Season Three Review
southdavid7 October 2023
I polished off the third season of this run through of "The Venture Brothers" recently, and it continues to be one of my favourites. It doesn't perhaps have the same number of classic episodes as that second run, but it's the show in full stride now and diving further and further into its own backstories.

Cleared of too much wrongdoing in the 'Showdown at Cremation Creek", The Monarch (Christopher McCulloch) and now Doctor Mrs The Monarch (Doc Hammer) move into Phantom Limbs old mansion and though no longer allowed to arch Doctor Venture (James Urbaniak) immediately start looking for loopholes to allow them to. Venture though has been assigned a new arch enemy, Sargent Hatred (Christopher McCulloch). Brock Samson (Patrick Warburton) starts to question his life and role in the OSI, and whether its' time for something new.

Again, there' s a lot of mythology building that's gone into this run of the show. Three of the episodes contain flashbacks to earlier times in the Ventures' or the OSI's history. Samson's disillusionment, that I suppose was hinted at in previous seasons really comes to the fore here, as he learns that his mission to protect the family was not all it seemed to be. The other storyline sees the Monarch arch Jonas Venture for a while, before seeing a way back to his one true hate. Then the season ends with another dramatic double bill and what, for me, was the most traumatic death in the series.

The animation is really good, the jokes and the plot are well thought out and smart. The character voices are amazing. It's a show all about the double acts and adds another one in this run, with Cardholder and Doe, two grizzled OSI agents who talk like prohibition era lawmen.

It's great stuff and I love it, onwards to season four.
