

Although Bethesda gave us some genre-defining games such as The Elder Scrolls and Fallout, gamers were left disappointed by the release of Starfield in 2023. The space RPG was the company’s first new IP in years and had a lot of pressure on its shoulders.

Bethesda’s and Todd Howard’s lineup of popular franchises like Fallout, Starfield, and the elusive Elder Scrolls 6 need a lot of focus and resources. But the shadow cast by these titles could block other fan-favorite series’ like Dishonored from ever seeing the light of day.
Despite previous rumors of a Dishonored 3, the recent closure of Arkane Austin, the primary studio behind the original games, casts doubt on its release. As Bethesda and its parent company, Microsoft, redirect resources to their more “high-impact” titles, the future of Dishonored looks bleaker than ever.

Bethesda’s ownership by Microsoft hasn’t been without its controversies. Microsoft shut down several studios earlier this year. One of these included Arkane Austin, the developer behind Redfall, a title that was not received well for many reasons.

Labels like “comedy” and “drama” are fundamentally meaningless — except when it comes to TV awards, when the distinction can mean the difference between win and lose or a nomination and a snub. That’s why the denizens of Hollywood, eager to buck tradition and format for the sake of art most of the year, tend to lose their shit around Emmy season.
The annual debate resurfaced this past summer when The Bear scored 23 Emmy nominations and broke 30 Rock’s record for the most for a comedy in a single season. The genre, after all, was long-dominated by sitcoms — Frasier being the all-time Emmy with 37 wins, followed closely by The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Cheers. And while there’s no arguing that The Bear is an incredibly well-made piece of television, as evidenced by the eventual 11 wins in a diverse pool of categories, it’s not exactly brimming with levity.

Starfield was one of the biggest video games in 2023. Amidst the crowd of Diablo 4, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, Alan Wake 2, Baldur’s Gate 3, and many more, the Bethesda title stood firm. However, this space exploration title never went on to fulfill the expectations and hype it created in its long development period.

Along with this title, there are two other franchises of Bethesda that went on to become two of the most successful IPs of the company: Fallout and The Elder Scrolls. Despite the brilliance of the space exploration title, Bethesda seems to be working hard on one of its titles on Fallout Day.

Fallout fans had a lot to digest during Fallout Day 2024, but one particular announcement for Fallout 76 raised eyebrows. While the game has certainly improved over the years, the introduction of the new four-player co-op mode feels very similar to the Space Marine 2 and Helldivers 2 formula.

With the success of recent TV adaptations of popular video game franchises — none more notable than HBO’s The Last of Us and Amazon Prime’s Fallout — studios everywhere are looking for more titles to transform from interactive entertainment into the strictly viewable kind. In spite of their success with Fallout, however, Amazon appears to be struggling with their other major video game adaptation: God of War.
The A.V Club recently reported that the streaming giant has trashed multiple iterations of scripts for God of War season 1. Showrunner Rafe Judkins, who is also the showrunner on Amazon's The Wheel of Time series, is no longer working on God of War. The same goes for executive producers Hawk Ostby and Mark Fergus.

God of War is the latest first-party franchise under the PlayStation Studios banner to receive the live-action treatment in partnership with Amazon Prime Video. Studio executives praised the scripts penned by the original showrunners; unfortunately, their hard work has now been wasted and the company decided to move in a different direction.
While it is unfortunate to see what could have been worthwhile and quality content shelved or scrapped, perhaps the decision to start from scratch is an opportunity to improve. Adapting one of the most popular video game franchises of recent years can be challenging, and the executives must have their reasons behind the decision to restart.

Is “Shōgun” about to pull a “Succession” at the 2025 Golden Globes?
Currently at Gold Derby, the FX historical epic leads three top categories in our Golden Globe predictions: Best Drama Series, Best Drama Actor for Hiroyuki Sanada, and Best Drama Actress for Anna Sawai. If it also manages to pull off a fourth victory in a supporting race, it would match “Succession’s” total of four from last year.
For its final season, HBO’s family drama won the series prize at the Golden Globes and it also took home trophies for lead actors Kieran Culkin and Sarah Snook, plus supporting player Matthew Macfadyen.
If “Shōgun” rides off with only the three top categories for series, lead actor, and lead actress, it would still be in good company indeed, as only a handful of dramas have done so. Besides “Succession” in 2023, “The Crown” most recently accomplished this feat in 2020. Before that,...

Netflix might be the biggest streamer in the game, but it's not entirely without competition. While the company has around 282 million subscribers, Amazon's Prime Video service isn't too far behind with 230 million users. Are a large contingent of those people just Amazon customers who happen to have a Prime Video account by virtue of signing up to the company's fast delivery service? Yes. Still, it's not as if Amazon's platform hasn't earned the right to challenge Netflix for streaming supremacy.
Prime Video has given us some standout hits such as the stellar video game adaptation "Fallout," and is, of course, home to the sweeping fantasy series "Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power." Are there also a few duds mixed in? Well, yes. Just take a look at the Bourne ripoff without an identity, "Citadel." But this is streaming after all, which requires a constant, er, stream of "content" to maintain itself,...

Earlier this year, Amazon dropped all 10 episodes of Fallout on its Prime Video streaming service, and the world ate it up. Based on the video game series from Bethesda, Fallout is a post-apocalpytic adventure that's one-part black comedy, one-part sci-fi western, and one-part character-driven drama. The show quickly became a hit, and Amazon renewed it barely a week after the first season dropped.
Producers see Fallout lasting a while, but even so, we likely won't see a second season for a couple of years. That said, it sounds like Amazon is rushing a second season into production, as cast members Leslie Uggams (Betty) told ScreenRant that filming begins just next month: "We start November. I'm excited about it."
For a show that Amazon wasn't sure it wanted to renew until it actually dropped, a six-month turnaround time between the season 1 finale and filming on season 2 is quite fast. Even as recently as earlier this month,...

The Fallout TV series has proven to be a rather massive hit for Amazon with its fresh take on the post-apocalyptic wasteland that still manages to retain the themes, absurdity, and magic of the source material.

For Bethesda, though, this is a big win, given its rough history with live-action adaptations. But with one of its IPs finding its way to the screen so successfully, we feel that it’s the perfect time to resurrect another series, one that desperately needs to be redeemed in the realm of prestige media.

Things are getting personal on the set of CBS’ “Elsbeth.” The Eye network was set to announce Sunday that Emmy-winning actor Michael Emerson — the husband of “Elsbeth” star Carrie Preston — will join the show in a recurring role this season.
The news was scheduled to be revealed during the “Elsbeth” panel at New York Comic-Con, as moderated by series guest star Laura Benanti. As announced during the panel, Emerson will join in a recurring role starting with the show’s Dec. 12 episode.
The “Lost” and “Person of Interest” star will appear as Judge Milton Crawford, described as a “haughty, soft-spoken and bespectacled man from an old New England family of public servants who sees his place in the nation’s elite as a birthright.” He’ll serve as a foil to Elsbeth Tascioni, the character played by Preston.
The couple has appeared on camera before in projects including “Person of Interest.

Anthony and Joe Russo, the Russo Brothers, have directed some of the biggest movies of all time, with their film Avengers: Endgame coming in second place just behind James Cameron’s Avatar… but that hasn’t made it any easier to get their sci-fi adventure film The Electric State out into the world. The project was first announced back in 2017 and experienced multiple ups, downs, and behind-the-scenes shake-ups on its way to production, with filming beginning in 2022 and wrapping in early 2023. Now look, Starfield’s Shattered Space Dlc isn’t some masterpiece that will knock your socks off. It’s short, the enemies are annoying, and if you were hoping to see an overhaul of the base game’s overall structure, you’d be left sorely disappointed. Trust us, we get it.

God of War is one of the best and most popular video game franchises. Whoever played even one game from the series will say the same – it is absolutely spectacular. After going through the depths of Greek mythology, the authors sent Kratos to Scandinavia, where he had to face the horrors of the Norse pantheon.
A sequel is expected to be announced since both Nordic games performed exceptionally well. It may be set in Egypt. Additionally, fans of the franchise will likely enjoy a streaming series adaptation of the popular games. Amazon and Sony are collaborating on the series.
This was confirmed some time ago, and while we had some initial updates, it’s been a while since anyone commented on the series.
Now, we have a brand new and interesting update that is both good and bad, depending on how you approach the information we are going to provide you with.

The video game industry is right now in heavy turmoil, as suggested by the former PlayStation CEO, Shawn Layden. Huge companies are opting for arrays of employee layoffs as well as studio closures as cost-cutting measures. Ubisoft even went to delay its highly anticipated Assassin’s Creed Shadows to compensate for the loss caused by Star Wars Outlaws.

The main reason for this distressed situation is the money-mongering mentalities of most of the publishing companies. Games these days are following the same trend of micro-transactions with little emphasis on building something unique, something creative.

Bethesda’s Todd Howard has made it clear that the company’s future games will receive long-term support, a lesson learned from past experiences with Skyrim and Fallout 4. Despite the success of these two titles, Howard regrets not providing continued updates for a longer period.

While Skyrim and Fallout 4 received expansions and next-gen upgrades, Howard believes that more could have been done to extend their longevity. Bethesda now seems committed to correcting this with its more recent titles like Fallout 76 and Starfield, and its upcoming projects such as The Elder Scrolls 6.

The 1983 helicopter action film Blue Thunder is said to be the inspiration for Christopher Nolan’s next film – at least according to the latest rumour circulating.
Speculation regarding Christopher Nolan’s next project is really starting to ramp up with rumours emerging, being debunked and then replaced, almost as quickly as we can cover them. It’s been a week since it was officially confirmed that the British filmmaker would be following up the incredible critical and commercial success of last year’s Oppenheimer by once again partnering with Universal. We also got a release date for the next Nolan project: 17th July, 2026.
With Nolan projects being what they are, a typical veil of secrecy surrounds the movie but fear not, the ever-dependent rumour mill has ground into action and in the seven days or so that have followed, we’ve had series of reports offer differing threads of speculation...

Amazon plans to expand advertising on Prime Video to Brazil, India, Japan, the Netherlands and New Zealand in 2025.
Executives announced the move Tuesday at the annual Amazon Ads “Unboxed” event in Austin, TX, which showcases new products and initiatives.
In January 2024, Prime Video introduced ads on series and film originals and library titles in Australia, Austria, Canada, France, Germany, Italy, Mexico, Spain, UK and the U.S. Subscribers looking to opt out of ads are able to do so by paying an extra $3 a month. The company followed the ad shift by convening its first upfront event for media buyers, during the main week of presentations in New York by legacy media giants as well as Netflix and YouTube.
Last month, sources confirmed to Deadline that Amazon exceeded its internal target of $1.8 billion in upfront ad commitments. Live sports, along with popular originals like Fallout and Reacher, have given the video outlet a significant boost.

Hunters, creatures, magic, and more—the premise of The Axis Unseen is certainly hard to ignore. Add to that the excitement of Metal music that syncs with your gameplay, and you have yourself an open world that serves as a promising venture for mystical adventures. It’s important to note that the game is crafted by one of the developers behind iconic Bethesda games.
Just Purkey Games has tried something spectacular with The Axis Unseen’s art direction and setting. Unfortunately, its poor execution leaves a bitter aftertaste once you’re over the much beloved “Skyrim’s stealth hunting” nostalgia. After my playthrough, I was left craving a nuanced experience for something that feels like a mod for a Bethesda title, rather than a fully developed indie game.

Before Fallout 5 comes out, we should look at what makes a survival game good. When developing a survival game, there’s a delicate balance between challenge, creativity, and immersion. But what makes a survival game truly stand out?

In a recent Reddit post, one developer noted some key points they wanted to explore in their survival game. As we look ahead to the next Fallout game, Todd Howard and his team at Bethesda might do well to integrate these ‘golden points’ into the next iteration of their post-apocalyptic universe.

One of the most crucial elements of a successful survival game is the sense of purpose. Players need more than just a never-ending grind—they need a goal that gives their struggles meaning.

One of the most crucial elements of a successful survival game is the sense of purpose. Players need more than just a never-ending grind—they need a goal that gives their struggles meaning.

Ella Purnell is hard to ignore. The wide-eyed British actress has drawn raves as a plucky survivor in Netflix‘s apocalyptic drama Fallout, and in her breakout role as a teenage queen bee in Showtime supernatural thriller Yellowjackets. TV Insider spoke with Purnell about her new darkly comedic and suspenseful six-part series, Sweetpea, In the Starz thriller, she pulls off playing someone invisible: the ignored and sidelined Rhiannon Lewis, a receptionist at a local newspaper who develops an intoxicatingly liberating taste for murder. Purnell shares what it felt like shooting Rhiannon’s first kill: “The animal comes out. It’s not something we ever do. It’s not something we’re allowed to do, especially as women where we have to really manage our emotions and be quite careful with what we let out and when we let it out to be encouraged to just scream, to just explode. Starz...

There’s been some a renaissance of sorts for survival games lately, after a long patch of mediocrity, but now fans of the genre can celebrate, as the likes of Manor Lords and The Last Plague: Blight, hit early access. Unlike the former, the latter hit pretty hard on the realism aspects of a post-apocalyptic survival game, and for better or worse, you’ll learn how to survive if the worst thing happens!
Thankfully, we got to speak to Sergei Bezborodko, sole founder of Original Studios and developer of The Last Plague: Blight, about the game, choices made, and what it could lead to.
[This was a written interview, some answers have been edited for clarity and brevity.]
The Last Plague: Blight is a Lesson in Surviving Firstly, thanks for taking the time to answer these! For the FandomWire readers who may be unaware, please explain who you are and what you do?

“Teacup,” Peacock’s new series executive produced by James Wan, is a tricky one to write about. Writer, producer, and showrunner Ian McCulloch (Yellowstone) draws very little from Robert McCammon’s Stinger, opting for a modern, minimalist interpretation of the horror western, one driven almost entirely by its central mystery. The eight-episode inaugural season is so structured around its enigmatic threat, purpose, methodology, and reach that “Teacup“ becomes a landmine of spoilers to dodge for the sake of preserving its many, many surprises. While that makes for a lot of setup and character dynamics to establish, McCulloch’s careful plotting and effective atmospherics pay off, resulting in an intense, rewarding inaugural season.
Set in rural Georgia, the series sees a disparate group of people forced together by a mysterious phenomenon in their surrounding woods. The type that leaves them without electricity, cell phone service, or a way to escape whatever...

On a flight not so long ago, Ella Purnell managed to terrify the woman sat next to her after accidentally giving her a glimpse of the recent viewing history on her laptop.
“It was basically 50 shows about serial killers,” she recalls, speaking over coffee in a café near her flat in East London (which she admits she’s rarely been in due to excessive recent travel). “But specifically female serial killers, because they’re very different from male serial killers.”
As Purnell notes, the concerned neighbor was carrying a baby, which she then “literally moved” away from her.
“So I had to explain. I was like, ‘I’m so sorry, I’m actually researching, it’s part of my job… I promise you, I’m not a monster,'” she recalls. “But I’m not sure how convincing I was.”
The Brit was, thankfully, telling the truth. A year on,...

Amazon and Apple, two Silicon Valley behemoths, are teaming up more closely in the streaming arena.
Later this month, Apple TV+ will be available via Prime Video in the U.S. as an add-on subscription for $9.99 per month, Amazon announced Wednesday. That’s the same price Apple charges for the stand-alone streaming service.
Apple TV+ joins Prime Video’s collection of more than 100 add-on subscription options in the U.S., which include Warner Bros. Discovery’s Max, Paramount Global’s Paramount+, Sony’s Crunchyroll and Amazon-owned MGM+.
The deal to bring Apple TV+ into Prime Video is part of Amazon’s strategy to aggregate as many entertainment options as it can for customers — available on one bill, in one app.
“Prime Video is a first-stop entertainment destination offering a wide selection of premium programming,” Mike Hopkins, SVP and Head of Prime Video and Amazon MGM Studios, said in announcing the pact.
