*full disclosure: an online screener of this film was provided by Tricoast Worldwide via Cloutcom. Director/writer: Russell Friedenberg. Cast: Zane Holtz, Glen Powell, Phil Burke and Rudy Youngblood. Wind Walkers is based on an ancient Native American legend - a wendigo. Mother Nature has created another monster, which is a curse of "the white man." The film offers a weak message on the environment and possibly on the white man's foreign incursions. There is so much white guilt to wade into. As well, the film's pacing is unusually slow and any real conflict is only introduced just past the one hour mark. The remainder of the film is filled full of inane interactions and repetitive dialogue sequences. Some scenes offer nothing, at all. Many scenes, despite the gorgeous cinematography, appear washed out or overly dark. And, the Wind Walkers is not recommended even for the most patient, or masochist of horror fans.

From the films from actor/writer/director Russell Friedenberg that I have seen, it seems – at least to me – like he has a fascination with three things: Native American culture; the human psyche and the personal demons we all have; and the idea of the stranger among us (even if that “stranger” is familiar to us). With Wind Walkers he combines all three subjects in a story that follows group of friends and family as they descend into the Everglades swamplands for their annual hunting trip, only to discover that they are the ones being hunted by a malevolent entity tracking them through the Everglades…

"There’s the idea that they’ve brought back something from a foreign country but the challenge for the viewer is did they bring it back or has it always been here?”
One of the most hotly anticipated films at this year’s Frightfest, Wind Walkers is a tale of indigenous American cultures, centuries old curses, transgressions forgotten and repeated, invasion, infection and the damage done by war. It’s the first venture into horror for writer/director Russell Friedenberg, who took time out from travelling in the run-up to the festival to talk to us about the ideas behind the film and what it took to make it happen.
Russell’s first degree is in history and his father was a historian; it’s clear that an awareness of America’s past has always been important in his life, and he’s long had an interest in indigenous cultures.

A group of friends and family descend into the Everglades swamplands for their annual hunting trip only to discover that they are the ones being hunted. A malevolent entity is tracking them and they begin to realise one of their party may be possessed by something brought home from a tour of duty in the Middle East – a demon of war so horrible and deadly they are unaware of its devilish presence. Or are they facing something even more unspeakable, a legendary Native American curse about to unleash its dreadful legacy of thirsting for colonial revenge by claiming more souls?

Wind Walkers hasnt been too heavily discussed its something of a quiet production. However the brand new trailer (a lengthy and intriguing affair) sparks some interest as the flick doesnt look like your runofthemill offering. It also features Zane Holtz in a lead role which could also prove rewarding. For those unaware Holtz has been portraying Richie Gecko in El Reys television rendition of From Dusk Till Dawn.

Acclaimed director Russell Friedenberg’s latest feature, Wind Walkers, has completed post and is primed for an Autumn 2015 release in both the Us and UK and to celebrate, the producers have released the first stills and a brand-new trailer for the film.
A group of friends and family descend into the swamp lands of the Everglades for their annual hunting trip, only to discover that they are the ones being hunted. A malevolent entity is tracking them and they begin to realise that one of their party, Sean (Zane Holtz), may be possessed by something he has brought home from a tour of duty in the Middle East – a demon of war so horrible and deadly that even he is unaware of its devilish presence.
Or are they facing something even more unspeakable? Is a legendary Native American curse about to unleash its dreadful legacy? Has the mysterious Wind Walker beast,...

Tagline: "A new killer, born of war, riding the wind." A hunting trip goes wrong in Russell Friedenberg's Wind Walkers. This film, which was shot in the Florida Everglades, brings an ancient Native American legend to the screen, in 2015. From director Russell Fridenberg and starring Glen Powell (April Apocalypse) and Zane Holtz (Vampires Suck), Wind Walkers are spirits, who can possess the living. These spirits come to life in the first trailer for the film, found here. For more on the story, this hunting party is under attack. Their lodge is robbed and destroyed. Then, one in their group disappears into the wilderness. More and more from the group disappear, until they return hungry for flesh. Now, the survivors must escape, or face an eternity of rot in the swamps. The first trailer for Wind Walkers is a compelling one. Full of action sequences and exterior shots, the trailer...

One of J.J. Abrams’ pilot projects, Believe, which he’s working on with Alfonso Cuaron, practically has a fully formed cast.
That would be: Delroy Lindo (The Chicago Code, Broken Arrow), Sienna Guillory (Resident Evil series, Love Actually), Jamie Chung (Once Upon A Time, The Man With The Iron Fists), Johnny Sequoyah (name of the week nominee, and a girl, who’s in Ass Backwards and the upcoming Wind Walkers), and Jake McLaughlin (Warrior, Crash, Cloverfield). The project and their roles are described:
The series follows a girl, Bo (Sequoyah), in possession of a great gift/powers, which will come into their own in seven years – and the man, Tate (McLaughlin), who is sprung from prison to protect her from those trying to hunt her down.
Lindo will play Winter, an alleged priest who turns out to be far more than he claims. Chung will play an associate of his...

One of the surprisingly biggest comic book films of the summer was Matthew Vaughn's "X-Men: First Class." The prequel based off the Marvel comics caught everyone's attention from the film's actors, direction and many others things which don't include some of the visual effects, but let's not get into that one. It's safe to say that many people, including myself, fell right back in love with the movie franchise after this latest installment. Who wouldn't? It breathed new life into some of our most beloved mutants, and even in some most movie-goers don't know about. One of the mutants many people don't know about is Riptide, played by Spanish actor Álex González, who's mutant power is to create whirlwinds and can also do so by spinning his body at great speed. Although he fights with the Marauders in the X-Men comics, we saw him standing alongside Sebastian Shaw (played...

Movies about Wendigos are quickly becoming as bountiful as Bigfoot flicks. Every time we turn around, there seems to be another film detailing the exploits of this American Indian spook tale of a flesh-eating creature. The difference here with this latest film? It stars Darth friggin' Vader!
Well, not, Vader proper, but word has come in that star Hayden Christensen (Vanishing on 7st Street, those really bad Star Wars prequels) is set to replace Jesse Bradford in upcoming supernatural thriller The Cold.
Director Daniel Calparsoro (who was once attached to direct Ghost House's Burst 3D, which has since been slated for Neil Marshall) is getting set to spin the tale of what happens when seven friends go on an annual hunting trip and soon realize that the only thing being hunted are themselves. They are terrorized by an unseen beast - but what is stalking them? Is it the cold,...

He's shifting from the cold environ to another. Director Daniel Calparsoro was the first director attached to Ghost House's Burst 3D , a tale set during the winter. Since that didn't work out (Neil Marshall is now taking the helm), Carlparsoro is now focusing his efforts on another chilly thriller called The Cold . Hayden Christensen is circling the lead role. He'll next been seen in Brad Anderson's Vanishing on 7th Street ( trailer ). Set in Idaho, the film follows seven friends who head off into the wilderness to begin their annual hunting trip. Vera Farmiga has signed on to Daniel Calparsoro’s revenge indie Western A Thousand Guns, the movie that’s going to be directed by Spanish director Calparsoro and is written by Russell Friedenberg.
Farmiga seems to be very busy nowadays, since we all had a chance to hear she’s preparing her directorial debut with the adaptation of This Dark World, based on the memoir by Carolyn Briggs. Good for her!
But let’s get back to A Thousand Guns! Not much is known of the plot except that “centers on a preacher’s wife and her journey of revenge” and that the story is actually about a young mother who begins to question the “religious dogma” that she has embraced all of her life.
So, as you see, our lovely Farmiga will play a missionary turned powerful gunslinger in this rogue western that’s set “in a world where...

Survival horror thrillers with sub zero theme seem quite The Thing (sorry couldn’t resist) at the moment, and the trend is set to continue with news that Spanish director Daniel Calparsoro has been hired to helm the upcoming U.S horror The Cold. The movie release isn’t tipped until early 2011, but we’ve already picked up on some promo poster art, cast news (announced so far are Jesse Bradford and Shane West) and a summary of the plotline, based around the Native American legend of the Wendigo. Molly Connors, one of mind behind multi award winning crime thriller ‘Frozen River’ is producing, so it’s all sounding rather intriguing. Short synopsis below, or you can check out a very detailed plot summary from the link. Synopsis: Idaho, USA. Seven friends on an annual hunting trip, soon realise that the only thing being hunted are themselves. As a snow...
