Quotes

  • Captain Christopher Pike : [Pike - in disguise - and an undisguised Spock reveal themselves deliberately]  Take me to your leader.

  • Captain Christopher Pike : Screw General Order 1.

  • Science Officer Spock : As you know, the Vulcans invented first contact.

Captain Christopher Pike : As they never fail to remind us.

  • Captain Christopher Pike : [entering sickbay]  Doc! Please dispense some wisdom!

Dr. M'Benga : Okay... never get the house dressing.

    [laughing, embraces Pike]

  • La'an Noonien-Singh : I had a lot of time to think about it. About why I was the only one to survive. Do you know what I saw on the faces of so many of the people I loved as they died? Before they were slit open and fed on alive or used as breeding sacks? Do you know the last thing they felt?

    Captain Christopher Pike : Surprise.

La'an Noonien-Singh : Yes. Because right up until the last moment, they... couldn't imagine dying.

  • Captain Christopher Pike : Spock... Are you naked?

Science Officer Spock : No, Captain.

T'Pring : No, Chris, he's not. He was about to be.

  • Captain Christopher Pike : [Beams in a room in the middle of a conference]  Hi, sorry to interrupt. I'm Christopher Pike. My world is called Earth. And though it is far from here, my people and yours are very much alike. This is my world today.

[He points at their image screens shows everyone images of Earth society in the 23rd Century]

Captain Christopher Pike : Though we weren't always peaceful. This is earth in the early 21st century before everything went wrong.

[shows them images of Earth in the early 21st century]

Captain Christopher Pike : It was a lot like your world today. Recently I was treated to a glimpse of my future. It was not all I hoped. After all what good is there knowing your future. A friend of mine asked me that recently and didn't understand what he meant. Until now. I've seen my future. Let me show you yours.

[Shows images of humanity's downfall in the form of riots, violent protests and global nuclear holocaust]

Captain Christopher Pike : Our conflict also started with a fight for freedoms. We called it the Second Civil War, then the Eugenics War and finally... just World War 3. This was our last day. The day the Earth we knew ceased to exist. What began as an eruption in one nation ended with the eradication of more than 600,000 species of animal and plants and more than 30% of Earth's population. Global suicide.

[the people outside watching, gasps in the realization that that's were their society is headed]

Captain Christopher Pike : What we gave you is the means to exterminate yourselves. And from the looks of you... you're gonna do it. You'll use competing ideas of liberty to bomb each other to rubble just like we did and then your last day will look just like this.

[shows the aftermath of World War 3]

Captain Christopher Pike : Perhaps somewhere all your ends are written as indelibly as mine. But I chose to believe that your destiny's are still your own. Maybe that's why I'm here. To remind you of the power of possibility. Maybe that's the good in seeing my future. That I might remind you that right up until the very end, life has to be warned gloriously. Because until our last moment, the future is what we make it. So, go to war with each other, or join our Federation of Planets and reach for the stars. The choice is yours.
