New data from Reelgood now reveals that Oddity ranks as the tenth most popular movie on streaming in the U.S. for the week of October 3 9. The movie, which is available to watch on Shudder and AMC+, falls short of titles like Killer Heat (2024), Inside Out 2 (2024), Challengers (2024), and Apartment 7A (2024).
With Halloween approaching, the top 10 list features a number of horror tiles, including one in the top position.

Salem's Lot (2024) has become a streaming hit even though the Stephen King adaptation has only a 45% Rotten Tomatoes score. Directed by Gary Dauberman, the Max exclusive film is the second adaptation of King's 1975 horror novel, chronicling the story of author Ben Mears (Lewis Pullman) as he returns to his hometown and discovers the presence of a blood-thirty vampire. Reviews for Salem's Lot have been mixed from critics since the film's release on October 3, with criticism aimed at the film's lack of scares and surprises.
New data from Reelgood now reveals that Salem's Lot ranks as the second most popular title on streaming overall in the U.S. for the week of October 3 9, beaten only by Nobody Wants This (2024). When looking only at movies on streaming, the King adaptation claims the number one spot. M. Night Shyamalan's Infamous Horror Flop With 18% Rt Score Climbing Streaming Charts 16 Years Later

While it may be one of both the filmmaker and star's worst-reviewed movies in their careers, The Happening is starting to get a second chance at success on streaming. M. Night Shyamalan's 2008 movie starred Mark Wahlberg as high school science teacher Elliot Moore as he and his wife, Alma, race around the Northeastern United States region in the hopes of escaping the mysterious mass suicides affecting the area. Also starring Zooey Deschanel and John Leguizamo, The Happening was widely panned upon its release, holding just an 18% approval rating from critics on Rotten Tomatoes, but was a modest box office success.
Just a couple of weeks after finding a new streaming home on the platform, Shyamalan's The Happening is climbing Hulu's charts. At the time of writing, the 2008 horror movie sits in the No. 3 spot on the streamer's Top 15 Movies Today. The movie is currently sitting behind two new Hulu Originals,...

Sarah Paulson is ready to showcase her comedic skills on the big screen.
The American Horror Story actress was recently asked during BuzzFeed’s “The Puppy Interview” which film genre she would love to star in next.
“I want someone to put me in a fucking comedy. Nobody puts me in a comedy,” she said. “All you want me to do is scream and run from a clown. You don’t understand that I’m like a gentle, nice, charming, funny person.”
Paulson also already had an idea of who she would like her costar to be in a potential comedy. “I’m going to say Cate Blanchett… I’d like to work with her in the horror genre, actually. Also, I would like to do a buddy picture with her, a road comedy. There’s something no one asked Cate Blanchett to do and no one asked me to do either,...

We spoke with young actress Amiah Miller upon the release of her film Hold Your Breath, a period thriller where she plays the daughter of an increasingly troubled mom played by Emmy winner Sarah Paulson. It takes place back in the 1930s as a secluded Oklahoman community battles increasingly hostile dust storms while Paulson's character slowly loses her grip on reality. Miller is no stranger to period projects and will star in the upcoming Yellowstone spinoff The Madison alongside Michelle Pfeiffer.

While some productions are plagued by Covid-19, union disputes and scheduling conflicts, Karrie Crouse and Will Joines had their hands full with “rattlesnakes, lighting strikes, dust storms and locusts” while shooting their Dust Bowl-era horror, “Hold Your Breath.”
“There was one day where we had to stop shooting because an actual dust storm shut our shoot down,” Joines said. “Once the actual dust storm stopped, we all got back on location, cranked up a huge 20-foot fan and shoveled dust in it to make a fake dust storm.”
Luckily Crouse and Joines were spared from nature’s wrath at “Hold Your Breath’s” Los Angeles premiere Oct. 4 at the Harmony Gold Preview House. Sarah Paulson and the rest of the film’s leading cast joined the directing duo on the red carpet.

Sarah Paulson has already successfully fan-casted herself on “The Bear” and now, the Emmy-winning actress has her sights set on “Legally Blonde.”
Paulson said during BuzzFeed’s viral “The Puppy Interview” in the below video that she would want to play the role of Professor Stromwell, as originated by her real-life partner Holland Taylor in the 2001 film. Paulson and Taylor have been together since 2015.

Paulson recently led horror film “Hold Your Breath,” and the actress is waiting to flex her non-thriller chops onscreen.

Dust gets everywhere in director Karrie Crouse and Will Joines’ hard-scrabble horror. It fills the skies, covers the furniture, and chokes the characters’ lungs. Often it clouds their judgement, too. Anyone sensing a metaphor swirling here won’t be disappointed. But those hoping for a satisfying pay-off may well be.
Based on a long-gestating script by Crouse, who also worked on TV’s similarly sand-blasted Westworld, Hold Your Breath can’t be faulted for its ambition. For their feature debut, Crouse and Joines create a convincingly brutal world that their (largely female) characters must endure.
Having worked so hard to convince us of the reality of the characters’ plight, falling back on the usual crazy-woman stereotypes isn’t just disappointing, it’s disastrous.
Sarah Paulson is typically committed as Margaret, a woman on the edge. Her husband is working away, she’s lost a child to scarlet fever, and there...

Edward Scissorhands, Tim Burton's beautiful and dark fairy tale starring Johnny Depp, is finding streaming success after Hulu added it to their library just in time for the spooky season. The 1990 film is getting love from new audiences after Burton appears to have returned to the Hollywood spotlight with major recent successes like Wednesday and Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.
Edward Scissorhands is climbing high into Hulu's Top 15 movies. Today, it falls behind more modern films like Hold Your Breath, Babes and Blood for Dust. Nevertheless, its resurgence during Halloween is not a coincidence. The film, starring Johnny Depp and Winona Ryder as a very unlikely couple, is a modern take on fairy tale tropes in a fantasy world that only Burton could create. It's the perfect Halloween feature.

Warning! This post contains Spoilers for Hold Your Breath.
Sarah Paulson is a brilliant actress, but her most recent movie, Hulu's Hold Your Breath, was a bit of a letdown, particularly following her role in American Horror Story. Hold Your Breath was exclusively released on Hulu on October 3rd, 2024. The horror-thriller is set in 1930s Oklahoma and follows the story of Margaret Bellum (Sarah Paulson) and her two daughters, Rose and Ollie, during a terrible series of deadly dust storms.
The movie also sees the family terrorized by a mysterious being named the Gray Man, although Hold Your Breath's ending intentionally avoids confirming the extent to which the Gray Man was real. It's just as likely that Margaret, who increasingly loses her grip on reality, is hallucinating many of the movie's events. There were many solid performances by Hold Your Breath's cast, Paulson's chief among them. Despite those positives,...

With Tim Burton's recent box-office hit Beetlejuice Beetlejuice dominating theaters, many fans at home are revisiting his and Johnny Depp's first collaboration in Edward Scissorhands. It’s October, officially known as “spooky season,” a term I just realized I’ve seen a lot less this year than in years prior. Maybe it’s a less spooky season than usual? In any case, “spooky season” means the streamers are putting up a lot of original horror movies this week. Max has “‘Salem’s Lot,” the latest adaptation of Stephen King’s vampire classic; Prime Video has “House of Spoils,” a Blumhouse psychological horror thriller starring Ariana DuBose as a Carmy-esque chef who’s either losing her mind or actually haunted; and Hulu has a period horror movie called “Hold Your Breath” starring Sarah Paulson as a mother in Dust Bowl Oklahoma who thinks there are monsters in the dust storms.
But none of those are our top picks this week. That would be “It’s What’s Inside,” a stylish Netflix horror comedy with a “Certified Fresh” rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

The Dust Bowl may be home to more than just natural dangers in Hold Your Breath. The movie hails from writer/co-director Karrie Crouse and co-director Will Joines, a frequently collaborative creative duo who have worked together on a number of shorts and music videos over the years. Beyond their direct pairing, Crouse also found success with her work on HBO's Westworld, having been a staff writer for season 3 of the sci-fi thriller and writing its fifth episode, "Genre", and previously made her feature debut in the writer's chair with Pilgrim Song, starring alongside The Dark and the Wicked's Michael Abbott Jr.

Dust Bowl horror Hold Your Breath is a fantastic case study of paranoia and what the lack of nutrition and sleep can do to a person. The 2024 psychological horror film tells the story of a woman and her two daughters in 1930s Oklahoma. Margaret and her two daughters live by themselves as her husband has gone off to work in a different state. Already, this is quite the horrifying tale for a woman in the 30s. No man in the house, no food because there’s no rain—a nightmare to begin with, but Margaret’s quite self-righteous. She knows exactly what she needs to do to keep her kids safe. The key point to remember here is that Margaret’s already lost a kid to scarlet fever, which means she’s extra careful about her other two daughters. Throughout the film, we see Margaret’s dreams; they haunt her...

Hold Your Breath could have very well been a season of American Horror Story, set around 1930’s Oklahoma and the terrifying dust storms. My major reason for saying this is, of course, Sarah Paulson, who needs no introduction, and spearheads Karrie Crouse and Will Joines’ psychological horror. Paulson is expectedly terrific, as always, and the film—despite borrowing from many things like The Witch to The Babadook to Midnight Mass—holds its ground till the very end. It has a very shocking climax that many of you might not see coming, although it makes total sense. My agenda is to dissect Hold Your Breath in this article.

With another spooky season upon us, it’s Sarah Paulson‘s time to shine in the genre she loves.
After executive producing her first film Hold Your Breath, which landed today on Hulu, the Golden Globe winner opened up about being “in charge” on set and how “exhaustion” helped her tap into her latest role in the psychological thriller.
“I almost felt like I was too busy trying to hold the complete story in my head to allow myself to descend too deeply inside of it,” Paulson tells Deadline. “And I feel like sometimes it’s just an occupational hazard, that reality. I wish I had a real answer of how I shake it because sometimes I don’t think that I do. I think it all just gets into the sort of nooks and crannies of my being and makes a house there, so I’m not always the...

Sarah Paulson has been a mainstay on Ryan Murphy’s American Horror Story anthology series since her recurring role in the first season of the FX show in 2011, retroactively dubbed Murder House.
While promoting her new Hulu thriller Hold Your Breath, Good Morning America’s Robin Roberts asked if she would return to the horror franchise again.
“I think there is a big chance that I will return to American Horror Story,” Paulson said. “I’ve got everything crossed. I would like to do it more than anything. It’s my home. It’s where I started.”
She continued, “I got to play, you know, seven different characters in seven years, which as an actor is the most exciting, thrilling thing, and also allows an audience to be ready for anything you’re going to do because they’re not attached to one thing that you do, specifically. That has...

Hold Your Breath has a lot going for it. There are horror elements that give it an unsettling touch; the dust storms that permeate the film help in that regard. There are hints of the gray man, a figure that comes and goes, slipping through cracks in the door and windows with a threat of possession and fear. And theres a central story of a mothers grief, which pushes her toward an unraveling that puts her daughters in harms way. But all of these elements dont come together cohesively or meaningfully. Worse, parts of the film are confusing and strange.
