Here’s the official synopsis for Totally Killer:

A Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals panel has reversed a lower court’s ruling in an ongoing legal battle between Paramount Pictures and the American Federation of Musicians that could have far-reaching implications for the overseas outsourcing of film scores.
In reversing a ruling by U.S. District Court Judge Dolly Gee (read the decision here), the three-judge appellate panel ruled unanimously that Gee had erred in granting the studio’s motion for summary judgment. At issue is whether Paramount produced the 2017 film Same Kind of Different as Me, or merely served as its distributor, and therefore had no obligation to honor the union’s basic agreement to hire its members to work on the film, which was shot in Mississippi but was scored in Slovakia.
“Paramount contends that it was only a ‘distributor’ of Skodam (Same Kind of Different as Me). A jury may agree,” wrote Judge A. Wallace...

The Thai cave rescue will be the subject of not one, but two competing movies.
“Now You See Me 2” director Jon M. Chu and Ivanhoe Pictures are teaming up on a movie about the rescue operation a day after Pure Flix Entertainment announced it was seeking the movie rights to the mission.
Chu last partnered with Ivanhoe in directing the upcoming romantic comedy “Crazy Rich Asians.” Ivanhoe, an Sk Global company, is currently in talks with the most senior officials in Thailand, both on provincial and national levels, about the rescue project. The company is also currently in talks with multiple studios that have shown interest in this project.
Chu signaled that he was working on the project on Wednesday with a tweet, which appeared to slam Pure Flix’s efforts. “I refuse to let Hollywood #whitewashout the Thai Cave rescue story! No way. Not on our watch,” he wrote.

The Thai cave rescue operation will likely soon get the movie treatment.
Pure Flix Entertainment is seeking the movie rights about the mission to rescue a dozen boys and their soccer coach who were trapped deep within a labyrinth.
“I could not be more excited; this story has meant so much to me as I followed it,” Pure Flix managing partner Michael Scott said on Tuesday at the scene of the flooded cave. “To see all that bravery in the cave and then to get all the divers out has been such a touching event.”

Playing a movie legend like Judy Garland on the big screen is a pretty colossal task, and that pressure falls on none other than Renée Zellweger in the upcoming drama “Judy.” The film, directed by “Richard III” Tony nominee and Olivier Award winner Rupert Goold, is a biopic of sorts of that focuses on Garland during her final concert performances in London.
The film’s official synopsis reads: “Winter 1968 and showbiz legend Judy Garland arrives in Swinging London to perform in a sell-out run at The Talk of the Town. It is 30 years since she shot to global stardom in ‘The Wizard of Oz,’ but if her voice has weakened, its dramatic intensity has only grown. As she prepares for the show, battles with management, charms musicians, and reminisces with friends and adoring fans, her wit and warmth shine through.”
“Judy” is easily Zellweger’s highest profile role in years.

As expected, Tyler Perry's Boo 2! A Madea Halloween topped the weekend box office becoming the seventh of eight Madea films to open over $20 million. Meanwhile, it was rough going for the weekend's four other new wide releases as Geostorm, Only the Brave and The Snowman essentially bombed while Pure Flix's Same Kind of Different as Me failed to meet the low end of expectations after strong group sales on opening day. Overall, the top twelve generated just $81.3 million, over $30 million less than the same weekend last year as October is currently pacing ~13% behind last year. With an estimated $21.65 million, Boo 2! finished atop the weekend box office while falling nearly $7 million short of the original's opening one year ago. The film did receive an "A-" CinemaScore from opening day audiences, just a notch below the original Boo!'s "A" and it will be interesting to see what kind of run Boo 2! can leg out.

Evangelical Christian filmmaking is having a moment. After the surprise box office success of “God’s Not Dead,” the dam broke and the product has flowed freely, more or less divided into two content streams: insular, badly-made, confirmation-bias movies for the faithful (which, somewhat ironically, are often explicitly created to function as tools for evangelization), and less pointed stories of kindness, forgiveness, and supernatural miracles that feature movie stars more relevant than Kevin Sorbo. “Same Kind of Different as Me,” based on a true story, is the latter, and, graded on the competency curve many of these films flatly fail to.

With an estimated $26.5 million, Happy Death Day topped the weekend box office, outperforming the opening weekend for The Visit, which went on to gross $65.2 million in 2015. Based on averages for Blumhouse titles debuting over $20 million, it seems reasonable to expect Happy Death Day to also push toward a $60 million run domestically, especially with Halloween still around the corner. The film scored a "B" CinemaScore from opening day audiences which broke down 54% female vs.

Different indeed! Renée Zellweger sports a brunette do in her latest film, Same Kind of Different As Me, based on Ron Hall, Denver Moore and Lynn Vincent’s bestselling memoir of the same name.

"Amazing how far a little tender lovin' care can go." Paramount and PureFlix have debuted another new official trailer for the heartfelt drama Same Kind of Different as Me, from director Michael Carney. This was originally scheduled to open in February, but was delayed seven months and is now being released in October, if anyone still wants to see it. Greg Kinnear stars as a family man who befriends a homeless man, played by Djimon Hounsou, and changes his life through a bit of kindness and friendship. The film also stars Renée Zellweger in one of her other major roles (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) after her hiatus, along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This doesn't look any better than it did when we posted the first trailer last year, but perhaps these a few good performances in this worth appreciating. Here's the second trailer (+ poster...

The trailer for Same Kind Of Different As Me can really just be boiled down to this one exchange between a well-to-do sainty wife (Renée Zellweger) and her kindhearted but cynical husband (Greg Kinnear) about 90 seconds in:
Sw: It’s pretty sexy what you did today.
Kbch: Hanging out with a homeless guy?
Sw: How was it?
Kbch: Actually, it was kind of amazing.
Sure, the film by first-time feature director Michael Carney also stars Djimon Hounsou as a troubled, angry “modern-day slave” the couple befriends at a soup kitchen, and Jon Voight as a conservative caricature (himself, essentially). But the real message of this trailer is that the two middle-class white people at its center have a lot to pat themselves on the back for. They willingly became friends with a black person. And a poor one at that! Lest anyone think this is just more Hollywood mawkishness ...

"You're not a bad man, and I'm glad we're friends." Paramount has debuted the trailer for a drama called Same Kind of Different as Me, adapted from the memoirs of Denver Moore, Ron Hall & Lynn Vincent, about the lives of three people bound together by fate and friendship. The film stars Renée Zellweger in her first major role (aside from Bridget Jones's Baby) in years, Greg Kinnear, and Djimon Hounsou; along with Jon Voight, Olivia Holt, Ty Parker and others. This looks like an emotional, heartfelt story of friends and family, but some of it looks pretty bland and melodramatic. They're also dumping this during the Oscar season meaning it's not that great, but at least Djimon Hounsou looks exceptional. Give it a watch. Here's the first official trailer for Michael Carney's Same Kind of Different as Me, direct from YouTube: A modern-day slave, an international art dealer, and...
