Meghan Markle's got a busy holiday ahead of her!
The former Suits star will be spending Christmas with her fiance, Prince Harry, and the royal family, at Queen Elizabeth II's country estate, Sandringham, Et previously reported -- and now we have a breakdown of all the holiday traditions Markle will experience for the first time.
"Firstly, it's important to stress that this is a completely new departure from Christmas with reference to the royal family. Normally, the protocol is pretty strict," royal commentator Richard Fitzwilliams tells Et. "In the past, when Kate Middleton was engaged to William and also when Mike Tindall was engaged to Princess Anne’s daughter, Zara Phillips, they didn’t, as [an] unmarried [couple], spend Christmas with the queen."
"Obviously Meghan’s parents are in the United States, but the main reason [Markle is invited] is clearly that it’s what Harry wished," he continues. "But I wouldn’t be at all surprised if it wasn’t...

Meghan Markle will be introduced to a very important royal tradition when she spends Christmas with the Queen: hunting.
The animal lover is devoted to her rescue pups Bogart and Guy and has been vocal about her love for vegan leather, yet all of the royal family members enjoy the country life — and during the festive season that means picking up a shotgun and taking part in the Boxing Day shoot on Queen Elizabeth’s Sandringham estate.
“The estate lends itself to shooting. It’s a paradise for it,” former royal bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, tells People about the festive partridge shoot.

Prince William and Kate Middleton will host Prince Harry and his new fiancée Meghan Markle over the holidays. Though the official royal celebrations will take place at the queen's Sandringham Estate, William and Kate's home of Anmer Hall, which is just a couple of miles east, will be base camp for the younger generation of royals. From here, Meghan will be introduced to the many festive family traditions as she enjoys her first royal Christmas. According to Us Weekly, the royal celebrations will begin with Christmas Eve spent at the queen's Sandringham House. The whole family will attend the 11 a.m. festive service at St. Mary Magdalene Church on Christmas Day and will sit down to Christmas dinner of roast turkey and all the trimmings. It's also tradition (much like in many British homes) to watch the queen's annual Christmas message at 3 p.m. This year, she's expected to congratulate...

'Jasper Jones', released in March, is the third highest grossing Aussie film this year..
There was a lull in Australian films released theatrically in June so the total grosses for local titles this year have.only ticked up to $42.95 million.
Even so, that is a vast improvement on the paltry 2016 calendar year total of $24.1 million.
No high-profile Aussie title is confirmed to open in the next few months so the 2017 scorecard may not go far beyond $50 million.—.unless there are one or two breakouts or more films are added to the slate.
Umbrella Entertainment is launching Descent into the Maelstrom, a documentary about the Australian band Radio Birdman from brothers Mark and Jonathan Sequeira, on July 20.
Madman is releasing Jeffrey Walker.s comedy Ali.s Wedding in August and Jen Peedom.s documentary Mountain in September, while Transmission has dated Karina Holden.s marine doco Blue for October.

The fragmented multicultural drama from the director of Red Dog and Boxing Day is all sparks and no fire
The Red Dog director Kriv Stenders’ new film is the sort of project you can imagine a public broadcaster happily investing in: a button-pushing multicultural drama set on Australia Day, following three groups of people from varying backgrounds. Revolving around the stories of troubled teenagers, Stenders substitutes booze, barbecues and the Hottest 100 for drug addiction, racially motivated violence and the trafficking of sex workers.
This grim subject matter could suggest a high-flown production in the style of an arthouse indie, but Australia Day is a much pacier affair, with a busy, thumping visual style suggestive of a director fearful of losing the audience’s interest – as if they might change the channel at any time. A little like television, in other words, which is where the film is heading. After Sydney...

.About 84 per cent of Australians go to the cinema at least once a year. We.ve got a very saturated market but a very popular product, and what we need to do is make the cinema experience more attractive so that people come more often, not just on Boxing Day..

From A Hard Day's Night to Magical Mystery Tour, Yellow Submarine and Help!, we revisit the original Beatles films...
Of all the art that the Beatles brought into the world, their cinematic misadventures are probably less fondly remembered than their music. But in addition to 12 studio albums, 13 EPs, and 22 singles, the Fab Four also released five films in their comparatively few years together. These efforts comprised two feature films, a TV movie, a cartoon, and a documentary, all of admittedly inconsistent quality. Looking back now, these films provide a fascinating insight into the phenomenon of Beatlemania.

For Beatles fanatics such as myself, the music alone makes them a joy to watch and re-watch, but as pieces of cinema in their own right there’s plenty to still be enjoyed and appreciated.

Let me be the last to wish you a happy new year. Actually you – and my Weird Scenes Inside The Gold Mind audience – are the first people upon whom I’m bestowing these tidings. I’m writing this on Boxing Day because I’m leaving town for a week. I think I’m going to Chicago, where I shall reflexively ask Barry Crain for Sonic Disruptors pages.
While in the Windy City, I will be meeting up with my ol’ pal and fellow ComicMix columnist John Ostrander, another expatriated Chicagoan. He will be in town along with Mary Mitchell to visit (or annoy, as the case may be) a gaggle of his relatives. We will be doing at least two things together, the first of which is having a profoundly fabulous dinner with also-fellow ComicMix columnist Marc Alan Fishman and the Unshaven Comics crew, and as many wives and children...

Chester Zoo is celebrating more than the holidays. On Boxing Day, its Rothschild’s giraffe Tula gave birth to healthy and adorable calf.
Aside from being a precious addition to the English zoo, this baby is also important for the species. There are only 1,600 Rothchild’s giraffes left in the wild, so each new calf born, whether in captivity or the wild, is vital in the conservation of this elegant animal.
At just a few hours old, the calf, who is currently unnamed, was standing on its own and taking his (or her!) first tentative steps.

I can’t say that the year currently limping toward the exit was bad for us. Not al all. Some unexpected bounty, a great weekend in Canada, an award from a local arts group, not even one tiny heart attack and if any kidney stones were present they didn’t jump up and holler.
No power outages either and no car crashes – though as I type this there are six days before auld lang syne, so maybe I’m being prematurely optimistic.
A few hours ago, our annual Boxing Day lunch with the Pisanis. Some good stuff on the television set. Nothing to frown at in any of that.
Yeah, the year was pretty good for the O’Neils.

Bruce Willis has taken Hollywood by storm, starring in over 60 films and with multiple awards under his belt, including a prestigious Golden Globe; he most definitely is everyone’s favourite hard man. To celebrate the release of his new film, Marauders in cinemas December 26th, we count down our top five Bruce Willis roles.
Die Hard
With over five blockbusters in the franchise and another rumoured in production, there is no doubt that Officer John McClane is one of the ultimate Bruce Willis roles. Starring alongside the late Alan Rickman as the frightfully villainous German terrorist Hans Gruber, NYPD Cop John (Willis) must go to any length to save his wife and the rest of her colleagues after they were taken hostage at their Christmas party at mega corporation Nakatomi. Bruce’s break out role has been widely regarded as the best action film of the 1980s and most definitely his most memorable role.

Helen Mirren stopped by The Graham Norton Show on Wednesday to promote her new movie, Collateral Beauty, with costar Will Smith, and things got pretty real (and pretty funny) very quickly. After the host asked the legendary actress to give the audience and viewers an inspirational Christmas message, Will nonchalantly grabbed Graham's butt. Helen then got situated in front of the Christmas tree, where she held nothing back when it came to calling 2016 what is was: crap. "Hello. At this time of celebration and togetherness, we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by, and I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of sh*t," she said to the camera. "So my advice to you is to drink responsibly and be merry. Have a very happy Christmas, but above all, go see Collateral Beauty, out on Boxing Day." She then ended it with an actual mic drop,...

Helen Mirren is feeling pretty jovial about Christmas this year. While appearing on The Graham Norton Show alongside her Collateral Beauty co-star Will Smith, Mirren was asked by host Graham Norton to give viewers an "inspirational Christmas message" ahead of the holidays. Mirren did as she was requested. "Hello. At this time of celebration and togetherness we have the chance to reflect on the year gone by," she said directly into the camera, "and I think we can all agree that 2016 has been a big pile of s--t. So my advice to you is to drink responsibly and be merry. Have a very happy Christmas, but above all go see Collateral Beauty out on Boxing Day." The iconic actress ended her...

22 December 1975: The Guardian reviews Spielberg’s shark film, a ‘cracking good piece of entertainment’
“Don’t mock it,” someone said to me of Jaws (Plaza, Boxing Day, A). “It’s what the movie business is all about.” And I haven’t the slightest intention of putting down what is in commercial terms the most successful film of all time. It is, in fact, a great relief to find that Steven Spielberg’s epic is such a cracking good piece of entertainment that you don’t have to make excuses for it.

The key to any decent comedy is a solid script and a fine cast. With Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston seething his teeth out in exasperation while co-star James Franco’s hedonistic tech-billionaire makes the moves on his daughter, there’ll be plenty to enjoy in John Hamburg’s Why Him?
We spoken to Franco and Cranston here, and to the director here, and now we’re taking time with three essential members of the Why Him? cast. Megan Mullally is well known for her role in Will & Grace, and here she plays the obliging wife to Cranston’s conservative patriarch. She is thrown into the macho sparring match along with the couple’s daughter and object of the billionaire’s affections, Stephanie (played by Zoey Deutch).
They are joined by the Key player in Comedy Central’s Key & Peele series Keegan-Michael Key who joins the joins as Gustav.

Director John Hamburg has plenty of experience in the generation gap comedy genre. He had a hand in the various Meet the Parents/Fockers trilogy and he brings this to bear on his latest film Why Him? starring Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston and newly minted Alien: Covenant cast member James Franco.
Telling the oft-told Father of the Bride tale with Franco as an internet billionaire whose hedonistic, free-spirited (and very touchy-feely) personality jars with the buttoned-up plaid exterior of his future Father-in-law, played here by Cranston.
There’s a great deal of talent involved here, and though 2016 has not seen many laugh out loud feature length comedies the pairing of Franco and Cranston should be enough to tickle our ribs while the excess on screen unfolds.
James Kleinmann sat down with the director to talk about his new film, which also stars Megan Mullally, Zoey Deutch and Keegan-Michael Key.

It is a truth universally acknowledged that sticking Bryan Cranston in a film is a sure-fire way to make it watchable. This Christmas the Breaking Bad star brings his gritted teeth and barely-concealed rage to John Hamburg’s generation gap/Father of the Bride comedy Why Him? opposite James Franco.
James Kleinmann sat down with the pair to talk about their new film, which also stars Megan Mullally, Zoey Deutch and Keegan-Michael Key. The chemistry between the pair is evident here, with Cranston in particular in a very engaging (i.e. very silly) mood, which is always a joy.
During the interview Franco also confirmed exclusively to us that he has a small role in Ridley Scott’s new Alien film, Alien: Covenant. Though his reaction isn’t one of ebullient joy he gamely talks to us a little on what the film series means for him.

When a successful New York advertising executive suffers a great tragedy, he retreats from life. While his concerned friends try desperately to reconnect with him, he seeks answers from the universe by writing letters to Love, Time and Death. More than five years since the original, the team behind 2011.s Red Dog have reunited for a sequel, Red Dog: True Blue — that.s actually a prequel.
Given the fate of the first film.s lead characters, that.s a canny move, though not one driven by box office, according to producer Nelson Woss. .

Bryan Cranston heads back to comedy for Why Him? Sadly, he shouldn't have.
As the car crash that was 2016 gradually ceases to smoulder, you’ll want to clamber out of the wreckage and enjoy a good-old fashioned escapist comedy on Boxing Day. Oh, mate. It’s not your year.
Why Him? is a Christmas film in the sense that its events take place around Christmas for no real reason, but hey, let’s invite it in on a technicality and offer it an eggnog. And why not: it’s the season of goodwill and it comes bearing gifts. Cranston! Mullally! Franco! A director who co-wrote Zoolander and Meet The Parents! It can’t be all bad.
And let’s be charitable: it’s not all bad; it just misfires a lot, and fails to make much hay out of a strong concept. Cranston’s daughter Stephanie (Zoey Deutch) is dating...

A neglected Preston Sturges Christmas classic is the highlight of a week of grim movies best left until after Boxing Day
Christmas, unbelievably, is almost upon us, and with it an annual playlist of endlessly watched, endlessly renewable films – an entirely personal matter of curation, whether it covers It’s a Wonderful Life, The Shop Around the Corner or The Muppet Christmas Carol. (I, meanwhile, am looking forward to my first year of being able to savour the yuletide melancholy of Todd Haynes’s Carol in my own living room: bring on the jingling bells and the mournfully yearning strings.)
Over at the BFI Player, however, I recently made the acquaintance of a film that deserves as much December ubiquity as any of the above, yet remains oddly neglected in the archives. Blessed with a characteristically brut champagne script by Preston Sturges, Mitchell Leisen’s Remember the Night is special...

Christmastime is here. Presumably you already have chestnuts roasting on an open fire, a turkey and some mistletoe, and your first screaming argument about who’s cooking for who and where. ’Tis the season for such timeless traditions, and along with a collective craving for manifestly ill-judged food combinations and a moratorium on our disapproval of comedy knitwear, classic Christmas movies are now a vital part of the great yuletide experience.
But what precisely is a classic Christmas movie? Timeless vintage offerings like Holiday Inn and Miracle on 34th Street are stuffed from titles to credits with all things Christmassy, yet you’ll also find films like Casablanca and The Great Escape on many festive film lists, which have nothing more to do with Christmas than Cannibal Holocaust.
Even the single greatest ‘Christmas Movie’ of all time, It’s a Wonderful Life has a pretty tenuous connection with the Holiday Season,...

Solid work from Jennifer Aniston and co plus a few good gags isn’t enough to tinsel over the gaps in this formulaic comedy
Although sporadically very funny, this tale of an embattled business going all out on festivities in order to stay afloat is as predictable as Boxing Day indigestion. It’s also a hot mess – the plot disintegrates into a scrum of competing comic egos, all jostling for lines and screen time. Jennifer Aniston, Jason Bateman, Tj Miller and Kate McKinnon are good value. The rest should stick to photocopying their genitals in the stationery cupboard.

We’ve taken a pen to the UK Christmas TV and radio schedules and circled the shows we’re looking forward to. Add yours below!
Amid the cosy repeats, big movies and inescapable cranberry-stuffed cookery shows on TV this month are a few original gems. Reece Shearsmith and Steve Pemberton’s Inside No. 9 festive special The Devil Of Christmas (Tuesday the 27th of December, 10pm, BBC Two) is top of our must-watch list. Hot on its heels is Yonderland’s family friendly Yonder Yuletide (Saturday the 24th of December, 6.30pm, Sky One). Another for families on Sky is the Christmas Day Jasper Fforde adaptation The Last Dragonslayer, while Channel 4 has the non-festive-but-essential-for-fans-of smart-sci-fi Humans series two finale (Sunday the 18th of December, 9pm).

Russ Abbot, Bullseye, Noel Edmonds and a film we all watched in the same room. Christmas TV was more exciting in the 80s...
Cast your mind back to when Christmas Day wasn't about Doctor Who followed by sticking something on Netflix until it was time to go watch the annual fist fight outside the pub.

In the 80s, Christmas was about seeing which fantastic fare the TV had decided to bless us with. Of course, the more prepared among us knew this well in advance, having eagerly pored over the Radio Times/TV Times to check that Jimmy Cricket's Family Laugh 'n' Waz would be shown. There it was – right after Reflections On The Eucharist With The Reverend Paul Leyland.
