Fun ride

Different and entertaining, funny fast paced series. This is how your life could be, if you don't care about anything or anyone - adventurous and partylike.

Zany and thoroughly entertaining true-crime mini-series from Sweden
paul-allaer11 May 2022
As Episode 1 of "Clark" (2022 release from Sweden); 6 episodes of about 55 min each) opens, it is "Trollhattan 1947" as a Swedish woman is about to give birth, but only when the baby decides it's ready to come out! "My first jailbreak", comments the Clark Olofsson character in the voice-over. It is the beginning of a wild ride. After a quick brush on his youth, we go to 1965, when he was 16-17 and gets into trouble for stealing from the Swedish Prime Minister's summer house. No, really! At this point we are less than 15 minutes into Episode 1.

Couple of comments: this is the latest from Swedish director Jonas Akerland, best known for his many music videos (which has won him 3 Grammys). Here he takes a look at what is being billed as Sweden's first "celebrity gangster", and whose bank robberies led to the term "Stockholm Syndrome". This is anything but your ordinary true-crime mini-series. In fact, with clever editing and by approaching this with irreverence, Akerland, tongue firmly in cheek, delivers a zany and thoroughly entertaining mini-series. The best episodes are the early ones, when we are fully submersed in the 1960s. It felt at times like Pink Panther-meets-Austin Powers, but much zippier. (Be sure to check out the many, many cars from that era. Just fabulous.) Bill Skarsgard (as Clark) is seemingly very much enjoying himself with this series. And why not.

"Clark" premiered last week on Netflix, releasing all 6 episodes at once. If you are in the mood for a true crime mini-series that is anything but ordinary, I'd readily suggest you check this out, and draw your own conclusion.

Crazy silly humor
ercfunk-445-95004613 May 2022
I feel like this show is one you either love or hate. It's funny, goofy, and completely crazy. You'll know pretty quickly if it's a right fit for you or not.

Bill Skarsgård plus Jonas Åkerlund = magic
mariarammstein5 May 2022
Amazing, fast, funny, harsh, hilarious at times, dry humor, bombastic, black humor, you name it, they checked all the boxes. Binge-worthy !

Based on a true character but not a thing you must know. Cinematographic masterpiece, Bill Skarsgård obviously had fun making this role his own.

I won't go into the story, but I highly recommend it.

Awesome!!

Best and most entertaining series I have seen in years!! Bill Skarsgård is brilliant, and editing sublime!

Soundtrack is amazing, too - by Swedish prog metal mastermind Mikael Åkerfeldt from Opeth (cameo as prison inmate to Clark).

Highly recommended, way to go Sweden!!! 👍👍

New and funny show from Sweden
lovemichaeljordan5 May 2022
Clark Olofsson's crazy story. How much is true is hard to say. However, it is a pity that director Jonas Åkerlund felt compelled to change history to make better TV. What's the point of making a series about Olofsson if you still intend to invent half of the events? Whether the story is true or not, the series is still entertaining.

Good special effects and editing. Very fun series and editing one of the reasons. The actors are also good and fun.

A bit of Swedish pride with a Guy Ritchie feel
roaldth5 July 2022
Clark is a fun show with a dark undertone that comes up more and more towards the end. It has the same buildup as the wolf of Wall Street where you're dragged into the fun world of a criminal with a lot of charisma and no compassion for anyone but himself. The cast is stellar, Bill Skarsgård (It) holds your attention through the show, the straight grounded detective, played by Villhelm Blomgren (Midsommar), is mostly the butt of the joke in most scenes he's in and is seen as incompetent, but he works as someone who's generally just Clark's consciousness.

The show is pretty well paced, with some sequences slowing things down at times, but then it speeds right back on with montages of things happening all the time. The series' director is Jonas Åkerlund, Bathory drummer/cofounder, and director of music videos and movies. I saw Lords of Chaos and was a little worried it would disappoint, but the style from that movie put here worked wonders, it had a certain Guy Ritchie feel to it.

All in all, this was just a lot of rambling, but the series is good. There's a lot of style here, it clearly shows, but the lack of substance through the show is often felt yet it fits this show quite well. It's Swedish TV-show about a real-life Swedish gangster, made by an internationally critically acclaimed Swedish director and actors, scored by a Swedish prog legend, Mikael Åkerfeldt, cofounder and mastermind of Opeth. Doesn't get anymore Swedish than this.

refreshing to see so much Swedish talent together! Bill skarsgard shines in everything he does!
gabrielcamposri6 May 2022
How refreshing it is to watch a series with an entirely swedish cast!!!

Bill skarsgard is a great actor!

It's a shame that the writers added a lot of non-canonical things to the series... olaf's history is rich enough, I found it unnecessary to invection so many things.... the cast is good, Bill's acting is WONDERFUL, the cinematography is beautiful!

Takes some getting used to, but quite enjoyable!
Yvie8113 May 2022
It took me about 2 to 3 episodes to really get into the flow and to appreciate the style of filming. It's a bit 'slapstick-ish' every now and then and it shows very clearly that the director has mostly directed videoclips (the fast pacing, sometimes 40 shots in one minute and so on). However once you get used to the way of filming, the humour and just go with the flow I think it's quite enjoyable! Bill Skarsgård (and all the other actors) seem(s) to have much fun in filming this and it really shows. Everytime I see Bill he just reminds me of a mixture between his older brother Alexander and...well the insane face he could pull while playing Pennywise the clown lol!

Seeing 2 actors from the movie Midsommar did snap me out of it for a moment or 2. Not because those actors aren't any good or anything, but that movie just stil haunts me :-s.

A fantastic ride
For once a show that's has zero wokeness and no other agenda than to entertain you. And it does - in spades. A "true" story in the same style as "Trainspotting", telling the story of Swedens most notorious bank robber, womaniser, and freedom lover.

The music, cars, clothes, hair styles and general feeling of the 60s and 70s come together in a wonderful way by the actors, actresses, director, and production.

So, welcome aboard, sit down, and enjoy the ride.

Groundhog day?
331Sam24 June 2022
The movie starts nicely. Glorifying a crook and sex scenes are not a problem. The problem it trying to watch 6 episodes that look like I'm watching something in a loop: sex, crime, prison... and then again sex, crime, prison... and so on.

Bill skarsgard is great!!! the series is good, despite adding unnecessary things! love the swedish cast!
hugoviniciius8 May 2022
Bill skarsgard is a great actor!!!!! The series itself is not perfect, but it is good and well written, too bad the writers added unnecessary things to the series Olaf had a lot to explore, it wasn't necessary to invent so many things great acting, good cinematography, wonderful cast, and a touch of acid humor I hope netflix invests in more swedish original series!

Good entertaining comedy
dougdemelo7 May 2022
A serie that is a mixture of a friendly and clever criminal and a pathetic unprepared Swedish police. Therefore, so the history had to be told as a comedy.

Weird

Boy howdy this was not what I expected. Still I enjoyed it. I have no problem recommending it as rather bizarre, funny and probably not at all factually accurate. I watched it in Swedish with English subtitles (which seemed quite good).

I could almost see it twice!
mwangifn3 June 2022
I started seeing it in English not knowing it's originally Swedish. I speak a little Swedish so i went for the original obviously and boy I was blown! I laughed all the way to the end and once done i tried to see it in again in English, still entertaining!

For those who think there was too much invented events, the series starts by a disclaimer,' the truth and the lies of Clark Olofsson'. So like Clark would say," Skit på dig!"

Enjoyable
gallagherkellie13 August 2022
This was really good! Fast paced, quirky, funny and crazy. What a wild ride. It's not meant to be taken seriously and it's not glorifying a criminal like others have said. If anything it shows us just how deluded and stupid the guy was/is and makes you dislike him. Bill did such a good job!! The acting was great, he's so charismatic.

Brilliant fast paced comedy series. Bill is a star.
benjilundback7 May 2022
The editing and directing is brilliant, fast paced and very similar to directors like Tarantino and Edgar Wright. The fast cutting and great acting from Skarsgård makes this series very enjoyable to watch. The story is based on true events, which makes this possible to watch without cringing. And yes, not everything might be true and some might be exaggerated, but it has to be when it's being made into a comedy series like this. Great series.

A Bit Long

Warning: Spoilers
I mostly enjoyed this series but I found 6 hours of essentially the same thing over and over again a bit much.

Clark robbing a bank, lying to his current partner, going on the run with the aid of a hapless friend, getting caught and going to jail - rinse and repeat.

And he was idolised a bit much in this series. Eventually he was labelled properly at the end of the last episode. But up until then many viewers would use this as an instruction manual.

Not worth
asma_alasmari7 May 2022
Warning: Spoilers
Boring and most of the scenes are about sex and its ability to exploit women.

I rated it 6 for the sake of shooting and the diligence of the photographers, and not for the way the story was told or the way it was directed and produced.

They could have told the story in a more professional way than the repetitive sex scenes that covered the entirety of the content; If the series had told the story in a true and action-oriented way, it would have been much better.

Would have rated 7 but......
jwpicton1 August 2022
It's a well made series.

The problem I have is that the makers paint a portrait of a happy go lucky guy who's just having fun.

He's not, he's a criminal who brings mayhem and destruction to everyone who comes close to him.

The other crying shame is that the makers are probably just responding to what the viewers want.

Crime is fascinating, but this series lacks perspective.

What a brilliant performance by Bill. Omg...the team hits the ball out of the park and how. What a show what a performance. This is what is called treatment in 2022z one must watch it and also promote it. What an absolutely stunning product. I just wish we can have more of this and yeah let the world celebrate. I just cannot imagine the hard work which has gone into creating the show ..... I bow to the creators and the team behind. A very well made and very well crafted show.

I don't know of I've said this yet, but Bill Skarsgård is one of the Greatest actors out there. Just hilarious, he has the ability to play so many different characters, and it's no doubt that he will get even bigger, not just for 'IT', but from something bigger, I just know it. 🇸🇪
