Alan L'Yle stars in this fairly ambitious takeoff on a classic 1981 Alberto Sordi historical comedy directed by Mario Monicelli. Unfortunately the original and this version are little-known in America, never having been released here.
I finally caught this Luca Damiano movie in a French-dubbed version; it plays quite well in that format as L'Yle is French, and his presence makes it resemble many a Gallic boulevard comedy starring the wonderful Pierre Mondy who L'Yle physically resembles. The actor also resembles Robin Williams, incidentally.
But the story, told in vignettes by L'Yle's character to a Cardinal, is very Italian, and loaded with sex scenes, including group sex. A very young Ramon Nomar pops up in several of them.
The ladies are earthy, and other than French star Karen Lancaume, don't look like conventional porn talent, a plus.
