Unusual Study of Bereavement
derek-duerden27 January 2022
As one mother's way of handing a miscarriage and its implications, this is perhaps unusual, but is well-handled and mostly well-acted, and very affecting. Worth a look.

Neither of them care about anything when they meet, and they find solace in one another... She needs somebody who won't judge or be keeping tabs on her ("she hasn't cried yet") ...

Needing to be needed.

Not a convincing start for Arnold

Warning: Spoilers
"Milk" is a 10-minute live action short film from Great Britain and it was released in 1998, which means it will soon have its 20th anniversary. The writer and director here is Andrea Arnold, an Oscar winner today and this one here was her very first work, even if she was already way into her 30s. A bit of a late bloomer perhaps. But still she had a pretty strong career in the last 20 years, so good for her. I cannot say I appreciate her rookie project here though. The directing was solid, but the script was weak and unrealistic on quite a few occasions. This is fairly disappointing. It sucks especially because I felt that all the actors did a decent job here with what they were given and they certainly elevated the material. This could have been a pretty good film given the talent that Arnold had at her disposal here. But she did not make the most of it actually. Well, you have to learn, don't you? I don't recommend the watch. Thumbs down.
