Despite the film being in Spanish, Jonathan Gonzales wrote it in English first, his girlfriend then translated it in Spanish. Jonathan then had all the actors personalize their dialogue in Spanish so that it would come out as natural as possible to them & they wouldn't feel so restrained by the script.
Jonathan Gonzales wrote the script with Patricia Montes, Hector Dez, and Veronica Perez-Torres all in mind for the roles as Sayra, Andrés, and Maribel. The last lead role to be cast was Ivan Orozco as Nano.
The casting for Nano proved to be difficult, many local actors declined the role due to the intimacy of certain scenes required for the character of Nano. It wasn't until Jonathan Gonzales met actor Ivan Orozco, who was filming another short film with some colleagues of his, & learned that Ivan's first language was Spanish that he began to consider Ivan for the role of Nano. Jonathan sent Ivan the script & he immediately loved it, calling it "gold." Ivan auditioned and immediately won over Jonathan & got the part.
Despite the film being stylized after the works of Alejandro G. Inarritu, and Alfonso Cuaron's earlier films, the script is completely original. Jonathan Gonzales was adamant about making the film his own story, but also wanted to capture the same spirit & feeling of Inarritu & Cuaron's earlier films.
The film contains many moments that were improvised by the actors & ad lib's they themselves added. All of this was encouraged by Jonathan Gonzales as long as it stayed true to the characters.
