Hyper fast paced LEGO action...
paul_haakonsen9 October 2021
Well, I am familiar with the classic tale of the Monkey King according to Chinese folktales, so of course I sat down with my son to watch this 2020 LEGO take on the legend. And with it being a LEGO movie, I must admit that I didn't even doubt that we would be in for a dud.

And "Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born" is entertaining, it sure is. And it was really refreshing to see a LEGO animated movie in an actual drawn style presentation, and not just being another CGI animated movie. So that was rather uplifting to see.

The storyline told here is easy to follow and it offers contents that is entertaining for children and adults alike. Of course, with it being LEGO, this is mostly aimed at a younger audience. But I was every bit as entertained as my son was.

The animation and art style used in "Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born" is good. Lots of great things taking place on the screen. And the art style was great. It had that classic LEGO thing going on, while also keeping the art style that is seen in the LEGO magazines from the LEGO fan club that my son receives. So that was definitely good.

I will say, though, that this animated movie is fast paced. Very fast paced. There is not a single slow moment throughout the course of the movie, so it is a tongue-in-cheek experience here as you sit back and go on a hyperspeed roller coaster trip in the LEGO universe.

The voice acting in "Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born" was good. And with it being an animated movie, of course having a proper voice cast ensemble is crucial. I wasn't familiar with anyone here, aside from Gwendoline Yeo, but I didn't recognize her voice, just her name.

All in all, then "Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born" is entertaining and enjoyable.

My rating of "Monkie Kid: A Hero Is Born" lands on a six out of ten stars.

BEST LEGO ANIME MOVIE AND SERIES EVER !!!!!!
derekrod6 December 2020
1. It's actually directed by a female director herself, and AMAZINGLING EPIC !

2. The animation and all of the stunts that they put in this anime is great.

3. This should be rated tv-y7 including the series to, since there is no profanity, gore, and sexual harassments.

4. And I'm a fan of Legos to including this movie and series to.

finally, 5. I'd hoe there will be season 2, 3, and 4 and I hope each episode will be 20 min's longer than 10 min's, and I'm already enjoying the series so far.

Based

Based special, plain and simple. The pilot episode of Monkie Kid is about drive, it's about power, they stay hungry, they devour the Yeezys off of the store shelves to get stronger since the rarer the item, the more powerful DBK becomes.

This entire series reeks of review bombing...
Agent_Man4230 May 2023
First up, this is the best pilot I've seen. The animation throws crazy angles, creative expressions, and flawless action at you every 10 seconds. I legitimately don't think I've seen animation this good outside of movies.

And the plot, great introductions to all the characters (unlike say, the Ninjago pilot where its just Kai and Wu), highly unique premise despite the Journey to the west inspiration, and a great establishment of lore.

I simply don't see how anyone with good faith can give this a lower than 8 out of 10, maybe 7 out of 10 if they REALLY REALLY don't vibe with these types of shows.

A Must Watch
puffsodn30 August 2023
This show is amazing if you someone un interested in the animation, the voice acting is jaw dropping especially for the character Macaque (Rip Billy Kametz) There are ten 11 minute episodes to season 1 and the two "movies" are both just 40 minute special episodes. The first one is technically a pilot of sorts which takes place before the first season, it's called Monkie Kid: A Hero is Born. The second 40 minute special is kind of a kick off to season 2, Monkie Kid: Revenge of the Spider Queen.

These are lovable characters with so much heart, you get very attached to them and surprisingly the villians as well. I recommend this show for all ages!

An AMAZING start to an AMAZING Series!
utterlycasey18 September 2023
This special is an epic start to one of the BEST animated shows I've ever seen! The art, acting, story, and character dynamics are the best I have ever seen, and this studio did such a fantastic job with it!

This special is only JUST the start, and it gets better and better with every season! If you want to add something to your watch list, this is it! It is one of the best things I have ever seen, and is such an inspiration for me since I want to go into screenwriting (and production)!

The people behind it are so so so talented in the work they make, and this series is no exception!

I really recommend everyone watch this amazing beginning to an epic tale! (based on an epic tale)!

Wonderful!

Super cool and great! Love the story and the animation! Qi Xiaotian is super relatable to me with his clear anxiety and uncertainty in his future that he covers up with a bright grin. The character relationships are great, even with all the mystery surrounding Sun Wukong's past relationships, and my top favorite has to be the friendship between Qi Xiaotian, Long Xiaojiao, and Red Son (dubbed the Traffic Light Trio). I really really wanna learn more about Chinese mythology thanks to this series! This is more than I expected from something meant to sell toys.

In short, give it a watch! You won't regret it!

(Also buy the LEGOs. They look really cool.)

Some of the most beautiful art in a cartoon ever!
jordi_kitty18 September 2022
If you love art this is definitely one to watch because the animation is so beautiful and fluid that you are bound to get hooked immediately. If you can get over the Lego hands.

For lego characters the facial expressions are amazing, they are incredibly expressive and hilarious.

The jokes are definitely aimed more for a millennial audience and there are plenty of background Easter eggs for anyone looking. So you will definitely want to look some of them up if you're of the younger generation.

There are plenty of lighthearted moments and some darker angsty bits but there is definitely never a dull moment.

Couldn't recommend this show enough, it needs all the love it can get!

Very excellent and well executed introduction.

Warning: Spoilers
I really enjoy how fluid the animation is regarding the fact that the show is based off of legos. That being said it really leaves the opportunity for people to use their creativity on all of the characters.

I was a bit shocked when Monkey King revealed that he was watching MK in the sense of a guardian looking after a child.

I found it very funny when Monkey King didn't want to intervene with Demon Bull King causing havoc in the city. In the sort of sense that he wanted to see if MK was truly up to the job of retrieving the staff back.

Overall I really enjoyed watching. The voice actors did a wonderful job as well as the animators. Wonderful around of applause to all of them!

No Lego show should get so much sakuga!
nbm-3000922 April 2022
While not many people know of this show, it's probably because they don't want to believe so much talented breath taking anime movie style animation is given to a freaking Lego show! But believe it because that's what this show is, sakuga moment, after sakuga moment, after sakuga moment! While the pacing of the show is sadly a bit too fast moving just as intensely as the animation, the characters are still likable and while it's still mostly episodic it's still a fun time when it's able to slow down a bit. So if you want an animation sugar rush and fly into a violent rage about how your favorite anime or tv show doesn't have this level of quality than check it out.
