Humour and a beautiful location
sandman-446617 November 2021
Nice relaxing TV. Attractive location and a good yarn. I love the normality of most of the scandi acting, they're not so self-conscious as the brits, or as politically correct in these awful times. Go Denmark 🇩🇰

Looks promising
nickochris3 May 2021
After watching the first two episodes of this new danish Tv2 serie i'm intrigued enough to see more. It feels like a slightly better and upgraded version of the recent danish tv serie 'Sommerdahl'

Two brought together cops man/woman goes undercover in Hvide Sande a danish coastal town were a german surfer was murdered the year before, and the case is still unsolved.

They now have to operate in a town where everyone is suspicious and no one talks.

Love the german/danish collaberation and the always typical danish local humor.

Carsten Bjørnlunds acting is good.

Check it out.

Rather pleasant locality-based series, not conceptual though
BeneCumb3 November 2021
Last decade or so has seen the rise of Scandinavian series where events occur in a smaller area or community, (e.g. Morden i Sandhamn, Sommerdahl) where beautiful local landscape and dense human contacts have a different approach than in cities or international communication, plus enabling less known actors to star.

Hvide Sande is another example of this, where the beauty of Jutland West Coast is revealed and the solving of the crime itself is not the primary reason for the Series. The plot is yet not too smooth, with several cliches, and I can´t say that the leading performers provided wow-performances (at times, it was funnier to watch the dog... :)) But as the motives of the crime itself and the round-up were interesting and I did not guess the wrongdoer, I can easily rate it with 7 points.

PS Such series are apparently meant to boost tourism - not a single rainy day in the Series (as in Sommerdahl)) but those who have lived-visited Denmark, even in summer, know that it is a big exception :)

great series

Thought this was a good series with out of the norm story line. The fun banter between the two and Molly the dog was nice. Really enjoyed it. Hope there is a second series.

Cliche after cliche - Too bad
michael_d_moller14 July 2021
Even as a dane i find it difficult to find many kind words to say about this tv-serie. Me and the wife gave up after 1½ episode.

The characters were unbelievable, and the writing were lazy in my opinion and copypasted from too many american tv-series.

Scenes and undercover "police work" that makes you cringe. After the tenth times my toes curled out of my socks because of poor dialog, we decided to stop the torture.

I like the whole idee about undercover work in a small tightlipped society, but the writing and the clumsy work from the policeofficers were simply too much.

There are way better nordice crime-series out there like "Forbrydelsen" and "Broen" just to mention a couple. Give them a chance and pass on this one (In my opinion!)

Sizzling hot Scandinavian 'crime' series
daniellechner-635-1713461 February 2022
This is not a crime series. This is Romeo and Juliet, located on the sea shore of Denmark. After the classic of all series - Forbrydelsen - new Scandinavian crime series have been produced almost factorywise. Much of these are pretty similar. Highly entertaining, but easily forgotten once you press the 'Next' button. Hvide Sande has all the ingredients of those series: two cops, a young murder victim, and a remote rural region, inhabited by obscure and secretive characters. But Hvide Sande weaves these into a Grand Love Story. Usually, when you watch a crime series, you can't wait to watch the next episode, to unravel the mystery and solve the crime. In Hvide Sande, it's impossible to turn off the screen for quite another reason: it would be like abruptly stopping the most tender of kisses. The dialogues between the two protagonist are on a literary level. And sharp and witty on top. The psychological elaboration of the characters is impressive, making you feel connected to them all the way through the story. This psychological depth characterizes the story as a whole as well. We don't see the usual hardened thugs and creepy psychopaths. Hvide Sande takes us instead to elderly homes, hippie communities, real estate agencies, and university libraries. I read a Danish reviewer here who states that the portrayal of Danish rural life in Hvide Sande is utterly unrealistic. Well, that's a fact. The series unveils a romantic world that even in Jutland never existed. But where we all would love to be, and never would want to leave. Just like the kiss the male protagonist describes. A kiss that never happened. But that made him forget time and space, and that he wanted to never end.

Barely watchable
jandmath-7427527 July 2021
Definitely not the usual quality one has come to expect from a Danish tv-series. As a crime show, it's very poorly written. The plot is weak, and the 'investigation' is almost laughable. Some of the dramatic events and their resolve are extremely illogical and makes the main characters seem pretty stupid. The characters overall are very stereotypical and not at all believable. The show feels like a poor-mans version of the british 'Death in Paradise' without the intentional comic relief.

fascinating crime thriller with humor and beautiful landscape
Streaming-Kati30 December 2023
Once again a really good crime thriller. (clearly from a Danish source) For me, who also like Norwegian crime thrillers very much, a reason to try this series and I was not disappointed. However, this is not a dark and gloomy Nordic crime thriller as you would typically expect. This one is carried with a lightness of touch and shows the local landscape at its best and weather at its best.

A very likeable leading lady with a somewhat grumpy partner played very well by Carsten Bjørnlund and a heart-warming dog. A perfect mix to solve the murder of a surfer on a snow-white, beautiful beach in Denmark. Everything is so beautiful that we immediately wanted to move our vacation to Denmark :-)

There is no shortage of suspense either. The story is multi-layered and unpredictable, so you want to know what happens next at the end of each episode. Plus a little pinch of local Danish humor. A successful mixture.

So it was a bad decision to choose it as a crime thriller before going to sleep, as there was rather little sleep :-)

A recommendation for all Nordic crime thriller fans.

--------------- Conclusion:

Excellent - This makes crime thrillers entertaining.

Not convincing
allanbkchristensen2 June 2021
This series is obviously made to promote Hvide Sande a coastal town with lots of german tourists. That is why Carsten Bjørnlund portrays a german policeman and there is a lot of german dialogues as well.

This is not a typical dark underplayed crime/drama series that we are used to see from the nordic countries. In fact this is the opposite.

The story is not very interesting and not convincing, but the acting is pretty good and the chemistry between the mainactors are good as well.

For me there is to much product placement and a weak story in this series.

Not Nordic Noir
laduqesa25 September 2023
This series required one to leave one's brain at the entrance. Fully awake, this would be impossible to watch as it has so many plot holes, coincidences, fortuitous events, impossibilities.

Added to this was the fact that the murderer was clear from the beginning of episode five and there was very little tension left to keep one watching.

The premiss was a cliché - mismatched couple who dislike each other have to pretend to be husband and wife. Their grubbing around and interrogations of locals were enough to raise suspicions that they weren't what they seemed and they did.

I stuck with it to the bitter end but advise others to see something better if it's available.

Average mystery in a beautiful seaside setting
piaktw10 August 2021
Warning: Spoilers
It isn't as awful as for example the Danish 'The Sommerdahl Murders' set in Heldingør, but not nearly as brilliant as many Danish quality crime series. The most enjoyable part is the evolving relationship between the two main characters. And Molly the dog.

The characters under cover police work isn't very credible. Be prepare to roll your eyes regularly at all the glitches. And the story's predictability. But the actors are decent. And the setting is nice.

However it is very annoying that you don't get any real answers or a proper solution to the case after the first 8 episodes. Season 1? Or is this how it's suppose to end? Seriously...

Generic Hvide Sande
mmuggi18 June 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Hvide Sande prides itself a lot on passing in Hvide Sande, and also reminds the viewer of this on every given occasion. The series is the debut for A. Z Kazinski, who is a pseudonym for Danish crime writers Jacob Weinreich and Anders Rønnow Klarlund, and it can be felt as the series is very generic and without its own DNA.

The series does not manage to know the structure of the police, which makes the series reality-breaking, nor does it really respect the local community as it abuses the language and the gallery of characters.

One good thing that I want to highlight is that after all, they speak German in Germany.

Jimmy Oldenburg is a really good villain, who unfortunately is not exploited. However, he also does not really fit into the series' premise, which is a shame.

Generic series that I accept there has been a season of but do not want to see more.
