This episode is loosely based on a game that show-runner Joe Brumm played with his children. In that, the game was called Pinchy, in which they would pretend to be crabs taken home from the beach and would pinch Brumm. Bandit's disdain for the game is directly based on Brumm's as he didn't like playing it. According to a December 2022 interview he'd only play the game for one minute, once a month. The episode was originally envisioned as a direct copy of that game, but the pinching was changed to tickling, as he knew children would imitate this game with their parents and chose not to "inflict this on the wider population".
