T-Minus-6 (#15.17)

Warning: Spoilers
I was pretty impressed with the episode as in all parts where I thought the story will take a way that I will hate it actually went my way.

First I was sure they will make that annoying Neela be right. But luckily she wasn't, I guess now it was because she is more of a main character now and it is her who "learns lessons". And if she would be more right than Carter I would hate it.

Speaking of Carter, so I was wrong, it wasn't chemotherapy he was getting. Something else and I am not sure how bad it is, which makes me embarrassed as I should know it after watching this show for 15 seasons. And they got me here too, when he made his joke on Dr. Banfield, I for a second thought "Oh no please, don't tell me they had this crazy idea", which also made me embarrassed as somebody who watched the show for 15 seasons, I should know it isn't their style.

One thing I am worried they will still make me be right and disappoint me is by making the foster father really a child molester. This would be awful. Such a tired storyline already, and I am not sure why people foster still if everything makes them weird and automatically child abuser. Well hope they prove me wrong.

Even Carter can't help this mess

Warning: Spoilers
Two positives about this episode: 1. Carter 2. Arrested Developments Buster is back!

Norman, the neighborhood Good Samaritan is back in action only this time it's not such an easy fix. Thankfully he has Carter on the case, despite Neela exercising her know it all surgery muscle...wasn't she a quick-e-Mart clerk last season?! Gimme a break with her. There's the airborne ranger (HA!), John Stamos letting Carter know he'll back him up because he's so capable and informing Carter of all the new meds because he's so on the cutting edge. And of course we have the strong black boss Angela Basset, babysitting Carter because as she puts it he's just back to the real world and he should take it easy.

And of course there has to be some socially aware statement to make. This episode it's about the foster parenting situation which the aussie's kid patient's new foster dad is - surprise - a weird, guy who makes her uncomfortable. Oh, he's not? Okay. No biggie. Awful writing, again.

Another wasted opportunity with the series coming to a close. Not nearly enough throwback looks to the show in its hey day. It's one thing to shame the memory of this show with the crap writing, stories and characters. It's another to ignore the past for this junk.

Another Bad Soap Opera Episode
bkkaz14 February 2023
ER's final few seasons seemed to have the Z Team writing it, but given how bad shows like Law and Order: SVU became aroun the same time, perhaps that's what Hollywood considered (and considers) the A Team. But keep in mind quality TV shows like Breaking Bad were on the scene, meaning that it was entirely possible for good writing to still happen. Just not on ER.

It's hard to imagine two worse characters than Sam Taggart and Neela Rasgotra. The first was always written as a self-centered, manipulative, holier-than-thou user and screw up. So, the fact that she continues her annoying course of just being trash make sense. The only thing that doesn't is why the producers of ER felt the need to put her in the show.

But Neela. Come on. She went from brilliant and sensible surgical genius to moody and mopey bed-hopping tramp. How did that happen? Was the point to undo her character? If so, they succeeded.

This is one of those episodes more about the juvenile couplings amongst the staff -- have they never heard of the word "boundaries" before? -- in a hospital that's more like a fraternity house -- are there no policies about people all sleeping with each other and trading partners?

When a drama becomes all about knocking boots, it's time to go. Remember, ER started as a fairly serious attempt to show the daily lives of ER residents and interns. Yes, it's tweaked because it's a TV show, but it was the medicine that came first. The human relationships grew out of that. But these last few seasons of ER assumes a hospital is just a place for throbbing libidos to hook up. They should have cancelled the show two seasons eariler.
