Mythbusters meets Duck Dynasty?
jakebrann4 July 2020
I don't know... I wanted to like this series but it just felt too cheesy, too staged and not informative enough. Maybe if it had a title that didn't involved the word "survival" it would have made more sense... like, you better hope if you find yourself in a dangerous situation that you packed all kinds of things that will help you survive, which isn't likely. They talk about products and then give no brand names or info on where to purchase these things. It just felt more like a big joke than it did any survival tactics. The humor also falls flat. They were trying too hard. I was only able to watch 3 episodes and then didn't care anymore.

Commercial for expensive equipment for unlikely situations coupled with bad survival advice.
thesfg-9426528 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
First of all, it's a commercial for a subscription service that sells gimmicky knives and implausible survival equipment that will sit in your garage until it dissolves. Some of the equipment is interesting, and it is fun to see it in action. However, the actual survivalist nature of the show is implausible at best, and dangerous at worst. Just because you can "technically" survive without food for several weeks does not mean that you should. In-fact, going 24 hours without food, like they depict on the show, can drop your blood pressure to a dangerous levels, especially while actively seeking a rescue. They try to shoe-horn in explosions, which have nothing to do with the tasks at hand. There is some helpful survival advice, but not from the hosts, it always comes from an outside guest who they call in, such as the snake bite expert. They have a disclaimer "don't try any of this at home" and I believe that is the best advice given in the entire season, because you will die. Survival is a skill, not a product. Your time viewing this show will actually decrease your chances of surviving an emergency.

Cross between QVC and mythbusters without any science
wert-5219415 July 2020
Immature version of mythbusters. No attempt made to follow any scientific method or design any experiments. The obviously pick their products through the "this looks cool" method of "science".

Funny stuff
mike-kvam18 August 2022
It's like Mythbusters had a spare paycheck to play with, and it used the money for knives and fire. The show is funny, the people are great, and the products are solid. The subscription is totally worth it, the service is unbeatable.

This is so bad, I created an account to warn you.
mcarpenter-338317 July 2020
This show is an infomercial for Battlbox. Is this the future of advertising on Netflix? Ads are why I don't have cable TV!

The talentless cast stumbles through awkward, heavily-scripted scenes. Sometimes there are explosions, which are the high point of the show.

It is unclear if the cast represents real rednecks or an ironic representation of rednecks as imagined by a corporation.

I added two stars for the camera crew, who did their best to capture visually exciting shots.

Making Survival Entertaining
yewpheng7 July 2020
You never get to see survival shows like this. Most of the time its a dude in the woods with a knife. Never do you see someone put products to the test. Like, I didn't think I needed a seatbelt cutter and spring loaded window punch until I watched the big guy struggle to break glass with the hammer. Its cool to see the behind the scenes of a company whose products I subscribe to. Its good to know they test the items before sending them out in mission boxes. Lets face it most of us will never be in a survival situation where we are left alone in the woods, but we're more likely to face car crashes, snakes, assaults, and camping emergencies. I struggle to tread water so learning about the spare air, wrist anti drowning device, and the window punch are now a main stay in my center console. Love this show

Really Funny Southern Humor
PalmBeachG15 February 2023
You need to have a sense of humor to like this Southern Survival review of products show. Having lived in FL before, maybe I appreciate it more than others as it is definitely a "southern" type of humor. There are 3 guys and one woman who review these survival products with their staged scenes of specific types of incidents and disasters - but always with a sense of southern humor. For example, they set up sets of toilets and set them up as Good Ole Boy Corn Hole after setting up the toilets on fire to test some fire extinguisher "balls" that you throw into a fire. (This of course is after eating a pot full of very hot chili and joking about setting the toilets on fire because of it.) So this is just an example but the product reviews are useful, and they are unbiased in reporting the results. Some notable products were the avalanche backpacks that have pull strings for inflatable pillow to bring you to the surface, solar oven to bake on the beach, etc.

"if you're in a fire, inside a structure when a fire happens, get out."
zerothefox30 September 2020
The idea of the show sounds great, testing survival equipment. But boy they sure are the wrong people to do this. Guess I should have known better to expect anything decent going by the title of the show.

Very poor yolo style testing. Try hard humor that's cringe. feels like a long bad youtube advert that was given too much of a budget that skips over details.

terrible advice and ill quote what was said mid way through episode 1 "The most important thing we tell people is, if you're in a fire, inside a structure when a fire happens, get out." You don't say???

Exactly what I thought
wayoflife-900494 July 2020
Thought this show was great. Been a member for a long, long time. If you have seen a box opening, you will know what to expect with a little more comedy and explosions... love the idea of the show and hope they get many more seasons to come. My boys and I couldn't stop watching from episode one to eight. This is an amazing company that prides its self in customer service and products and can't be happier they got this opportunity and can't wait to watch season 2!

Entertaining as a Battlbox Infomercial
jmaurasesq30 June 2022
Currin 1776 is entertaining as always, and there are lots of unnecessary explosions/fire which is a plus. Some of the product review scenarios seem forced, but at the end of the day the show gives you a chance to evaluate some of the new products that are coming on the market and/or will be available in Battlebox missions.

Less then avrage
wivavog12 July 2020
This show could be entertaining i guess. But it feels like netflix just gave them a camera and a check. Not very funny, very forced, lots of low hanging fruit. The "education" is probably the funniest part. Because there's such a clear lack of knowledge across the aboard. I do commend them for making a business out of hanging out and testing amazon products. There's nothing special forming here. I think most people can do without this. Its pretty boring, not informative, tries so hard to be funny. But just comes off unappealing an mildly pathetic. Kind of like a child with a bad joke, but you have to keep laughing. Comparing it to mythbusters is easily the funniest thing associated this show. Could easily be surpassed. I cant see it catching widespread appeal. As even the title limits its audience. The shows content and attitude reinforces this. =) Wish you the best.

Too Much Good Ole Boys, Not Enough Product.
itgirlx4 July 2020
I'm very interested in "survival" products; from home safety, backpacking/camping gear, to zombie prepping, so this show seemed a natural fit. Boy, was I wrong. The hosts of this show spend most of the time screwing around, making macho jokes and very little time with the actual products. I expected some banter, but it goes on for about 80% of the episode. The products are not named or well-described, and purchase or acquisition info is non existent. This "show" is basically an infomercial for "Battle Box." If interested in survival products, you'd do better to search YouTube or watch some customer reviews on Amazon.

Couldn't watch more than half an episode.
spacemen-5655512 September 2021
It seems to be more about the people in the show making it about themselves, than the products they are testing, way too long between products tested.

I feel dumber due to watching the first episode!!!
qbradford-154478 July 2020
These guys sound like their combined IQ is less than 30!!!! Why would I trust their info about safety and survival when I can't even trust that they have even a basic command of the English language????? Some of these guys speak like they didn't even make it past the third grade!!! if you're going to host any kind of show the VERY LEAST you could do is speak intelligibly. You practically need a Redneck decoder ring to understand these people!!! Although, to be fair, Mikki Montgomery actually sounded like she has a good head on her shoulders and knows how to use her gray matter. The guys left much to be desired.

Murica!
KiloKiDitch7 July 2020
Warning: Spoilers
This show is awesome and I binged it in two days. What a cool idea, testing out life-saving equipment in awesome scenarios and finding some really awesome stuff to recommend for their customers. This show includes, fire, explosions, knives, potato guns, hurricane simulations, fire simulations, avalanche simulations, oh and did I mention explosions! Of course you can tell that some of the secondary aspects of the show are staged and there are some parts that seemed like it was their 4th, 5th, or 6th time re-"acting" it but I actually think that added to the show. I love this show and highly recommend it to people who like this stuff. I was a customer of theirs for 2 years and I restarted my subscription because of this show! Their boxes are awesome too!

You will definitely love the show if you:
yuptogun5 September 2021
* agree that the hurricanes and floods are more and more frequent, but still don't want to even mention climate change; * believe you should handle your emergency on your own, "learning" from the demonstrations by random machos and a token girl; * are satisfied with the technical descriptions flashing out on screen for a couple of seconds, as if it is their only option to avoid lawsuits; * don't mind if it is basically an ad; * don't mind if it never challenges your brain; * just want 2-4 explosions per episode guaranteed.

I give 3 out of 10 because I ticked the last two. Geez I miss Mythbusters more after this.

unrealistic testing
seaskysun22 April 2024
The testing they do is completely unrealistic. It's all for camera, but if you take a close look at the test setup, its completely unrealistic. If you're concerned about safety, then have safety professionals standing by, but I'm completely unconvinced by your setup. Sorry, just a mildly entertaining programme when I'm particularly bored. Your escape episode is particularly bad. No windscreen, seat belts so loose, you could simply lift them over your head, who are you trying to kid? There is nothing remotely believable or stressful about your setup. Most cars if they end up in that unfortunate scenario are nothing like your test setup, so I'm sorry, but I think you're all doing it just for the camera..... please dramatically improve. Mildly entertaining programme at best.

The Battlbox team brings you 30 minutes of fast paced action and hilarity each and every episode. You get to see how they test gear that they eventually put out to their subscribers. Great job Battlbox crew!!

trkelly-795896 July 2020
Loved this show. Binged watched the whole lot, I wish there were more episodes! There is plenty of banter between the gang and they have great chemistry on camera. Learnt some new tricks to use out in the wild and will definitely buy some new gear on the Battlbox website. Can't wait for season 2. Steve we love you!!

*****Outstanding!!
suejames-017234 July 2020
This series is like no other! I binged watched all of Season 1! I particularly liked the episode where each of the show hosts shared their fears and then demonstrated products to help with those fears! Check it out. You'll definitely look at things a different way and learn about amazing products you never even knew existed!!
