Great first episode
Candy_Man2221 June 2021
Wow, awesome episode. The two main storylines of Morty and the wine and Rick and Nimbus played out perfectly and flowed together seamlessly. I also liked how they showed a bit of Rick's vulnerability and Morty's Rick side. I can tell this is most likely the idea they're going to explore this season, Rick becoming a little like Morty and Morty becoming a little like Rick, and I'm excited for it. Overall, a great setup for the season and I'm eager for what's next.

Great start to the fifth season
lambo63721 June 2021
Really solid start for the fifth season. I was worried that the writing might start slacking since the show is becoming way more popular and the creators might get over confident like other animated series (*cough* Simpsons, family guy). But this isn't the case. Still the same quality show as when it started.

Great episode. Only reason I gave it 9 instead of 10 is because I don't think it's up there with the very best episodes, and because I think there are even better episodes to come this season.

This episode felt so short! Otherwise, great episode though. Felt like classic Rick & Morty.

Badass Morty

Such a philosophical episode... Seems as if Rick and Morty didn't lose its touch, with the side story and the comedy.

  • Mr. Nimbus.

Classic Rick and Morty

Great episode. This is a good start of season 5, only thing missing is Rick's rant that was in premiere of every season.

Just fantastic/Dune
shakedatjunk21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Maybe not the funniest episode they've ever done it still did have laugh out loud moments and Mr Nimbus is amazing. Great character moment from Rick.

I think it's insane how easy Morty uses all the tech now he's become a competent savage. He literally ruined thousands of generations of a people/family and sent them through a RPG/LOTR phase and like 12 different sci if futuristic ages. The storyline there was great and pretty insane to think about. They also were riffing on Dune.

Jessica became a much better character this episode and what happened to her is just about the craziest thing that can ever happen to a person and her dialogue at the end was great.

I love how Morty was being both Mark Grayson and Omni-Man at the same time. He had to get back to his date but had duties she didn't know about like Mark. Then he portals to a different planet/dimension like Omni-Man and absolutely wrecks. Morty has become even more insane while still being hilariously irresponsible.

The animation was amazing this episode as well. Colors and action were all ridiculous. I hope we get to see more Jessica and Mr Nimbus

9.5/10.

Half good, half weird...
itwperiod21 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The narnia-like plot with all of the time manipulation stuff was cool, and I think it was the highlight of the episode. We've seen some time manipulation before but this episode shows some cool concepts regardless.

The Rick and Nimbus plot was, honestly, just weird. This show has been able to use absurdity to its advantage, in episodes like pickle rick, the wedding squanchers, and stuff like that. This episode just kinda felt over the top on all of that, kinda like the dragon episode.

One half of this episode is really cool, and reminds me of seasons 1 - 3 with its quality and style. The other half is weird and I didn't laugh once at the whole Mr. Nimbus thing (maybe it's just not my sense of humor). So, my opinion of this episode is mixed, and I gave it a 7/10. I liked it, but it could've been better. One of the weaker season premieres I think.

Really funny start to the season. I was expecting the show to go a little down hill this season but it's still at the standards of the first four seasons. I really enjoyed Mortys story this episode it was a really cool idea and was the reason why this episode was so enjoyable

Brilliant start to the season. 8.9/10.

Starting to go

Warning: Spoilers
I miss the times when there wasn't a single moment of this show that was lame or a single joke that didn't land. Now there are many of those instances. In this episode alone, summer saying "let's lick tits" then immediately telling her parents they don't like it because they're "not getting any". After they say they watch porn together, she acts grossed out like they crossed the line, as if she wasn't the one who brought up her parents sex life in the first place. Just a gross, stupid line that shows the writing is going downhill fast. Another example is "I don't see how that's relevant, but we're white" then all the police show up. This has been done so many times it's actually become a cliché. I remember seeing almost that same joke on everybody hates chris over a decade ago, along with many other shows since then. Now it's found its way to a show that was supposed to be above all the clichés. A third example is morty escaping the virtual handcuff situation he's in at the end; he literally just slips out of it by pulling his arms and legs out. That was upsetting because I know at least one writer knew it was a lazy execution, and that the fans would catch it. There are plenty other examples. This show is just not what it used to be.

Great R&M is back, meh on the episode.
FreddyShoop13 July 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It would be hard for a new season of R&M to live up to the long anticipated premier. Sorta like new Star Wars have super high expectations that they fail to meet, but if they were a stand alone bit of entertainment in a vacuum (i.e. Without the rich history to compare against) then it would get more respect.

Anyway, not digging Mr. Nimbus Yes, yes, lots of phallus jokes. Very random, but no back story. The general rule that everyone knows is that a show is only as good as its villain (e.g. Die Hard), but we get no reason to like or fear Mr. Nimbus, or why he's a legit nemesis. In order to not be a contrivance, Rick's enemies have to be special. Remember how great Evil Morty, or eye-patch Morty, or even Cop Morty were?

Nimbus, not so much. The time travel stuff is ok, but they've done better.

Now to go enjoy me a box of Simple Ricks.

Great episode. What happened to clone Beth though? Even though Mr. Nimbus was very close to being annoying, I ended up liking his character - a lot actually.

Starting off season 5 with a bang!
Fallen_from_grace_42421 June 2021
Each season, the expectations for this show are always so high...and they always, always deliver! The perfect combination of hilarious & dark. The introduction of an awesome new character that I hope is brought back and them slowly peppering in more backstory just shows this is going to be another amazing season.

high hopes for the rest of the season
hasty-7105321 June 2021
Honestly the show is as much about Morty as is it about Rick. The only problem is that Morty almost never got solo adventures.(maybe the time remote episode in the last season) but this episode actually did something that i thought was undoable and gave Morty a actually good plotline with a purpose we know how important was to him. The episode in general was amazing and used it's time wisely and effectively. Giving each character time to show him/her self and it had a great sense of humor too. Also it brought forward the story and plot of Rick and his emotional journey which was lost for many episodes.it instantly became one of my favorite episodes of the whole show!

Promising start
reynoldswraptpe22 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I was a strong defender of seasons 3 and 4 - and I still love those seasons - but looking back on them after the premiere of season 5, I kinda understand the criticism now. Season 3 had great continuity and character development. Season 4 had great meta gags and symbolic middle fingers to lore and conspiracy obsessed "fans" who complain endlessly about the show when it isn't about hints at Rick's backstory or Evil Morty. Both those seasons also kinda get lost up the show's own self-important @$$ and forget to just have fun. This episode wasn't crazy deep or revealing, and is honestly one of the weakest premieres so far - at least in terms of the lofty heights this show can reach. But it was the first premiere since "A Rickle In Time" to just be unbridled, goofy FUN. There's just enough heart and nihilism to keep things from feeling completely throwaway (and it will be interesting to see if Jessica remains changed by her experiences as a "Time God", or if she's even still in the show after this) but really, this is just a good time hangout with our favorite characters, except for Summer (mostly). It's the same kinda vibe season 2 started with. I have an unexplainable feeling season 5 will overall pass that high watermark. Rick and Morty is back and feeling inspired to embrace the brilliance of its stupidity in a way it hasn't since 2015. You might think Rick wouldn't understand my willingness to be enticed by the intriguing and disturbing possibilities this could bring, but it turns out he would. Just ask Mr. Nimbus.

Wine Cooler
southdavid24 June 2021
The fifth season of "Rick and Morty" begins in promising fashion, with a smart time bending adventure, mixed with a new parody character and some domestic drama.

A dangerous adventure has two consequences for our heroes. A sea landing puts Rick (Justin Roiland) in contact with his nemesis Mr Nimbus (Dan Harmon) meanwhile, with his life in peril, Morty (Justin Roiland) shoots his shot with Jessica (Kari Wahlgren) who agrees to a date that evening. With Nimbus and Jessica due to come to the house on the same night, Rick ages some wine in a different dimension, where time moves much faster. When Morty goes to fetch the wine he inadvertently starts a chain of events that lead to the creation of a dangerous advanced culture.

It was Morty's time hoping storyline that the was best aspect of this episode, for me. That was a classic "R&M" storyline. The side story with Mr Nimbus, an Aquaman parody, was very strange, but had its moments too. It certainly feels like one of the secondary characters has been fundamentally changed by this episode, in a way that has to play in to the series going forward.

Good start to the season.

So Jessica's a Time Lord now
ericstevenson22 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode starts off not with any real ongoing story from the last season, but it's still pretty awesome! This really had a lot of swearing in it. This episode features Rick and Morty land in the ocean after Morty finally got a date with Jessica. Unfortunately, this awakens Mr. Nimbus, who is apparently Rick's archnemesis. Rick puts wine away in another dimension where time moves faster so it can age and give to Mr. Nimbus at a dinner date. Unfortunately, someone from there goes to the main dimension and his wife is now dead.

This launches a seemingly neverending escalating war where the guy's descendants built a society around killing Morty. I love how Rick doesn't just automatically save the day like he always does. The best joke may have been the one specifically about Narnia. I really did connect to Morty and Jessica, but I knew it wouldn't work out for them in the end. Jerry and Beth also seem to be doing well with their relationship too. It's very creative and has great buildup. ****

Enjoyable episode, but worst premiere yet.
EddyTheMartian00721 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
The Rick and Morty season premieres tend to be some of the better episodes of the show, usually using very creative concepts, dealing with certain parts of the overall storyline, while developing the characters and setting them up for the arcs this season. This premiere seemingly didn't do much of that. It was still enjoyable, but easily the weakest premiere episode in the show. Perhaps I was just extra disappointed because I expected one of the better episodes, but honestly I thought this was one of the weakest episodes in general. I do want to praise the animation for a moment though which was especially good this episode. The colors were very vibrant, and I noticed many stills from the episode looked particularly striking and detailed. I do appreciate how the animation has improved despite this season having less wait than before.

The Nimbus storyline was quite weak. It would've been kind of cool to perhaps see what happened during the off screen adventure in The Ricklantis MixUp, or the repercussions of it, though I appreciated the reference. Rick didn't really do much this episode, which isn't necessarily a problem if the other characters were doing something interesting, but Summer was away, Beth and Jerry were just making their sex positive jokes that got old after the first few times, luckily Morty's storyline carried most of the episode and was interesting enough. The Morty and Jessica date was unexpected, I liked the set up in the beginning, but the culmination was pretty predictable time goddess aside. I hope that's actual set up for a future storyline though. It was pretty cool to have a portal to another dimension where time moves quicker, the initial twist was great with the alien coming to his wife and son he abandoned, it was pretty fun for the most part, but again like other elements in this episode it just got repetitive. This type of plot has been done similarly before. It ended in a way that seemed even lazy for this show with Nimbus inexplicably coming to save them like a Deus Ex Machina (mentioning it as a joke doesn't excuse it), and then essentially resolving everything. This episode in general seemed sloppier like how the wine Morty needed was still fine and under the rubble in their future civilization. Even if Summer came back with the shell and ruined it again, we know Rick won't stay in prison. You know what would've been kind of interesting though? Since in the other dimension a machine seemed to have removed all of Rick's weapons and tech in him, perhaps we could have an entire episode of Rick in prison, without having any of his tech. He'd probably still get out in some way, but I feel like it would be something different and unexpected from this show that can delve into Rick, which I believe this show desperately needs. There do seem to be some interesting teases I hope lead to other storylines, like Rick said that they all have suicide capsules in their teeth, and Morty losses one of his teeth, so perhaps that might be set up for that, which would be cool.

I thought with the beginning it seemed like Rick was finally going to change, but he was basically back to normal right after. Perhaps that's a tease for what's to come because the next episode seems to be more like the season premiere as the promo mentioned clone Beth, so I hope that means it'll be a quality episode. However, to me the show has been getting weaker apart from the first 2 seasons, which are about the same level for me. Season 3 is pretty close to the first 2 seasons as it had some really standout episodes even if it ended quite weakly, but Season 4 was a significant step down for me. Though I'd still consider the show great this episode was not a good start to the season. I was personally hoping for this season to delve a bit deeper into the overall storyline of the show and characters because the show could begin to get stale without major shake ups. The trailers seemed to show a happier Rick, which I hope means we're shaking the show up, delving deeper into the character and giving him an arc for the season, but we'll have to wait and see. I guess Morty seems to be getting more cynical, which has been happening for a while now, but I like he's also much more confident, so I hope this means the show is starting to develop a bit. Overall an enjoyable enough episode, but below average, and extra disappointing considering it's the season premiere. I hope this just happens to be the weakest episode this season and it just gets better from here, but honestly I'm not holding my breath.

Felt like it wanted character development, but there wasn't any. The absurdity felt forced and didn't really elict any laughs. The time dilation maybe could have used more room to breathe.

Great Episode
BobGuy8221 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
I'm a little disappointed that Rick didn't do the premiere speech to Morty like he always does. And it is interesting that Rick is getting Mortier and Morty is getting Ricker continuously since season 4. But i personally don't really like that Rick is getting weaker and weaker. I mean we knew Rick as a smart, strong, selfish character which can do ANYTHING. But in this episode he couldn't do anything, like even his most desperate enemy saved him. But overall great episode, i really liked Morty getting wine scenes which made episode really good and they confirmed that Rick's wife's name is indeed Diane. Another interesting thing is "Kyle". It was so surprising and unexpected. Like we knew Diane from Season 3 Episode 1 but we never heard of a character name Kyle. I hope we can know him better in the later episodes.

The Rick And Morty Experience
birkoterhals27 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
This episode truly shows the newcomers what this show can pull to get you hooked!

Definitely not the funniest episode they've ever made, and i would have liked for the episode to follow up on the ending of last season, however all that didn't really matter because of the creativity they showed in this episode

Mr. Nimbus and Jessica were both great additions to this episode and to see that Rick had a so-called "nemesis" was great for his character. And Jessica's ending opens up a lot of possibilities for future episodes with her being a "time god" all in all a fantastic episode but lacked continuity!
