Sex & Nudity

  • Warning: This content guide contains spoilers.
  • Several passionate kissing scenes.
  • We see a young naked boy in a bath. However, he is crouched in a position so that no private parts are shown.
  • Sex scene #1: The couple is passionately kissing. It is implied that they are half-naked, although we see no nudity. The man is laying on top of the woman as they make-out.
  • A man mentions sleeping with a woman.
  • A couple prepare to have sex. The man leads the woman in front of the bed and they begin to kiss, but the woman stops and they do not continue.
  • Sex scene #2: A married couple have sex. We see the man without his shirt on (the blankets cover the lower half of his body) and the woman has a slip on. They kiss heavily and passionately. The man is laying on top of the woman and is heavily thrusting.
  • Sex scene #3: A woman asks her husband to unbutton the fastenings. He does so, then turns her to face him and pulls her clothing down. His body stands in front of her bare body. In the TV version, the scene cuts and we see them in bed. In the uncut disc version and streaming version, the camera is positioned in a different angle and one of the woman's bare breasts is fully visibly, then the scene cuts. The man is on top and is slowly thrusting. The female is nude but the mans body covers her.

  • Mild flirting.

Violence & Gore

  • Catherine knocks Linton to the ground in rage and begins repeatedly slapping him.
  • A young boy begins to bully another. He slaps him across the face two times, knocking him to the ground the second time.
  • Two boys fight. There are punches, slaps, and kicks. The scene is brief.
  • A dog attacks a woman and tugs on her ankle. A man pounds on the dog to stop him. We see the dog and her ankle briefly with a little blood.
  • A man threatens another with a gun.
  • A man repeatedly bangs his head against a wall. Mild, and little blood is shown.
  • A man grabs another from behind and throws him on a chair. A woman interferes by pushing him off and slapping him.
  • A man whips another. We see the whip hit the back but it is not close up. Later we see the fresh cut and there is blood. Mild.
  • A man pushes a drunk man out of a chair.
  • One man punches another in the face. He retaliates and almost uses a weapon until a woman ends it.
  • A maid slaps her mistress across the face when the mistress begins to act out of control.
  • A man holds a woman at gunpoint but does not threaten to shoot.
  • A man holds another at gunpoint. The second man pushes it away and begins repeatedly slamming the man's head against a table, then the floor. He then strangles him until people stop him. He does not kill him but comes very close to it. It is an intense and emotional scene.
  • At the end, the family finds Heathcliff has committed suicide. He is laying open-eyed on a bed with a gun resting next to his head and blood splattered everywhere.

Profanity

  • Several uses of light profanity (damn and hell). Name calling such as liar, cu-koo, gypsy, and slut. Bastard is used multiple times, but it is used with it's proper meaning. A few exclamations such as "Oh God!" and "By God!"

Alcohol, Drugs & Smoking

  • A man is seen with alcohol after his wife dies.
  • A woman mentions that her brother drinks.
  • People are seen drinking at a party after a wedding.
  • We see men at a bar on several occasions. They are drinking a gambling.
  • People are seen drinking wine during a meal.
  • One man becomes a drunk and is seen with alcohol in every seen after that. In one there are several spilt and broken bottles on a table in front of him.

Frightening & Intense Scenes

  • Refer to the Violence & Gore section.
  • A few slightly intense fights between Catherine and her father.
  • The scenes where Heathcliff and Edgar visit Cathy's grave are emotional.
  • A woman dies during childbirth. We do not see this happen.
  • The scenes where Cathy is dying are extremely emotional. Heathcliff is torn apart and has a very emotional scene when he learns of her death. He goes to see her body in it's coffin which is also emotional.
  • The whole film is about passionate lovers. Their relationship is intense.
