I like this movie, but I don't know why

This is a slow and subtle film with a touch of quirky comedy. Very similar to Ogigami Naoko's "Megane" (2007).

The story is about father and son taking yearly excursion to a mountain in Gunma, where they change into tracksuits because of colder temperature in the mountain.

All the characters in this movie were very unique, each with their own weird habits. However, nothing much occurred throughout the film. We slowly learn about the two main characters, but much is left unexplained, and we are left to guess their motivations behind their actions by ourselves.

Cinematography in this film is absolutely wonderful. Many beautiful scenes of the mountain, and I'm pretty sure this movie was recorded on film, but there were breathtaking sceneries that almost seemed to be filmed by a HD camera.

I found myself laughing a lot in this subtle comedy, and the strange characters really grew on me. One of those true Japanese-style films.
